RD 1, Pick 9: DT Ed Oliver, University of Houston
Bob in STL replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best TE was taken the prior to Oliver. We we took the BPA and he fits a critical need. Judging by his reaction he WANTS to play for Buffalo and for McD. I have seen many underwhelmed reactions from player we drafted. Not today. -

Nope. 6’3”. 304 lbs and a DL. Not a linebacker. -

Too funny. Name one 285 pound LB. we are waiting. Name one. -
Sure, other teams will trade their 2nd and 3rd picks for a our 4th, 5th and 6th round picks. That happens all of the time? More likely scenario is we trade our 2 and a mid rounder to move up into the 2nd or even late first. We trade our 3rd and a mid rounder to move up in the 3rd. I doubt we come out of this with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds unless we trade down in round 1.

Lots of hard work. Thanks for sharing. Everything I’ve read shows a few WR’s going in round 1. Also it looks like this is weak LB draft by your account.

Why do people at NFLN take Cynthia Frelund seriously?
Bob in STL replied to D521646's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok so this thread is about one person being sick of someone who he claims is always wrong yet continues to host a show. Add in that its a woman who never played football and that puts it in a whole new dimension. Like any other journalist today, she does not have to correct, she just has to bring data and an opinion to capture an audience and make the network and sponsors happy. She must be doing that. In todays world of "PC" consciousness, and Me-Too, it is easy for people to get frustrated. I think if we all just stopped being offended this kind of stuff will blow over. -
Did you miss last season? That was his chance to show he is a true NFL starter. He is not. He played poorly at both C and OG. At best he is a back up C/G. It’s time for both parties to move on.

Robin Lehner on playing in Buffalo & Buffalo Fans
Bob in STL replied to Reed83HOF's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The Sabres “atmosphere” was very positive upon its inception and the winning came fast. The Knox’s were great owners and widely respected. Buffalo Sabres culture was established as a great one. Imlach and Bowman would not have gone to Buffalo otherwise. Sellouts were the norm. The fans had a love affair with the players that still is there today. Regis, Golisano - each had issues but both won and had some success and thing stayed positive for the most part. The Sabres had a very high winning percentage going into the Pegula years. No Cups, but mostly winning seasons and many star players. Pegula’s are very nice people but their teams are just a calamity. The money wasted on mediocre free agents, firing Lindy and keeping Darcy. The Ted Black, Pat LaFontaine, etc., sideshow. I saw and felt the “bad atmosphere“ the minute I saw GMTM in action. The arena has become a run down morgue in comparison to others. There are continues firings in the PSE management structure. I get what Lehner is saying about the atmosphere being bad. It was and probably still is. I also think that Lehner played his part in the bad atmosphere and the losing culture. He had a role in it. His did not prepare and play like a true professional. He did not hold up his end of the contract. He hid his illness and he hurt the team. By his own admission he played and practiced drunk and did not fully support the cause. I feel for him and many of us do. He has a serious illness. Still, Lehner is accountable for some if that atmosphere. He was a key contributor. We can talk about Kane, ROR, Jack, and Sam too. We will nevet know what really goes on there, but whatever it is it is not good. The atmosphere can only be a sum of the parts that it is composed off. -

Pittsburgh is a decent city and has been a model of a "rustbelt" (hate that term) city that has reinvented itself. Pittsburgh has greatly benefited by philanthropy from its aristocratic families of the past, something Buffalo has much less of. Pittsburgh's rebuild did not have to contend with the big tax dollar drain from NYC either. Buffalo is just starting its renaissance and is behind Pittsburgh in that area. Buffalo has the benefit of a much bigger and potentially better waterfront. The lake and river are just starting to be developed. Add in Niagara Falls, Lake Ontario, the Southern Tier, and easy access to Canada and Buffalo becomes a far more interesting place for visitors than Pittsburgh and its three somewhat polluted rivers. Buffalo has better food, diversity, culture, it has both natural beauty and amazing architecture, and a storied history. Yes, Pittsburgh has the good fortune of winning iconic sports franchises. That to can change. -
Mcdermott's thoughts on Bills aging backfield.
Bob in STL replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Except Murphy cannot pass block. This was a liability last year. Maybe he can improve this facet of his game, otherwise his presence is limiting. I think we draft at least 1 RB in rounds 4 or later. -
If the Bills don't draft a pass rusher...........
Bob in STL replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True, and conventional thinking is that DL is a position that gets premium draft slots as opposed to TE, RB, OG/C. Of course there are exceptions. I think they will go BPA but expect it will be a DL/LB or maybe even OT. -

No but Hughes is getting up there in age, Lorax is already up there, and Lawson is not a big pass rusher. The 9th pick is a prime spot for a top DL. -

Should the NFL eliminate the onside kick?
Bob in STL replied to Buffalo03's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say return the kickoff running start back the way it was and keep the onside kick as a viable play. I also want to eliminate downing the ball for a touchback. Every kickoff returned or you lose one point. Tackled in the end zone is a safety, even on kickoffs and punts. PLAY BALL. -
Yes. I can see us trading up to try to move up to get better impact players I am not at all concerned if all 10 don’t make the team? Every year we draft 6-8 players and then we sign a whole bunch of undrafted rookies. Every year some of the undrafted guys make the 53 or the PS and some of the drafted ones don’t. Seems like the undrafted do better than rounds 6 and 7 actually.

Brandon Frickin Beane Man... ????
Bob in STL replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I said was he is executing to a plan and he brought in 8 players that could help. The culture is changing. Listen to what the players are saying. This team is turning around. I saw the same things happening in the Polian/Levy era.
