  1. Isn't Baal on the Democratic ticket somewhere in one of the west coast States?
  2. Quite so. Your observation has been applied to some good past flicks that for a few words felt necessary for some reason ,or some gratuitious flesh, hurt them at the box office. I wish I could recall a specific title, but I do recall hearing about such several times.
  3. A fact-finding tour to review problems of their people, paid for by a rum producer, is altruistic. Don't you think that an honorable, noble, all-expense-paid junket to such a nice vacation spot is a good use of taxpayer money?
  4. It's my understanding that they added 110 billion more in pork to buy votes for their re-election and feather their nests, in the bill passed a few hours ago. Can anyone confirm this additional 110B ?
  5. I bet the Puerto Rican rum producers are p-o'd. They only got a measly 190 million. And the strong connection of rum propping up Fannie/Ginnie Mae, hedge funds, 0% down paper that folks gleefuly flocked to, to pay off with their part-time job, cannot be overstated.
  6. That, or Talley was a devotee of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.
  7. But...we had these: http://www.hktdc.com/sourcing/company_prod...2&locale=en
  8. The Jeff Blake School of Passing?
  9. That's right. And I can't help feeling that if more people watched Pres. Franklin Roosevelt on television in 1929, the world would be a better place today.
  10. This should rankle them some more... The CBS Cincy affiliate, WKRC, switched from IND at HOU to TEN at BAL yesterday: http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/2008-05-CBS1.html I don't know if the switch was because of the tendency to air AFC North games here, or if it's worthy of a conspiracy theory.
  11. No. But if you want a degree in chemistry, you nut up and take it. I was a medium noise in a biz that manufactured dialkyldithiophosphate compounds for a while. Primary alcohols reacted with phosphorus pentasulfide under heavy heat in a 12 ton Rx vessel while the sealed reactants cooked with a 100 lb pressure of N2 gas for blanketing, then hundreds of gallons of chilled water washing over the reactor vessel per minute when the Rx pressure dropped - wasn't that special? The sold product was used as the anti-wear, anti-oxiditation additive for lubricating and hydraulic fluids. Ubiquitous. Every lubricant needs it. One of the products was flat-out fascinating. It was psuedoplastic; shear-thickening. After the P2SO5/alcohol Rx, that intermediary went over for admixture with MnO2. Much heat produced. We sold the process by-product NaSH to the leather tanning crowd, and occasionally, some free acid product to the rubber vulcanization biz. That stuff was bad news. See Sarin... Long before I showed up at this place, there was an explosion that coated several workers with P2S5 powder. You know what happened to them. The Plant Manager at the time drank himself to death within a year. Have you considered a career in the exciting field of dimethyl mercury research?
  12. Nothing, personally. And I continue to recommend audiology as the new, growing job field. I figure after 30 years' worth of non-stop noise, that beat-down of hearing faculities, will result in a huge cash crop for the treatment folks.. Do ya think I-Pods blaring tunes stuck into the earholes morning till night, or 400 watt+ car stereos, home theaters with folks rocking on these floor-level chairs looking like a victim of a sad mental illness, grooving to 6 or so, screaming speakers...won't have an effect?
  13. Well, if you were taking organic chem - not a featherweight subject of study - you certainly should have known beforehand about benzene's health effects. There is a switchplate beside a fume hood, ganged next to the light switch, that activates the updraft - that's why they are called fume hoods. Pretty easy to figure out, and then turn it on yourselves? Something here doesn't connect properly...
  14. Bogus? - free benzene"..."musty" smell"? Benzene is an aromatic organic chemical - its' smell is delicious... In college chem labs way back then, we'd clean our glassware with it, followed by acetone to dry. What a hit.
  15. Happy B'Day, O Scrivener!
  16. NYS HS football is not like that in OH, TX, FL, PA and so on - common knowledge - so I'm happy to hear that they are nicely ranked.
  17. Nor do I. Ifill is a fair person IMO, as the McCain camp noted. Perhaps she might have mentioned her writings - but no big deal to me. The oft-vilified Bill O'Reilly could do the job as well - these things are pretty scripted in the first place, IMO.
  18. I also thought Mars Attacks! and Galaxy Quest were good efforts.
  19. Mike Shanahan chimes in... ..."Like Kiffin, who was jettisoned by the Raiders this week, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was fired by Al Davis four games into the 1989 season. "I was a little disappointed, to be honest with you. When you take a look at it, I was there 582 days. Lane Kiffin was there 616 days. So, what it really means is that Al Davis liked Lane more than he liked me," Shanahan joked Wednesday. "I really don't think it's fair. I won three more games, yet he got 34 more days of work.""... http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...0387/1066/SPT02
  20. Go for it. That Oliver Stone - he's the best! I didn't realize initially, that this American Carol is from the same fellow that brought us Airplane! and Naked Gun. I always appreciate a good spoof or send-up. Did you ever see Thank You For Smoking. ?
  21. Stick one on a Kodiak, and report back.
  22. There your go again with your shop-worn, favorite n-word, Tenny, just because one of your fellow comrades makes another foolish attempt at prior restraint.
  23. Well - wasn't the preview a hoot?
  24. Ooooh. Fahrenheit 911 forever!, eh?
