Few things not being talked about concerning this offense.

Just wondering when has Brown played good? Not trying to be silly. I really can't remember saying wow Brown looks solid today. -

Based on your description here of Allen he certainly doesn't sound elite. He hasn't made his receivers better, he isn't decisive enough with his throws, he doesn't hit his check downs, and he doesn't make the proper adjustments. Did I summarize accurately what you said? Boy, I'm more confused than ever... That's not the Bills offense. Allen isn't running a west coast offense or a version of it. Allen is more than capable of competing short quick passes. He did it with Beasley quite well. Joe Burrow and the Bengals are a great example of what you are talking about. That's not the Bills offense. -

Of course, he deserves criticism when he plays poorly. I've criticized him myself. My premise isn't that he is void of criticism. My contention is that he can read defenses. He vision is very good. A poster stated he can't read defenses. I think that's just flat out inaccurate. -

I get that but to imply he can't read defenses is absurd. Sadly, he can't live up to Superman every game. The Bills organization has overly relayed on Allen for years. He's had a subpar oline for years, a new OC, and a lack of weapons. He's literally carried the team on his back for years! The overwhelming sentiment around the league is that the Bills were/are too dependent on Allen. No one is void of criticism that includes Allen. At times, he tries to do too much and that leads to turnovers, he may hold onto the ball too long, sometimes he's not as accurate as he can be, and he may make the wrong read. I guess if you are anti Josh or a complete perfectionist go ahead and criticize him. Seems pretty silly to me to advocate criticism to arguably the top 3 QB in the league. Think what he could do with a consistent solid running game, great offensive schemes and play calling, offensive weapons besides Diggs, coaching, and an Oline that can protect him. That where the true and valid criticism lies. Allen is the solution not the problem. Sadly, when Allen isn't Superman the Bills are more likely to lose especially against good to great teams. I guess it's fair to criticize him for not being Superman. Maybe he needs some more Robins to help him out. -

I think you are being ultra critical of Allen. The guy is simply elite, franchise, special, and one of the best in the league. To criticize Allen seems pretty disingenuous imho. Of course, there's always room for improvement but man let's focus on some bonafide issues. Allen isn't the problem he's the solution. He's the building block of the team. I just don't get the crusade you are on with regards to Allen. About 30 teams would trade their current QB for Allen in a heartbeat. Yes, the Allen who can't read defenses in your eyes. I think it's wise to focus your criticism elsewhere. -

Perhaps it's terminology. You said "he can't read defenses." That's just not true! If you said he can improve in reading defenses then I think thats fair. Besides Brady and Breeze, I'm not sure any QB can't improve reading defenses. I don't think anyone would debate that Allen or any other QB couldn't improve in reading a defense. I don't think many football fans will agree that Allen can't read a defense. A top 3-5 QB in the NFL has to have skill in reading a defense. Think Cam Newton here. No way in hell is Allen a version of Newton in the passing game. Did you see him play the game against the Chiefs? The 13 second game as a reference. Arguably one of the best QB performances I've seen. His vision was virtually flawless. -

Come on man. You haven't watched Allen play enough if you think he can't read defenses. Does he get fooled by defenses? Yes at times he does? Does he take big chances with his throws. Yes he does. However, to imply the guy can't read defenses is absurd. You don't have his stats without him being able to have much success reading defenses. No way no how! You don't have to check any box for me. However, when I see ridiculous takes I will challenge them. No offense. Frankly, it's ridiculous to say Allen can't read a defense. -

I'm one big critic of players and coaches. That's truly an understatement. Your anti Allen crusade is pretty far off and off base. I don't think most here are afraid to criticize Allen when he plays poorly. Yes, he does have poor games. Yes, he did throw some really bad INTs last year. Yes, he should make easier underneath throws, etc... Yes, sometimes he tries to do too much and makes errors. Yes, he does make some bad throws. Criticism is warranted at times. I'm the first one to jump on him for poor play. However, Allen is the least of the Bills problems. He's the exact opposite. He's the glue, the stability of the team, the franchise QB all teams look for, and directly responsible for most of the Bills winning. Without Allen, the Bills would likely not make the playoffs. The team isn't nearly as good without him. The Bills organization is very fortunate to have Allen. It was a beyond fantastic pick by Beane. Allen was anything but a sure thing. Huge potential that has absolutely reaked vast rewards. Be appreciative of this. Criticizing him is more than OK. Allen is the first to say when he plays like Shi#. Come on man, the anti Allen crusade is pretty ridiculous unless you are trolling. -

This is pretty crazy. Allen is the key reason why the Bills are on a playoff run. He's that good! Of course he's not perfect, makes errors, and can't do it by himself especially in the playoffs. This take is pretty hard to understand and justify. Allen is clearly one of the top QBs in the league. He's the least of the Bills issues. -

Kind of reminds me of when they picked up Beasley and Brown. Everything wasn't fine then nor is it fine now. -

What moves are out there? I think the Bills management rolled the dice here. Hoping for a steady to good Dawkins and a much improved and healthy Brown. I suppose both can still happen. Yesterday, doesn't bode lots of confidence though. Beane upgraded the interior of the line but the tackles are a huge question. Year after year we fans seemed concerned about the oline. Getting frustrated when you see the likes of KC and Philly being so successful. I thought the game was won in the trenches so long as you have a franchise QB. Maybe, that's old school thinking and incorrect. I think it's pretty hard to win games if you have two weak tackles. -
Great post!

I've always thought Dawkins was decent to average. The poor play of others just masked a lot of his short comings. He looks good thus far.

What are your top TWO takeaways from the Bills-Steelers game?
newcam2012 replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's fair. Just frustrating to see that Beane seemingly can't build a quality oline that's worthy of a SB run. It will mostly fall on Allen to be Superman again. That's possible but unlikely. Frustrated because there was a huge glaring hole at MLB when Edmunds departed. To date, the Bills MLB game plan seems inadequate to say the least. I know it's only preseason if you will. However, I don't want to see the Bills limping into the Jets game. Maybe that's an overreaction. -

He certainly doesn't look to be successful developing Brown. His unit last year certainly wasn't good. Sure it's not all on him but I wouldn't call his short second time tenure a success. He was revered as a savior by many. He hasn't lived up to the hype thus far. Then again this might not be fair because of many factors. -

Not gleeful at all. There were some positives to swallow but the negatives were absolutely glaring. Are the Bills planning on trotting out the current rostered players at tackle and MLB? If so, barring a dramatic and unlikely improvement the Bills will not sniff a SB. Add in a coaching staff that has yet to get it done come playoff time. In the short term, the Jets game certainly looks like a big statement game. -

Exactly! Yet, many are willing to ignore or give excuses. Who cares about the score. It's the above that raises eyebrows. -

The Jets D must be salivating. Delvin Cook will be looking to hit a hone run again. Is the window closing? Is it time for change? -

Of course losing the game is meaningless. However, this micro viewpoint is short sighted. To blowoff concerns, strengths, weaknesses, coaching, the roster, etc...is kind of disingenuous. Also, under the McD era the Bills have played the pre season games pretty well. Not sure what his record is but it looks as if he likes to establish winning ways in the pre season. No need to overreact here but there are some areas of concern that seemingly were amplified after yesterday's game. More specifically, Oline, MLB, and coaching. Torrence and Kincaid are looking really good. -

Bills practice Thurs 8/17 starting with McD interview
newcam2012 replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. All I'm saying is the Bills seem to have a weakness at MLB. We have no idea how it will play out this season. What's kind of ironic is how many now seemingly are minimizing the position. I mean Edmunds was literally the QB of the defense. When he was out the Bills defense was weaker. I'm not saying the Bills can't or won't win with Dodson or whoever is the starting MLB. I get many have confidence in McD's defense. As you said, let's see how it plays out. With that said,I think it's still fair to say the Bills have a weakness at the MLB position. Not ideal but not insurmountable.
