New album from Purple Mountains aka David Berman, his first news music in more than ten years. I’d just gotten this album on Tuesday, Wednesday he decided to kill himself, 3 days before the start of his tour. I listened to the album on Thursday and immediately realized that it was basically his suicide note. He was in Silver Jews with Steven Malkmus of Pavement fame previously. The dude was very dark and clearly very troubled, but damn did he create some good music. Sorry to bring the mood of this thread down.

Good Music Documentaries

Just finished watching it, WOW! May not be everyone's cup of tea, but damn that girl has some drive, tons of talent and a lot of inner power. There were times I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. such a cool concept by that kutiman dude. I think she is more adele without the yelling, but you hear that passion that Amy brought to the table. I am really glad my buddy gave me the recommendation, i really enjoyed it -

watching one right now on Netflix, very cool premise so far. Called Princess Shaw, about a female 'lounge' singer from New Orleans who puts her a capella songs on youtube, then some dude in israel, called Kudiman, adds does arrangements and adds instrumentals from his home. Princess Shaw has an Adele/Amy WInehouse vibe in her voice, she seems like really sweet person that has been through some rough times and keeps plugging away...i think it culminates in her going to do a somewhat surprise show in Israel or NY with all the back accompaniment unknown her. She's made some appearances on songs with bands like galactic. could be a very under the radar gem -

Another dramatized 'documentary' is 24 Hour Party People, about the Manchester Music scene. If I recall correctly it opens with the Sex Pistols playing in a Church as a new up and coming band, then journeys on through the hey day of the scene through the early-mid 80's. It's entertaining if you listened to those bands. OMD, Joy Division, New Order, Sex Pistols etc -

We've discussed it before but one of the best i've ever seen is Dave Grohl's Sound City, it's all about reclaiming a legendary mixing board and all the albums and artists that had come into contact with it in their careers. It's very well done and plenty of guest interviews. http://buy.soundcitymovie.com/ -
Only caught the last 5 minutes of the reunion, but nice job by Stone Cold. He could have played his typical bad ass self, but he really showed a lot of love towards the rest of the reunion crew, WWE staff etc. That was pretty cool!
