  1. Thanks for the response, yea I def dont think it happens or should happen for that matter, I'm just really curious where everyone lands on this, he is coming off an injury but he has not been injury prone i think over the previous six seasons he missed 4 games though Id have to look that up Im guessing from memory. And his salary is up there but can always be re-worked and according to nfl live his cap hit is 19th among wrs. I'm just wondering how much a GM has to think about a thing like that when the team is so close and other championship caliber teams are stocking talent everywhere as well, and I would really hate it if he went to the pats haha- thats my only drive for signing players so that NE cant get em
  2. We'll sign someone but it wont be a name guy, we just need another body, our improved DLine play will solve any coverage issues and combined with improved play from Edmunds will be enough against the run as well. Our defense is going to surprise this year.
  3. I mean its a pretty easy scenario to work out if what we are assuming is true; Either Beane waits until he gets cut after June 1st and compete with other teams that will be interested, or trade something to guarantee we hold his contract and have first negotiations. I can't start any threads yet so I'm going to post a question here that I have been thinking about; I was watching NFL Live and it appears that Julio Jones is definitely out of Atlanta and that they think that Atlanta gets at most a 2nd round pick unless a bid war gets started, also they pointed out that his salary would rank 19th among wrs-lower than nelson agholor- so I ask myself at the age of 32 I think he has 4 more years at his current level of play but because of his route running ability he could be a viable threat for much longer- Is a 1st round pick worth 4 years of basically hall of fame level play at wr for a team that is in win now mode? And also I would really hate to see him go to the pats.
  4. Sorry, had read the thread and was trying to sum up what I had read and was thinking, but also thanks, there is no way I'm taking the title from Shaw that easy, especially not when compared to one of his monday after game posts.
  5. I have really enjoyed this thread, there has been a ton of talk about the DLine and Star's opt out/importance of a 1tech to keep our LB's(specifically Edmunds) clean. Also talk of if the staff is even worried about a 1tech to demand doubles and occupy blockers and in general be a run stuffer because its a passing league and we don't care if teams run the ball as long as we arent giving up big plays in the passing game. And/or our offense is now good enough and consistent enough where we also don't really care if teams waste their offensive reps on running plays because that is essentially futile when needing to score enough points to beat our offense, of course this is a problem in the playoffs because of stout defenses and even if not a stout defense they can at least rush the passer(playoff teams i mean) putting the pressure back on our defense to stop the run and give our offense more opportunities/time(see both KC games). In those scenarios, (against rosters with more talent or more top end talent, and I think this also goes to the mindset of building a team where in the beginning you are trying to win with a 'lesser' roster and need a specific formula per team to stay competitive), we are basically asking our defense to not let up big plays and in the end either get a turnover or get that one stop to give the offense one last chance to pull ahead just like they tried in the first KC game where they were only one score away but both sides of the ball couldn't get it done in the end, but with a 'lesser' roster against the super bowl champs they were within one score in the 4th. Also I agree with those people who point to H Philips play before his injury and needing this last year to fully recover both physically and mentally(really being able to trust his legs when he is full go takes time and reps, people sometimes underestimate this aspect of injuries) to either take the majority of the reps from Star or at least be his equal as a sub. Getting Star and H.P. back and in form should really improve the overall play of our front 7. I pretty much give credence to a combination of all these factors being important aspects to pay attention to. For me the most important aspects of the DLine are setting the edge(depending on the defense of course my point being that our D often asks the DE to set an edge), attacking a gap to put pressure on guard/tackle or center/guard combos-i suppose thereby occupying blockers, and penetration which usually wins the play for the defense. With the additions of Rousseau and Basham we have added some nice tools and versatility Rousseau has the size length and power to set the edge in the run game and get after the passer, Basham can also set the edge in the run and on passing downs he can kick inside/or he can just straight up play inside full time and leave the edge to Hughes, Addison and Rousseau(doubtful) just pointing out the versatility and options these guys allow. Another point out there, one that I tend to make because of the philosophy of how we build our team, how we draft, how we coach and that is player development. I guess it kinda goes along with draft position and expectations as well, some guys are brought in and they can contribute immediately some are brought in and need time to develop their full potential(especially true of the freak athletes with little experience and production), hopefully all guys can contribute something right away like special teams, but I believe we are more willing to be patient with these types of players because of our coaches and of course the high end pay out that comes with freak athletes who have the lights go on(see Mike Vick for a year or two post dogs in philly). This is not a one sided strategy though as they do not soley draft off the chart athletes, they also value experience and production. Someone said that the McDermott and the coaches are clearly in a position to know more whether they can rely upon Star, Phillips next year and about the progress of players like Edmunds, Oliver, AJ, Jackson and Ford, Knox, Motor, Moss, etc. and I trust them in this respect for a lot of reasons, not least of which is their development and trust in JA. Can you imagine last year's offense getting better and then being combined with the top 5 defenses we had just a few years ago before JA and even in his first couple years our defense was markedly better than last. Chalk it up to Corona weirdness that hurt prep, practice and development of younger players+ opts outs+ injuries+ tougher schedule+ teams needing to keep up with our O+ whatever I'm forgetting and next year looks very promising from a younger player breakout perspective. Plus it will be nice to know and have a definitive answer on so many guy's development and possibilities for the future- AJ, Oliver, Edmunds, Phillips, Ford, Knox, Motor, etc.
  6. Finkel and Einhorn. . .Einhorn and Finkle. . . what am I missing?
  7. lol ok not a big deal, was just confused because i saw some other newbie start a thread and he had like 5 total posts. I've been around since 1982, and was originally posting on the old buffalobills.com message board before they closed it, then came over here but was just reading for awhile before i decided to jump in and post as well. Thanks all for the help.
  8. i thought so too then I saw that first thread from another new member the other day and he had like 5 posts total not that big a deal really but it would be nice to be able to start a thread the one or two times a year i actually have a thread to start, thanks lol thanks
  9. ok but how would i change being able to start a thread, or direct message someone
  10. Haha that would be funny, I must have heard right from nfl network this morning. Anyways, Chandler can you direct message me please, I have a couple moderator questions nevermind guess the bills wont be going to London according to the sportsbar with danger and battaglia
  11. I think you are right, cuz I was in the other room and heard Josh Allen, playing the Jags in London, and when I checked they had the Jags Josh Allen on. and I of course thought they were talking about the real Josh Allen
  12. That is terrible, early bye week, pats and bucs on short weeks, all away primetime games(cept the lowly sAINT'S), even the opening week kinda sucks because steeler fans travel like mofo's if we don't buy up tickets quick half the stadium will be steeler fans. Also I'd much rather play both Pats games earlier in the season. Also don't like that we are traveling to London to play the Jags-just heard it on NFL network
  13. Hey Chandler tried to DM you but I am not allowed, can you DM me please I have some questions, basically I'd like to be able to start threads and DM people. Not that I will do either very often, but it would be nice to at least be able to. Sorry this is the only way I can think to get your attention.
  14. LimeAid I think I read somewhere that you are a moderator, if true can you direct message me I have a couple questions. I tried to DM you but apparently I am allowed 0 messages a day, and I am not allowed to start threads or do pretty much anything but read and sometimes reply.
  15. I dont think that's quite what we're doing now, though I couldn't be sure, I do believe though that if a situation should arise where we need to spend a little extra to get us over the top I'm confident the Pegulas would step up.
  16. Our DLine is going to be so much more impactful this year, it's going to be quite awesome.
  17. There never is really a cap issue as things can always be worked out, there are a million ways to move cap money around. That being said I think they believe in the pay as you go model that they have been doing and not kicking it down the road, I think the reason for this is that they like the flexibility this allows. I also think when they feel the roster is almost as set as it can be, which in a year or two it could be or sooner if guys step up, and paying as they go would allow them to make big free agent moves if they feel they are in a situation where 1 or 2 studs in the right places gets them over the proverbial hump.
  18. I agree with a lot of what you're saying here and I'm simply responding to say so. The Tom vs Bill thing is kinda funny because things didn't happen differently, if they had Tom would still have been successful wherever he was and Bill would have been successful as well, but I think we can all agree that they wouldnt have been as successful. Maybe it takes the Pats a few more years to find a good QB to be successful with, those coaches would be winning eventually because they know how to win. It'll become very clear when Mac Jones takes over and the Pats are deadly again, the fun thing to watch for people who aren't fans of the Bills, Fins, and Jets will be to see if they can work towards being even in the same realm as successful as they were when they had Brady. Of course the league is changing, not only has it become a passing league with Pass Int calls and unnecessary roughness etc that has limited defenses but in my opinion there are a lot more quality QB's and Coaches in the league than at any time in the leagues history. Just look at the all the current starters and the 2-3 rooks who should pan out in some regard, I'd say half the league has QBs you can win a super bowl with; Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes, Wilson, Herbert, Allen, Jackson, Carr, Tannehill, Mayfield, Burrow, Roethlisberger, Watson, Prescott, Stafford, Ryan, Murray, and some borderline guys who could be argued for and/or guys who the jury is still out on> Cousins, Goff, Wentz, Jones, Lock, Darnold, Hurts, Tua, Winston/Hill, Garroppolo On my first list id say the upper echelon guys are- Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Watson, Burrow, Rodgers, Brady, Herbert, Prescott, Stafford, Murray, Wilson, then maybe Carr, Mayfield, Ryan, Tannehill, Roth
  19. There is really only one formula that has ever worked to win a super bowl when a team doesn't have a premier QB; And that was to have a game manager who didn't turn the ball over-could distribute the ball to playmakers -has that or at least some of that 'clutchiness'/'poise' to complete a couple 3rd and longish when necessary(5-15yards) in the second half/when teams load the box. And to protect said QB the team had to have a dominant OLine which in turn led to a generally clean pocket and a solid if not punishing running game.(The Pats current OLine looks like who'd you'd gather up if you needed to create a human battering ram). And said team of course also had to have a dominant defense/special teams, already have a solid core with Gilmore, Guy, Winovich, Hightower, Jackson, Jones,McCourty, Duggar Then they went and added Van Noy, Judon, Mills, Godchaux, plus they have or added a couple guys who are solid/improving or are just good depth. They will have a top 5-10 defense especially with Billy being all pissed off. (Oh and nabbed one of the best DT's in Barmore and got a good one in Perkins too, and I liked McGrone coming out this year too, dont much about Bledsoe) And said team also generally had a very good coaching staff from top to bottom, which of course the Pats have had since Billy first arrived as he has always known the importance of getting the best of the best at every coaching position(most underrated imo was Dante Scarnecchia(thankfully retired, unfort they did bring back Patricia who will always be a better coordinator than head coach)). They have pretty much all the elements and really their offense is setup very nicely for any QB but in particular Cam and anybody coming out of college. For Cam they can use designed runs and rpo's and of course play action and with their personnel alone they can allow their QBs to have better options throwing in the middle of the field.(The last 2 being positive for any QB obviously but also more so for rookies or game managers). With Mac Jones they lose the running ability but they gain the ability to attack the entire field through the air and in time I believe a better understanding of the defense and how to use the offense to manipulate each defense. In my opinion its gonna be a hotly contested AFC east especially if Tua starts to play in any way how many people thought he could coming out the Fins have a solid team too. And I think the Jets finally have a coaching staff now they'll have to find out if they have their QB.
  20. HaHa poor Levi every year he is in a dog fight for his job because they don't think his physical tools are elite enough to get them where they want. But even more so this competition for Taron at the nickel, very good inside player and very effective in predominately zone defenses.
  21. I like these picks, i can see us being a lot more multiple with our fronts next year, Hughes is probably the happiest because after about 4-5 games they aren't going to be able to only double him. I could see us using more tite/mint fronts and attacking the b gaps in passing situations. Looks like we shouldnt have a problem setting the edge anymore either.
  22. id be surprised if we dont move up in the 4th or even in the 5th again, maybe take 3 picks in the 5th and be done
  23. Out of curosity who would you have taken that was still on the board?
  24. People have been ragging on a Beane a little about not having the ability or at least not showing it so far in getting superstars, and I think the jury is still out though what happens with key players this year will tell us a lot, but I also think part of the strategy intially was of course going for superstars but also leaning toward guys with higher floors more so than guys with higher ceilings, and I think now that was have our base roster, they, McBean, are now going for more higher ceiling guys than higher floor which has a better probability of having guys turn out to be absolute superstars instead of just solid starters. Though if Rousseau had been able to come out after that ridiculous season he probably would have been a top 15-20 pick easy.
