Miami to release CB Bobby McCain.

Miami has cut two defensive captains this offseason, McCain and Van Noy. It's a bit of an odd move for a young coach of a young team. -
RD 5, pick 17 (161): Tommy Doyle, OT (Miami, OH)

In a normal year Trey Smith would've gone higher. He's got a medical situation and teams are at a peculiar information disadvantage heading into this draft relative to other years. The Chiefs satisfied themselves that they could deal with the medicals, good for them and it may work out. I understand the Bills' reluctance. -
For years the Bills have treated the draft like a hole-filling exercise and it has never worked out. Ever. The strategy this year was simple: BPA at premium positions. You seem to be complaining that they didn't reach for a lower-level cornerback or center instead of a higher-rated pass rusher or tackle prospect. That kind of approach is what has demonstratively failed for this franchise for decades. If the worst thing that comes out of the last two drafts is that they end up with too many good young d-line prospects in a couple of years, that would be an amazing problem to have.

They trust their coaches, their culture, and their player development program. Previous Bills' regimes have squandered raw, athletic prospects because of a terrible development environment. Fans simplistically look at draft picks that didn't pan out and assume the problem was scouting - but sometimes it's a failure of player development, not selection. The Bills finally have a structure in place that helps athletes reach their full potential. It's refreshing.

RD 6, pick 19 (203): Marquez Stevenson, WR (Houston)

That is one thing you do see with him on tape - he’s a body-catcher and that’s probably why - and why he fell to round 6. -

Talk to us about Basham. I see a Tasmanian devil who will cause all kinds of chaos. But he’s older and athletically limited. What do you like? -

Amazing that he falls to Round 6 and a guy like Toney goes at 20. -
Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment

I don’t see how anyone can say we’re the same team now that we’ve added two seriously talented lively young thoroughbreds to our d line. That was the missing link last year. For one thing I expect about 5-10 more forced fumbles this season which by itself can add a win or three to your record. -
Bills 2021 Draft - Overall Assessment

Best draft of my lifetime. They had a clear, sane strategy that makes perfect sense in today’s NFL where (i) you’ve got a franchise QB about to take up a big chunk of the cap; (ii) you need depth at premium positions (everyone does); and (iii) you did sober self-scouting to realize you weren’t affecting the passing game enough to beat your biggest obstacle to the Lombardi. Super impressed with a well-executed PLAN. This draft was the product of a clear strategic plan and I’ve literally been waiting decades to say that about this team’s draft.- 403 replies
