Bills-Raiders Game- for those going
Larry Playfair replied to SF Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last year at Bills/Raiders, SF Fan and I snuck in a bunch of labatts, but we didnt drink one of them. When we got to our seats, we handed them out to all the raider fans around us as peace offerings...and we were good to go the rest of the game. Free beer = friends. -
I didnt at first, but now agree with the decision to play holcomb...until the playoffs are no longer a possibility. Given the records in our division, this probably means all season. Next year do we let them battle it out in camp?

Just posted this in another , but.... From Peter King's column: 7. I think I could listen to Peyton Manning talk about quarterbacking for a long time. Manning on whether a rookie quarterback should play right away or soak up rookie knowledge and sit: "I say play, play, play, play, play, play. That is what I did. The sooner you play, the sooner you taste the live bullets on the field. You get to see what the blitz is like and you know where your receiver is going to be. You can only learn so much on a chalk board. I wish Eli could have played early. The sooner you play, the sooner you get used to the speed of the game. My rookie year, I got more and more comfortable every single week. That's really what it's all about.'' http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...qb.week6/4.html

Ransom observations on the game
Larry Playfair replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe that having our regular O-line together again today (it hasnt been since week 1 vs the texans) makes a huge difference for whoever is playing QB. JP looked pretty good behind that line in week 1, and Holcomb looked OK behind it today. I guess we will see how this plays out. Will Oaktown be fired up, or will they just be demoralized and pack it in b/c there are just about out of the playoffs in week 7? -
At what point do we HAVE to play JP?
Larry Playfair replied to nick in* england's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"If it'll put everybody at ease, I'm going to start Kelly next week against the Raiders," Mularkey said. http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/gamecenter/r...0051016_NYJ@BUF -
In a sprint, I believe i'm faster than Gray, so when we are running like little bills cheerleaders from the oaktown thugs with knives, he will get caught, and i will be on the bus with a cold labatts.

To everyone concerned with naming a QB
Larry Playfair replied to todd's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
well rt now, we only have 1 QB - kelly holcomb - because JP is not, yet, a NFL caliber QB. -
Gandy is not a guard. his biggest problem at atckle is inside bull rushes. He would get killed at G.

Not great...bledsoe was still getting pummeled. -

Gandy cant handle an inside rush at tackle against DE/OLB, he'd be in the backfield with a tackle or nose bull rushing him. the guy is not a guard, but i do think he has done an acceptable job at tackle. I'd plug in Duke at C. Keep Vill at Guard. Keep Mike at tackle (we are in a rock and hard place - b/c if he renegotiates his K, we will likely have to extend. If not, someone would grab him in a minute.) Need a new starting guard and tackle though....but that is nothing new...been going on for about 7 years now. -
Dont know if this has been posted but
Larry Playfair replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
why is he on the block? -
I agree completely. Without playing, he wont progress as much, and I'd rather take our lumps now, then next year. With our D playing the way they are, we are not a contender anyway.

amen!!! Anyone who thought that JP would be an all-pro this season, was drinking the 1billsdrive koolaid too heavily. http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8927130

The Thing Wrong with this Team
Larry Playfair replied to Buckeye Eric's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The o line is sub standard, especially in passing situations. But everything that is happening with the O plays into that. When your QB cant complete a pass, we usually end up in 3rd and long. Then they pin their ears back. When we dont use screens and quick outs, nothing is making the d lineman stop from pinning their ears back. When our TE's are non existent in the passing game, there is nothing to stop blitzing LB's from pinning their ears back. Its starts with the o-line, but snowballs quickly. -
Do we have any TE's on the roster?
Larry Playfair replied to Fan in San Diego's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
the TE are in blocking..although you wouldnt know it from the pressure on JP. -
Why isn't Jim Kelly on the Coaching staff?
Larry Playfair replied to Garranimal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://eod.liquidviewer.com/wgr-od/wgr/20050926_jimkelly.wma The fans need to stay until the end when its close and suport this team. We were only down by a TD. That frustrated him because he knows what great fans we are. -
This Spikes injury is just killing me
Larry Playfair replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every team in the afc east except Miami lost a very important player this weekend. The Bflo story in the news says his lower leg was bothering him last week. You cant be that huge and expect your body's tendons, etc to hold up while you run around like a rabid dog. i love the guy and hope he comes back with a vengence. -
Interesting thought. Eli Manning - JPL?
Larry Playfair replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
there is a HUGE learning curve for an nfl QB, and JP is going through it. Who else besides Big Ben ever had a good first year? its the extreme exception, the rule is you struggle mightily until the game slows down for you. anyone who thought differently is smoking some sweet wacky tabacccy. the kid wil be good, but it will take time, experience, and lots of mistakes. -
INT, slip and fall on 4th and inches, Fumble
Larry Playfair replied to taterhill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Did you guys see Eli Mannig last night? He looked vastly improved in his second year. Fact: There is a STEEP learning curve for NFL QB'S, and we are going to have to live through JP's. Maybe this year isnt our year. But I still feel confident this kid can play, but he will have to learn how to play, he cannot be just put in there, and expected to succeed from the start. Besides Rothlis.... who does that? No one. We must be patient. -
saw ucla v oklahoma last week at the rose bowl - OK's RB - Adrian Peterson - is even better IMO. The kid reminded me of when Vick was at VT, and he was like a men among boys. Its noticeable among the gifted ones, they are on a different level.
