  1. Klein will be signed, then cut, then brought back after Game One of the regular season. He will be utilized like a chess piece, game-by-game, throughout the season. They don’t want to guarantee his entire yearly salary as a vested veteran, which they have to do if he’s on the squad for Game One. Speed is just as important as size. I’ve often said, if you could put Milano’s heart and head in Edmunds’ body…
  2. Bernard was insurance for Milano. A depth piece.
  3. The “base nickel” is here to stay for awhile. I couldn’t tell you exactly how many teams employ this strategy, but I’d venture to guess it’s well over 70%. The short passing game with 1 TE is here until someone makes it stop being productive. And colleges are actually supplying good QB’s with this offense, too. Now, the 43 alignment could very well “exist” in some form where one linebacker is a safety-linebacker hybrid. This is, for all intents and purposes, what we do with our nickel. You never see Johnson lining wide in any set. That’s not his strength and it would result in him immediately being challenged by any QB who paid attention in meetings.
  4. If Drew Sanders is there when we pick at 27, I would not be surprised whatsoever if he’s the pick. Sanders offers great potential as an edge rusher along with having a great year working at the Mike spot for Arkansas. He and Campbell may both end up being serviceable-to-good pros, but Sanders checks just one more box than Campbell.
  5. I witnessed it live. There’s a reason why a WR coach who was beloved by the players was sent packing, too. Was it all on Shakir? No. We were picking the proverbial WR trash heap by the end of the season. Do you really think they wanted to do this? Shakir was sitting there and they didn’t trust I’m enough to not sign CB and JB. I’ve no inside knowledge but I sure as hell can read football tea leaves.
  6. He was having trouble with the playbook. Slot must recognize blitzes and act as an outlet, Shakir ended a couple drives early in the season by doing his job.
  7. Would love Wagner, Hopkins, and a space eater. Totally. Hopkins (if we pull it off) will bring in a few low-cost vets, which we desperately need right now. I don’t want to count on Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson to be depth. Please, for the love of all that is holy, do not sign those guys again. Lawson playing with a chip on his shoulder is too much. Phillips doesn’t take conditioning seriously enough. Move on Beane. Neither are what they call consummate professionals.
  8. Cannot go into the season with green DT’s and a green MLB. Recipe for disaster.
  9. You are correct! But if we don’t sign Wagner, as a bridge, we’re gonna forced to reach for one. Again, Dodson cannot be “Plan A” going into camp. It’s slim pickings out here now.
  10. We were terribly mismanaged for a loooooong time. The Jets are the Jets. Miami had Dave freaking Wannstedt for way too long. A convergence of circumstances certainly helped move them along. Jesus…no wonder we drink a lot.
  11. We don’t have enough holes to have this number of picks. DT and MLB are the only glaring needs and a future S is close behind. Rookies don’t consistently contribute on 99% of championship rosters. The “alphas” get picked up early and they have potential to help. But, generally speaking, we’d be drafting for other teams to take from us on cutdown day. You can’t stash them all on IR. We cannot go to camp with Dodson as the MLB. I hope the board doesn’t implode when we pick one at 27.
  12. Yes. Gotta keep it easy for these old eyes. Blatz Beer did a number on me from the 4th grade on…
  13. I’m horrible with flow charts, which I absolutely need to try to figure out the picks changing hands. Holy smokes. You put some time and effort into this. Could you do one without trades for us kids in the exceptional children classes?
  14. Just one and I can finally have a remote chance to rest in peace. When the time comes, of course.
  15. My first guess would be any and all games with a kickoff time of 5:00PM Eastern or later.
  16. The pick is needed to fill out roster needs, not on a C who could be had in the latter stages of day 3.
  17. This is possible. They’ll give the young ones every chance to prove themselves in camp.
  18. Morse may be the odd man out at the end of TC, if the new hires can step up. Gotta proactively start managing the cap. We’ll eat some salary this season and be better off next year.
  19. Diggs had a multi-hour meltdown on the sideline during that game and this will continue to happen if they don’t hold each other accountable. Not one person on that sideline knew how to keep him from losing it. Diggs is the kind of personality who can destroy a sideline during a game and I’ll repeat it, nobody could talk him off that ledge. If the coaches are not doing their jobs to perfection, he’s gonna lose it. My point is that the coaches lost that game. It was poorly prepared for, poorly called, and many players knew it. Frazier lost his job, McDermott has one more chance and, if they don’t get it right THIS season, they’re gonna blow it up and start over. They will only have the QB with which to build the team around. Coach is not gonna have the same leeway as his HC mentor Andy Reid. You nailed it, my friend.
  20. So, after this game, our DC semi-retires. Then, our HC comes out and says that he wants to be the DC and that it will be more of an attacking style of defense. Frazier lost the last couple playoff games. Period. Nobody wants to talk about it, but that is what happened. Sure, the HC takes the ultimate blame. But our DEFENSIVE failures cost us our last two playoff games by being too damned soft; once in the last 13 seconds and one for almost an entire game. Leslie is a nice guy, but the blank stares on the sidelines do not exactly exude confidence in me. I mean, WE talk about it, but Taiwan ain’t exactly keepin it real by not specifically discussing this fact. Playing prevent defense in Q1 while already down multiple scores is just about stupid. He schitt the bed. Now, a player needs to speak the damn truth. “Man, we had some real bad situational defense calls in that game.” That’s what I want to read.
  21. And I’m not concerned with “upside” after Edmunds. You can keep the 16 year-olds with their athletic freakishness. Give me some maulers and let’s roll. High IQ and energy guys like Bates and Brown (yes…I went there). If I want someone with me in a bar fight, I want Spencer Freakin Brown as my wingman. That kid ain’t afraid of contact whatsoever. Hell, I remember Jerry Crafts and those days were miserable. This tool was ridiculed for a whole bunch of stuff (not appropriate fodder for this site, look it up and include “Howard Stern” in your search efforts) and I recall a quote that he needed to cut out his favorite food to keep his weight down. His favorite food was “pizzas and chickens”
  22. And Ike Boettger is from Iowa. You nailed it. Played LT there.
