Just talked to a former player from the SB years
HT02 replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm quite serious, it's pretty well known the Bills did some very serious partying prior to the first two Super Bowl losses. It's been documented by the press that Parcells didn't let his guys out while the Bills were having a blast during Super Bowl week. Lots of whispers about Kelly being hung over during the Redskin loss and let's not forget about Thomas losing his helmet. The teams were very good but could have been better. My comment was that I can't imagine Parcells or Belichick meeting with the players individually to see how much they would give. They would find out on the practice field and during games. As far as being only concerned about how they performed on the field that couldn't be further from the truth. If you read any stories by their current and former players you would get a far different opinion. Haven't you heard of the "Patriot Way"? Belichcik runs a very tight ship. Gronkowski hasn't done anything "bad" he's a fun loving kid but he hasn't been in trouble or mouthed off in the press. Hernandez is the only Patriot Incan think of during Belichicks time there that has been in trouble. You rock the boat under him and you are gone. -
NFL Exec's on each team's weakness

I'd take Flacco ahead of Newton, Cousins, Stafford and maybe Rivers that would put him at 9 or 10. -
I'd say QB then coach

Nate Peterman Love .. anyone vs. 2018 QB draft??
HT02 replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the idea of getting as many quality guys in here until we find the right guy. If Peterman takes over and has a great year I would still draft a QB just in case. I wouldn't trade the house to get him unless its Darnold (who I think will be a superstar) but I would use a high pick to get an insurance policy. -
I'd rather have a QB on the development squad. Take a shot maybe get lucky with a young QB

NFL Exec's on each team's weakness
HT02 replied to BuffaloHokie13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills do have some talent in the short passing game (Matthews, Jones and Clay) so teams can't stack the box, but the problem is our starting QB is better at the vertical game than he his short crossing routes. -

Flacco deserves his money, he is a top 10 QB and that is something, ask any Bills fan. -
Makes sense, which would also mean a development guy rather than a vet like Yates. Yep

Agreed

Greg Garbriel: On What the Bills Are Trying To Do
HT02 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for sharing the article, I understand his points but I don't think he provided much new information. I know why the mores were made, in most cases McDermott and Beane said it themselves. I just disagree with some of them. As an example, he reasons about Watkins 1) being hurt too often and 2) too expensive to sign. Yes he has been hurt often but he seemed to be 100% coming into camp. In my option he has too much talent to give up on so soon. As far as being too expensive to sign, you get what you pay for. They could have picked up his option year and kept his cost down. If stayed healthy and had a great year he would be expensive, because he would be worth it. You get what you pay for. -
Too bad about Rambo I was cheer for him to make the team.

As things have played out on the QB front so far it looks as though Peterman has passed Yates as the number two do you think the Bills should stick with Yates as the number 3? Reasons to "stay the course": He's a young veteran who knows his role and can help Peterman learn the game. He's cheap He wouldn't be the worst QB in the league if pressed into service (but I'm not impressed with his track record and he hasn't instilled a great deal of confidence based on his performance as a Bill so far) Reasons to change: Good opportunity to bring in someone with a higher ceiling when the cuts come down or even a younger vet on the street (True they could be a disaster if pressed into service but if we aren't making the playoffs or winning a super bowl with Yates either) Look for a more successful back-up after Saturday I am not a big fan of Yates so I'd make a change but thought I would throw it out there for discussion.

While I certainly respect the opinions of former players it remains just that, his opinion. Doesn't make it right or a fact. The glory day Bills played under Marv who ran a pretty loose ship. That "treat them like men" approach also has its drawbacks and there are a lot of people (including me) who think that if Marv had been a little more disciplined the Bills may have actually won one of those four Super Bowls. To look at it another way, do you think either of the "Bills" Belichick or Parcells would have done what that player suggested? How about Jimmy Johnson? Lots of ways to win, I am giving McDermott and Co. the benefit of the doubt for now. -
Promises or no promises McDermott and Beane have worked pretty hard in their career to have their reputation destroyed by sinking a team so badly they had to move. I can't imagine another team willing to hire those guys after that. That would be a HUGE conspiracy and if the other owners were really that aligned to get Pegula out or to move the team there would be easier ways to do it.
-
Why are you attacking the guy? If you disagree say so. If you think its too outlandish to comment on ignore it. We're all Bills fans here lets treat each other with respect. Its not news or a statement of fact the OP is just putting a thought out there.
-
Thats a pretty detailed conspiracy theory, I can't imagine that either McDermott or Beane would sacrifice their career reputations to carry this "Major League" tank plot out. Nothing's impossible but this seems unlikely.

Kyle Williams - 2nd missed practice Personal Reasons
HT02 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't blame him if he did and i wouldn't be surprised -
Dareus is an immature self-absorbed young man, any comparison of him to Watkins is a huge stretch if not a complete non-sequitur.
-
Dareus, Kouandjio, EJ, John Miller, Glenn (huge contract), overpaying for Watkins....
-
Not only that I think we should lock him up to a long-term deal 250MM for 5 years.
-
I understand the need to clean up Whaley's mess and I agree 100% about EJ but disagree with you about are that we "can't afford to tag" Watkins. Its not like the team is overloaded with expensive players (Dareus and Glenn are big numbers that can't likely be moved but Taylor's $(9MM this year and 18MM next year) and Kyle Williams 8,3MM likely won't be on the books next year and McCoy is getting pretty close to the area where RB's lose their value so I would sacrifice his $ to keep Watkins). I think the Darby trade was awful too, he showed he can play.
-
I'm with you I understand all those points and I appreciate that they may be stockpiling draft picks to move up and take a QB next year but I think the Bills are a less talented team without Watkins and Darby.

Ragland traded to KC for 4th round 2019 pick
HT02 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gee if I were only as smart and football knowledgeable as you. If you can understand that a player can lose value I'm sure you can understand that they can also gain value by playing well after fully recovering from an injury. My objection is selling a smart, skilled player like Ragland when his value is at its lowest. Learn how to exchange opinions without being obnoxious. -
Jim Kelly vs Dan Marino: Better QB?
HT02 replied to ultimatebeing17's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love Jim but its not even close; Marino is a much better QB
