  1. This will be an unpopular view, but I would definitely take a QB in the first round if there is a very good one is available. I have read that some scouts are already projecting that nine college QBs will have first round grades going into the draft. I think competition is a good thing, and we may not have an opportunity like this in the near future.
  2. Whether we can have success and make the playoffs in the next number of years will come down to whether EJ develops into an above average starting NFL quarterback or better. At this point, we have no idea if this will happen.
  3. How do we have a "great" receiving corps? It is, at best, a work in progress.
  4. Not happy with the front office. No excuse for Brown at guard. $20 million in cap space should have been used in some fashion, otherwise you are wasting one of your most important assets and advantages over the other teams in the league. Should have picked up a veteran QB as soon as Kolb was injured (one that could make the team). The Byrd situation is another disaster and will likely result in a trade that will not return fair value. One step forward with what may have been a good draft and two steps back with odd moves and the failure to take advantage of our cap space.
  5. Geno does throw a beautiful ball and can be very accurate, but something about the way he carries himself does not seem to fit with being a leader on the field. Not sure whether either or both of Geno and EJ will be top quality QBs in the league. Was not a great year to draft a QB in the early rounds.
  6. This is a disaster. Tuel and White. Yikes. This is embarrassing. How are we going to win any games with this duo? One is an undrafted free agent rookie and the other could not make an NFL roster out of training camp. Someone in the front office should be fired for this because it is going to cost us four losses or more.
  7. He was the only one of the available QBs who would have been a potential upgrade. Too bad. Tuel/White will be a disaster.
  8. This could be one of the worst secondaries ever fielded for an NFL game. Rogers, Williams (at CB), Leonhard and Searcy. Pettine really has a tough task today. Byrd needs to go. Bills probably cannot get much for him with his injury and impending free agency (plus known contract demands), but having him on the roster is way too detrimental for a young team and new coach.
  9. Doesn't Mario count for $20 million under our cap next year? If this is correct, I wonder if the Bills will evaluate whether he is worth the cap hit going forward.
  10. We all knew the depth at the CB position going into the season was poor. Same with guard. The injuries to Gilmore and Brooks confirm the lack of depth at CB. Even with a healthy group of CBs, the Bills should have picked up another veteran CB before training camp. There was a large pool of available free agents at CB and the Bills had the money. There really is no excuse for this or thinking that Brown would be serviceable at guard. I understand playing your young guys, but only if they have the potential to develop. I don't think that Brown, Rogers, Robey or Burton fit in this category.
  11. EJ was not throwing accurately yesterday, but it is not like the WRs were getting open even with 1:1 coverage.
  12. If you have a quality player (near Pro Bowl caliber), $20 million in cap space, and there is no adequate replacement for the player available (for whatever reason), then you pay the guy.
  13. I do not understand this front office. How did they think that the o-line would be successful with Brown starting at LG? They knew it was likely that the team would lose Levitre, so there is no excuse for not finding a replacement in the draft or through free agency. There also were many CBs available in free agency. Should have signed a veteran CB in free agency. We had the cap space. Makes no sense to me.
  14. Spiller (knee) Carrington (leg, carted off) M. Williams McKelvin (hamstring) Dareus Any updates on how bad these injuries are? Are there more players to add to list?
  15. EJ threw way too many deep passes today (and most were way off target). The Bills had so many opportunities on offense, but EJ played one of the worst games I have seen in years.
  16. I agree about EJ, but the offensive scheme seems poor.
  17. Why does EJ keep throwing long passes when he is pressured? Are there any outlets/slants? Is it EJ or poorly designed plays?
  18. A really poorly played game and bad coaching for both teams, but I don't care if we win.
  19. Even with so many players out, defense has played well enough today, although we still have problems with the rush defense.
  20. EJ and Rogers are killing us today. Seems like a lot of guys are out: McKelvin, Dareus, and Spiller. Not sure if Spiller is injured, but it was Choice and Fred for the last two offensive series.
  21. We are being outplayed and outcoached. Hackett is a return to the horrible OCs we had before Gailey. They need to adjust the pace of plays if needed, and it was needed in the Bills last possession before the half ended.
  22. Defense played well, especially considering the offense played poorly overall. New England does not look like a powerhouse this year. I think our division is weak this year.
  23. In looking at our prospects in an objective manner, it is difficult to come up with a scenario where this team will have a winning record this season. I am expecting much worse. We have a rookie QB who missed a good part of the preseason, a mess of a secondary, particularly with Gilmore out of action for a significant period, a rookie starting at MLB flanked by castoffs from other teams, an inexperienced group of WRs after Stevie, and a weakened o-line with the loss of Levitre. With all of these potential negatives, what I hope for from this team is better coaching, particularly on defense, a QB who will flash athletic talent and leadership abilities, an aggressive defense, a group of WRs that will show speed and quickness, and overall improvement as the season progresses. Clearly, we deserve better after 13 years of ineptitude, but if the team can show progress and give us comfort that we have the right coaches and QB for long-term success, at least we can hold on to some optimism if it is a difficult season. It also would be nice if EJ outperforms Geno Smith this year.
  24. I still have no confidence in our front office. How can we expect to win with two rookie QBs, no starting caliber CBs after Gilmore, an offensive line with a below average LG and RT, a below average group of linebackers, no overall depth, and a very young group of wide receivers? I try to be optimistic, but this seems like way too much to overcome this year. Clearly, we are rebuilding again, not reloading. If EJ develops during the year and our draft picks show potential, that would at least be a start to a better future.
  25. Nix hit on some of his first round picks (Spiller and Gilmore), but not much else (not counting this year because it is way too early to tell). Any second round picks and lower that are making any kind of a contribution to this team other than Carrington and Glenn? His drafting was horrible, particularly in the later rounds.
