  1. Where is the no one wants him thing coming from? DT are in demand all over the league. There are not enough good ones and the draft every year does not produce that many. He would have a market he was an UFA.
  2. Do you actually believe Sean McDermott did not want to keep his 3 technique Defensive tackle? That is usually the most important position on the line. They made a move with ford to make sure Oliver can play his 3T position. There is zero percent chance the head coach/defensive coordinator did not want to extend him.
  3. sounds like its actually 15.75 million making him the 16th highest paid interior defensive lineman. Are there 15 better 3 technique Defensive tackles in the league? The bills have no dt signed for next year except Oliver. Its unreasonable to think you would be able to sign 2 or 3 above average DT's who are free agents and draft 2 more in one offseason. Its going to be hard enough with oliver still here. also it sounds like he may have an opt out after the 3rd year which is an incentive for the player and maybe why he signed the extension right now.
  4. Well if you study the good teams, they develop and sign their own. Not everyone is a superstar or all pro player. DT is a tricky position in the nfl and I imagine compared to who will be available in the draft next year and in free agency they liked the player enough to keep him here. This is not a contract that will stop the bills from being active in free agency nor will it cost them players on the roster they want to keep long term.
  5. Ever think that maybe that was put out there for a reason during a contract negotiation?
  6. Well that is certainly a debate. I will wait and see how this defense looks when healthy and everyone is playing. I imagine he can have a very good season if the secondary stays healthy and miller is back by october and playing at his normal level.
  7. Good teams who want to stay good, Draft, Develop and then sign their own players. This is the goal of every organization. I imagine this will help get cap space for this season because 1.4 m is not going to work.
  8. I would imagine they are going to do just that. The way injuries happen in camp and then during the season you have to have around 5 million available. It just seems like extremely poor planning to not have that much. The bills were/are also in a struggle to get a new facility built. Owners are more than happy to spend and go along with the teams plans when it is going to net them a facility that will increase their wealth by the billions. Once the stadium is built the teams value is going to skyrocket.
  9. Keyshawn did but Glenn didn't. Glenn had a great 05 after missing most of the 04 season with an injury. He was good in 06 also before never playing again.
  10. yes I know the bills and the team. Geez. you have your head in the sand if you think this is a team that can line up and run the ball and be physical. The good teams can line up and run anytime and are physical in the running game specifically in short yardage situations. The bills have created a situation this year where they may be able to do that now with the additions. It will be a huge difference and it will help allen in all kinds of ways. Owens signing in philly it did help them. They were stuck in the championship game for 3 years and the organization refused to address the wr position. They were a top defensive team in all of jim johnsons time and they had an excellent offensive line and running game. They did not have a diggs on their roster already. Adding owens to their offense with that running game created mismatches all over. and then they lost to a more physical team in the superbowl and owens blamed mcnabb and did pushups in his driveway for the media while he was supposed to be at practice......then a few years later when his game slipped in 08 he blamed romo for the teams faults in Dallas. The bills have one of the best WR in the league, one of the best qb's and what looks like an improved running game/O-line and tight end with all kinds of potential.
  11. That is why I said traditional running game. The ypc comes a lot from allen's amazing abilities. I want to see them be able to line up on first down and run out of an 11 set forcing to teams to adjust later in the game to it. Not scrambles or reverses etc. Straight running. If they can do that it sets up lots of 3rd down short yardage situations where the team would have three options, running with a back, going to the big tight end or a wr or allen running it. Teams do not fear and certainly did not fear the bills running last year in that situation. Now they feared allen but that is not the same thing. yea dropping touchdowns is not good and it sucked when that happened last year. There are a few games over the last 3 years they have lost which they should not have. I did not downplay brown those are your words. I am simply stating the facts. He did not lead to a championship. The eagles did also not have a number 1 wr at his level the way the bills already do. They made just as impactful additions in reddick, bradberry, CJ Gardner johnson and drafting jordan davis. They were just excellent up front on both sides of the ball. That allowed them to play the game the way they wanted to and dictate the tone of the game each and every week. Again I said my peace on toney. He is not the same level of player nor was he expensive. He made a big punt return yes but he is always injured and wasn't the reason the chiefs did anything. They improved their offensive line and allowed mahomes to have time to play the game. Their defense always makes timely plays. Will hopkins get them over the hump? In a perfect situation where all the personalities can handle the expectations, the players can handle sharing the spotlight and the ball and keeping trouble out of the locker room when the team loses close games, then sure. That is the perfect situation though and it never works out that way for anyone sans a few teams across sports in history. To me no matter if hopkins signs or not the team is going to get over the hump by being more physical up front (AKA running the ball), having their star defensive players healthy and playing well when the playoffs start and just having some good old fashioned luck. I think they have improved the O-Line and I really like the backs they have and think the Running game is going to be different and better this year. In the end they will win if allen is clean in the pocket and they can run the ball and score in multiple ways in the redzone. Having the guys they were missing on defense available will be as big a pickup as any.
  12. I am well aware of what decade it is and where the nfl is at. Until I see proof that adding veteran star wr is the key move in winning championships I am going to continue to be skeptical. I do not care what era of football you are talking about its almost always about the quarterback and the offensive and defensive lines. Buffalo has one of the best wr in the league in Diggs. I just don't see signing hopkins as the thing that puts them over the top. Like I said before in another post though, he has the skillset that the bills do not have. Big Bodied, great hands, tough catch guy with a huge radius. He can make all the amazing plays and if you put the ball on him or near him he is catching it. So if they do sign him and he and diggs can be comfortable with each player getting different amounts of targets each week and share the spotlight it could be the leagues most dangerous duo. It just seems to me that the offseason hype that comes with this move never actually materializes into on field results. Time and time again big time wr have moved and it just fizzles out or comes up just short like owens in philly and moss in new england. I just want them to win.
  13. I am not living in the past. I am pretty factually stating these big wr trades and signings rarely lead to a championship. Its almost always the play of the team in the trenches improving. You win up front. OBJ was not some amazing addition that made the rams unstoppable. It was stafford. They had the defense and the running game. Same thing with the AJ Brown addition. The eagles had the best offensive line in the league and their defensive line was pretty fantastic also. Adding toney to this kind of odd. He is not the caliber of player any of these guys are and the chiefs would have won last year with any number of guys playing his spot. They also are not paying him a fortune nor did they give up big draft capital for him. No matter what happens to me if the bills take the next step it is going to be because of the offensive line play was better, they run the ball more traditionally and are able to execute in the redzone because of it better. Having a healthy defense and then some plain old fashion luck that every champion has. there is also the situation here with diggs. There is only one ball and with kincaid and some other new wr to work with if the ball is not going his way enough and you lose a few tight games he is going to make things uncomfortable for everyone and draw a lot of attention. The last thing Josh Allen needs is diggs and hopkins blaming Josh Allen for losing the way all these egomaniac wr do. If Brian Daboll was still here I would be more inclined to want them to go do this because I know he can handle all the personalities and would effectively use everyone within the offense. He was the best coach on the staff. I am not so sure the current staff can handle all these personalities. The last thing any team wants to be doing during a season is fighting itself all year. So again I think they have enough on offense to win, if the line is as improved as it seems it can be I think the backs, tight ends and wide receivers here now are good enough to win each week.
  14. Yes. But I view that motivation in different ways, there are subtle differences to how each player is motivated by money. for some guys it really is about money and ego, some guys it is about money to be a leader on their team. I do not view it as black and white.
  15. Yes the game is vastly different...I would make the case that the NFL today resembles college football about 15 years ago. anyway, I don't buy OBJ as any missing piece to that rams championship. The piece they were missing was stafford. They had the defense and the running game of a championship team and upgraded at qb. AJ Brown does not have championship. He is no different than Randy Moss, Owens etc. They did not get over the hump and win a championship because of them. The biggest change in the eagles last year was hurts terrific play, their outstanding offensive and a defensive line about 8 deep that was all over the quarterback. I would rather the bills have an excellent defense and an excellent running game than another superstar wr on the decline. Give Allen a real running game and an excellent defense and he will take care of the rest. I just think chasing aging expensive wr is the wrong approach. They have a great #1 and what looks to be a good cast around him on offense. If the running game improves allen will make one of the other wr into above average players.
  16. this isn't the time of year to make those signings obviously. My point is that you cant put the organization in a bad position going forward to fit a large salary for a wr who looks to be on the decline and has had some issues. Also these types of guys always think they are coming is as hero's and just expect to win...when it doesn't happen they are not good locker room guys. on the flip side of that, he is the type of wr buffalo does not have, he is big and makes catches in difficult positions at odd angles and in traffic. I just personally think making adjustments to contracts to squeeze in 15+ million for a wr at his age is not a smart move. It is a win now at all costs move however and if they feel they only have 1 or 2 more seasons with this group before they have to make some sort of major changes to the roster or staff I could sort of understand. I think he ends up in baltimore and I kind of want that to happen so I can watch the ravens meltdown late in the year with a bunch of guys who seem only motivated by money.
  17. My personal opinion after watching football for 40 years, Wide Receivers are never the missing piece and do not put teams over the top in winning championships. All the wr trades and big signings through the years and very few have resulted in championships. High end wr who were released traded and never won a championship Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Chris Carter, Joey Galloway, Antonio Brown, Brandon Marshall, andre rison, Roy Williams, etc. etc. Its usually the guys in the trenches who make the biggest differences and the WR are usually home grown on the championship teams. I would be really careful about giving money to an older wr who is expecting to come in and automatically win just because. Teams with those types of guys always seemingly get beat in the playoffs.
  18. If this forum needs a laugh. Bryan Broaddus a former scout and GM who works on the radio in DFW's 105.3 The Fan...(a dreadful station) was talking about the rankings of qb's going into this season. He said of Josh Allen, "I think his decline started last year and he is going to get worse going forward because he cant run anymore" Pretty funny stuff. After the segment they then went on to speculate how much Dak Prescott should get paid on his extension and they think he should get top 5 money.... Funny stuff. Prescott the author of an all time bad playoff Play ( running a qb keeper with no timeouts inside 10 seconds and sliding in bounds as time expired) vs SF two years ago is viewed as a player he has absolutely never been down here. The guy is also always hurt. Anyway I thought I would share. I also heard Broaddus side kick Bobby Belt (biggest dak homer) say Allen was no where near as good as he gets credit for and Prescott was much better. December 17th is going to be awesome.
  19. yea they still make a lot of money. Their fan base is mostly gone and lethargic. They have had empty upper decks for 3 seasons. They have gone from decades long waiting lists for season tickets to barely filling their stadium and only really doing it if the visiting team is a draw of some kind.
  20. that remains to be seen. They have lost at least 50% of their fan base due to snyder. With a stadium that is a complete dump and probably a long shot at the playoffs it seems like that is going to take a while before they are anywhere near what that franchise was. Now if they build a new stadium and their new qb works out and they win the division in the next couple of years I bet a lot of those old fans would come back.
  21. could potentially work but I think that giant wingspan will get a little better reception, i mean your idea sounds like it would get pretty crappy reception.
  22. you have to buy a peacock and then fasten a new hdmi 4.0 to its wings and run run it to your tv.
  23. its not really that big of a deal, in the mid 90s they had thursday night football on tnt. Not everyone had cable. So this stuff is nothing new.
