The problem is that if Michigan loses to northwestern in november, their title hopes are shot. But if that same michigan team loses to that same northwestern team in september, all is forgotten by the time november rolls around and michigan is back atop the polls. What sense does that make? Not to mention the discrepancies among the polls, like a ohio st team losing to a #1 USC team and dropping spots, while some big name teams lose last week, yet only drop 6-7 spots. How exactly does previous performance tell us how good a team currently is?

The rescue, nee bail out plan, revision 2

So if i got this right, the Bill was turned down on monday. To subsequently pass the bill, instead of re-working it, we present the same bill with bribes for reps to switch their "no" votes to "yes"? -
On a side note, congrats to Lee Evans for being the first Bills 1st round draft pick to sign a 2nd contract with the team since Eric Moulds.

Just "won" an authentic throwback Whitner jersey

The Whitner bandwagon was very lonely for a while. -
The country is best served with the white house and congress being controlled by opposite parties. Then they actually have to work to get things done, instead of passing whatever little whim the controlling party feels like. I actually hope Palin doesn't plan to run for high level office in DC, because that would severely diminish her chances of posing for playboy.

The official Biden/Palin debate thread
Ramius replied to EC-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
My old man used to give me the same look Biden was giving her, the clenched teeth forced smile. It was usually when i did something stupid with other people around and was followed with a barely audible, "i aughtta punch the sh-- outta you for doing/saying that." I have a feeling Biden was suppressing similar feelings. -

Biden's botox was horribly bad. But if gave him a cool/freaky joker-like appearance when he raised eyebrows. Someone needs to tell him that when you raise your brows, your forehead should naturally wrinkle. As for the rest of the debate, everything's been said already in this thread. Palin scared me with the VP/power comment. Biden look like there were a few times that he just wanted to reach over and smack her. I'd say both of them probably performed as expected. Palin is obviously in waaaay over her head. I wanted to ask Biden what he fundamentally thinks about the fundamental problems facing the fundamental voters in this fundamental election. For me, the best part was their exchanges on voting and the sub-prime mortgage crisis; Palin: Obama voted against bill X 12 times Biden: yeah well McCain voted against it 67 times Palin: yeah, well Obama voted against it 239 times Biden well, i just checked and McCain voted against it 1,682 times I was waiting for one of them to say "yeah well your guy voted against it infinity times," with the response of, "yeah, your guy voted against it infinity times infinity times." -

Remember: you can drink her pretty, but you can't drink her skinny. -
If "every game was like a playoff game" then a loss would eliminate said team from title contention, when in fact, it doesn't. Just because teams need to win doesn't make every game "like a playoff game" That is one of the most asinine arguments against a playoff. Tell me, in the other sports, such as NCAA basketball, is the regular season meaningless because they have a playoff?

as opposed to the ridiculously conservative fear mongers we've had in office the past 8 years? Woohoo, it was a ton of fun to have the moral police in the white house to tell us what we can and cant do because of their own personal beliefs? So i suppose if we had a jewish president, it would be ok if he demanded that every american follow jewish tradition and custom? It was also a ton of fun to watch someone use 9/11 as an excuse or reason for anything and everything. Ummm, Mr W, why do you need to invade the privacy of americans? "Ummm, uhhh, 9/11! terrorists!" When it all comes down to it, W successfully bumblefuct this country forwards and backwards. There is no possible way Obama can make things worse. There is only one way this mess could possibly get worse, and that would be to re-elect W to a 3rd term. You complain about taxing the rich and government assistance, but to me, we are going to get a lot further by having the waitress down the street get some sort of healthcare subsidy (or the like) so she can improve her quality of her life and can better raise her kid(s) as opposed to making sure Joe CEO makes all 20 million instead of a measley 19. No one is saying just give out free handouts to anyone who wants one, thats a road to nowhere. People shoudl still have to work for their money and earn it. But in a lot of cases, a little bit can go a long way. You guys are talking about saving for retirement. Well, if the waitress gets a small healthcare subsidy, then thats wage money she could potentially set aside for her retirement, just as you guys would like.

Kick ass signing. For those that choose to whine about the money, Evans would have easily gotten 10-12 mil per season on the open market, no questions asked. His stats are similar to fitz, and thats what a lot of these contracts are based on, especially for skill players like WRs. Even if the Bills slightly overpaid for him, i'd rather have a slightly overpaid Lee Evans on the roster than lee evans somewhere else because we didnt want to pony up the cash. Next up: Peters and Jackson.

McCain's pick of Palin was like the raiders taking Janikowski on the 1st back in 2000.

We've gotten through the past 8 years of the W debacle. Obama can't possibly be worse. Its like the guy hired to fill in for Matt Millen in detroit. No matter how hard you try, its going to be almost impossible to be worse than the guy before you.

Thats pretty dead on. No team is standing out, and no team is without a major weakness or 2. Instead of subjecting the rest of the country to 2 early january blowouts, perhaps they can just schedule the ACC champ to play the Big Least champ in their BCS bowl.
-
Scheduling only OOC home games against 1-AA opponents? Sounds an awful lot like the current SEC today. By giving more credence to the conference games on the schedule, a team would not have to worry about losing a big time game against an out of conference opponent. A team like Texas could play USC, Ohio St, and Georgia as their OOC games, lose all 3, and they still win the Big 12 to make the 1-A playoffs. By awarding the conference title winners a playoff spot, winning all of the conference games would still matter, so your asinine theory of "every game is like a playoff game" would still hold water. It would make the season simpler. Play who you wish in the OOC games, and then win your conference. As for the spots, you give 6 to the BCS conferences, and maybe give a 7th to the best non-BCS school. For the final playoff spot, i dont know what to do exactly. Perhaps use the same BCS system, just eliminate any outsides polls from being included. Sure there would be fights, like there are in college basketball. But teams have a lot less to stand on when you can tell them, "you should have won your conference," as opposed to "well, ummm, we know you are unbeaten, but you ummm should have been ranked higher by the polls in the preseason," like Auburn in 2003. As for your every game is a playoff arguement, it holds no water. You lose and you aren't out, because other teams will lose and let you back in. I dont see how you can support as ass backwards system that rewards/punishes teams for not who they lost to, but when they lost. UF lost to ole miss, but they have all the chances in the world to climb back into the title hunt. But, had UF lost to ole miss in november instead of september, their title hopes would be all but dead. How does that make any sense? As for the money, hat is all that matters. The BCS teams have a strangle hold on the title game, ensuring that 2 of them will always be playing for the title in any given year, thereby maximizing their revenues. It might not be a conscious effort to keep the little school down, but it is a conscious effort to keep their own pockets lined over a fair and just way to determine a winner. Take Boise St a few years back. Everyone in the world would have loved to see them advance and see if they could take out the next team in a playoff. Maybe they continue their run and win the national title. Would have been fun to watch. But, Nope. The BCS conferences don't want the little school anywhere near the top. So they try to placate the small school with a BCS bowl game and some cash, but no real opportunity. And if you are so concerned with the small schools making it, then expand it to a 16 team playoff and give all 11 conference winners a seed. They the top 5 BCS winners can enjoy an easy first round game against the lower schools.

Hamdan / Edwards article on front page
Ramius replied to Cugalabanza's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not to rain on the JP-hate parade, but its fairly common for the 3rd QB to almost act as a coach, and do a lot of in-game analysis, getting the polaroids, breaking down what the D did on a given play and helping the starter out with alternative options of what to do on a given play. But, go ahead and continue on about how JP is sulking on the bench or on the phone with jeff gillooly trying to set up a deal where he kerrigans trents knee. -
I'm shocked at the sheer numbers of cards fans in that thread. I didnt know that many of them even existed. There must have been at least 7 or 8 of them.

can you give me the break down of scoring? How many points does one get for: robbery, murder, gang activities, failure to pay child support, etc.

I would pay for a PPV of an unscripted, unedited Palin vs W debate.

The problem with the pro bowl is that while some of our players may be playing at a pro-bowl level currently, they dont have the required name recognition to make the pro bowl. Case in point with Whitner as he's been phenomenal this season so far, but needs to beat out the bigger name guys like reed, polamalu, sanders, etc.

Would that tax rate be cyclical? Or just a flat tax. Period.

Any official word on Boldin's status for Sunday???
Ramius replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
big hits and injuries are going to happen, its a violent game. I dont mind seeing a DB tatoo a WR coming over the middle. But honestly, watch the replay. Eric Smith had his head down and was trying to hit boldin with the crown of the helmet. Accidental helmet-to-helmet hits happen, but this was cut and dry. He led with the helmet and was appropriately dealt with. -
Its getting painful to try and watch her answer questions. As was said above, if you played the sound bytes without showing the video, i'd have a very difficult time determining which clip was really from Palin and which was from the SNL skit.
