Why Your Team Sucks: 2021 Buffalo Bills
FLFan replied to Captain Caveman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. Not funny, just mean spirited. -
Many people seem to be projecting qualities on the Steelers that they have not possessed for some time now. Many people also like to underestimated the capabilities of the Bills defense. This game may be close for a while (1 quarter) but will not be close after that. The Bills have the better QB, better personnel overall, and at this point are better coached. Bills 34 - 16

The third paragraph quotes Goodel and it is clearly a threat. It is about as direct as he can be at this point but I think most, certainly the government officials and business people understand what he is saying. He said very much the same thing at the time of the sale and every other time the issue comes up. A new stadium is necessary in order for the Bills to remain viable long term in Buffalo. That is “as much” to me. Sorry if you disagree. I am really not looking for an argument, just expressing my opinion, so you can save the snarky replies.

The same deal in Cleveland you say. The Browns were allowed to abandon Cleveland because they could not get a commitment on a new stadium, while Baltimore was willing to build one. Baltimore lost their franchise to Indy for the same reason, and only saw the NFL return when they agreed to build it. Cleveland only received an expansion franchise in return for building a new stadium. The Browns and Colts were historic NFL franchises but that did not matter to the greed machine, just like the Bills in Buffalo do not matter. Their take from their TV contracts will not be a penny less if the Bills move, in fact will probably be a good deal more as the Buffalo TV market is so small to begin with.

What Jones said was that he would prefer the team was able to stay in Buffalo, so he hopes they can work it out. If PSE and the State/County cannot put a new stadium deal in place you can rest assured that he will be at the head of the line in demanding the Bills move. The fact is that the other NFL owners are tired of being short changed by the Buffalo Bills with respect to contribution to shared league revenues. This was made clear to the Pegulas from the very beginning and widely reported at the time. It is either build a new stadium, or find someone who will. Goodel has also said as much in recent comments. I personally think this will work out but nothing is ever assured when politics are involved.

Sanders, by any measure of WR value and success, is the superior player. He always has been and will be this year as well. The straight line speed measurements from the distant past are meaningless, even more meaningless than they were at the time as predictors of NFL success. Sanders is a clear upgrade over Brown, at any stage, but without question at this stage of their respective careers.

The title of this thread is a bit misleading. The article is a discussions of the top challenges Buffalo must overcome and is written by a local writer, Tim Graham. He certainly is not predicting they will not succeed. I thought it was an excellent article and spot on in terms of the questions and obstacles the Bills face, despite being a team fully capable of doing it. Whether you agree that the potential disruption to team chemistry and the potential impact of key players missing games due to Covid protocols is the number 1 issue or not, it clearly belongs on this list. Good read none the less.

Belichick has no choice but to say that. The NFL has made that clear, going back to their admonishment of Beane earlier this year and the peepee slapping that the old ball coach down in Jacksonville no doubt received. The reality is that any GM/Coach that does not consider that as a factor, especially for the bottom part of their roster is probably guilty of malfeasance. Cam has a long history of being a knucklehead, and I could easily see his careless attitude with Covid being a factor. That and the fact that he just is not very good any more.

Views from the Opposition City - week 1 Pittsburgh

I have not seen any of the Steelers this preseason. Has Ben’s arm strength regenerated over the off season? If not, his weapons mean little. 34/20 Bills is my expectation here. -
Buffalo Bills 2021 practice squad players
FLFan replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Warring seems like an excellent developmental prospect. Let’s hope he pans out and can possibly even help us later on this year. -
We know this must somehow be a good idea because Belicheat is a genius. No doubt the NFL Network and ESPN will devote significant air time to debate this brilliant new strategy.

Bills cuts to get to 53 [final info in the OP]
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, but it looks like he will be ready, which I am sure they knew. They will have to have at least one viable option on the practice squad. -
Yes. He was the the best receiving option on a team without any real options at WR. That does not make him elite.
-
Sweeney offers more flexibility at the TE position. Specifically, he can be trusted as an in-line blocker, and Hollister cannot.

Bills cuts to get to 53 [final info in the OP]
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not sure I get the Hollister love. He has bounced around because he is a very limited athlete at the position who does not block very well. This makes him of limited value, certainly not a starter, more a third TE on the roster guy. You will likely see both Morris and Becker on the practice squad to fill this role in an emergency. Otherwise they have no need for a third TE active in any given week. I share people’s concerns about Knox’s reliability and hoped the Bills might be able to upgrade in the off season but Hollister was certainly not that. The TE position will not be the difference in championship or not for this team. They have plenty of offensive firepower without an all pro at that position. It is the OL and DL that will need to make the difference. -
Bills cuts to get to 53 [final info in the OP]
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, but logically, he is the seventh WR, he has a nagging foot injury and now a head injury, and they need to sign their LS back. They can certainly afford to lose Stevenson for a few weeks, more so than a number of other players who could have been candidates. -
There will never come a day when I will take the opinion of someone who voluntarily goes by the name Booger seriously.

I believe so. They were at 77, so with these cuts, and moving Wade to IR, that’s 53. -

Typically not is my guess. Will be game plan and/or injury dependent. -
Stephon Gilmore to miss first 6 weeks of season on PUP
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unsurprising news. This is Gilmore all over. If he does come back to play at all this year, NE fans can expect some classic Stephon “don’t get hurt” style of play. He had some very good years after he left for NE, but I am not and never was sorry he was gone. -
Shaq Lawson on trade block (update - traded to Jets)
FLFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree. Good move for the Jets, because they are desperate. I would not expect Lawson to provide much more value than the sixth round pick they spent for him. -
Lamar is the best running back in the league.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 3
FLFan replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That style of offense is easy enough to defend if you know it’s coming because there are no other options. Yes Rivers had a really good day (although not good enough to win) but he is a hall of fame QB and NE has none of those to put it kindly. -
