McD is 4-5 in the playoffs. His teams have choked away several playoff games. Jags, Texans, KC, and Cincinnati jump off the page. More specifically, his team wasn't ready to play vs Cincinnati. Excuses all you want that's on him! The coach has to have his team ready!!! KC and 13 seconds. Disaster on an epic level. McD choke job will go down in the NFL history books. McD hasn't gotten it done playoff time. He has largely failed and his subpar record supports that. McD is just a head coach with a poor playoff record and good motivational speeches. A coach that has one of the most talented QB in the league. A head coach that has no SB appearances and no rings. If you want to point to regular season records then McD is excellent. That is sufficient for many fans to support McD. That in itself makes many think McD is a great coach. Hello Marty S... A valid argument can be said that McD has under performed and has been out coached on the biggest stage. Exactly. Take into account his age as well. The Bills need Von badly because the pass rush without him will likely not get it done.

That's a really big ask IMHO. Sure it's possible but how likely? Great jersey pick.
-
Agree. I'm interested to see if the Jets try to bully the softer Bills in the trenches. Smash mouth football sort of speak. Additionally, that Jet secondary might be one of the best in the league. Diggs might be taken out of the game and what WR for Buffalo is reliable?
-
I think the Jets D will give the Bills O problems. If the game is won in the trenches then the Jets have the advantage. The Bills will win if Allen wears his cape.
-
Strange mindset here. I'm not saying or advocating giving opposing coaches hugs and kisses. However, pushing hatred and rudeness isn't where I think fans should gravitate too. Have at it... Based on that premise, what's your viewpoint on Von Miller's return?
-
Why the Salah hate? I don't get it. He seems to be on the same level as McD. Good motivators and weaker on the xs and os. Tough blue collar coaches.
-
That's a narrative made up in your mind. No one in their right mind who knows football would be saying the Bills aren't going to make the playoffs after losing on Monday night. Stop being ridiculous. If they go 0-2 or 0- 3 then the chatter will begin. Not after 1 loss to the Jets!
-
Often teams start out badly and it does have a bearing on their overall season. Wouldn't you agree?
-
I think the Jets will be able to establish the run which will open up things for Rodgers. Conversely, I don't think the Bills will not establish a consistent and effective run game. Making Allen more one dimensional. That secondary is solid and Williams and company will be a manice. I think the Jets out muscle and pound the softer Bills in the trenches. We will see the loss of MLB Edmunds loud and clear. The Bills will need to get a spectacular version on Allen on Monday night. That's possible but a tough task vs a hostile crowd, inspired Jets team, and a solid defense. I think this game is a tough ask for the Bills. I have less confidence in the Bills pass rush with no Von.
-
That's what concerns me. A slug feast isn't the Bills strength. I think the Jets have the physicality advantage in the trenches. Me too. On paper they look really strong. I'm not banking on Rodgers playing poorly. They have a young elite WR, Cook, Hall, and Carter might be the best RB combo in the league. Rodgers is a huge upgrade. That D looks formidable and very good. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a changing of the guard. Saleh reminds me a lot of McD. Defensive minded coach who backs up his players. A blue collar kind of guy.

You comparing the great Pats team with Buffalo? What are the similarities?
-
Hard to say if they are about the same. Both are elite and great QBs. I think Allen would have rings if the tables were reversed. Would Mahomes have one or more if he were a Bill? Not sure but it's an interesting talking point. What's clear is Mahomes is the clear cut number 1 QB in the NFL. He has the rings to prove it. Allen and the Bills are looking in the rear view mirror. KC is the team to beat for likely a decade. They are just better than the Bills for several reasons you eluded too. Last year, really proved how good KC is. They won it all with average WRs, RBs, a one legged QB, and a young secondary. It was a glowing example of a franchise team. Think NE patriots with Brady. Hopefully, the Bills can steal one from them.

I can't and won't tell you how to feel. You own your feelings. I certainly understand your perspective. As for Allen, who knows where he falls on the work ethic wheel in the arena of starting QBs? Including fitness, working on weaknesses, studying the game, etc ... Allen critics will always be around; especially, if he can't get the team to the SB and win it. IMHO, thats the standard that's placed on elite franchise QBs. Doesn't make it correct though. There's always room for improvement when it comes to any athlete. That doesn't mean someone is lacking in work ethic. Personally, I feel Allen is the overwhelming reason why the Bills have excelled over the last five years. I think it's personally fine to criticize Allen in the same mode. However, that criticism must be reasonable and backed up with articulate facts . Clearly, that hasn't been established here. As for others trolling here and fans not waiting the Bills to succeed. Who knows and frankly I could careless. What I can say with great validity is criticism of the Bills players, coaches, and management is largely not welcome. Valid or not it's mostly met with great resistance. Often bordering on unprofessionalism, rude comments, and blatant name calling. Conversely, a positive and outlandish positive outlook will be met mostly with open arms, hugs, and kisses. In short, people and that includes Bills fans will always have varying degrees of how they see things ranging from ultra optimistic to ultra pessimistic. I believe that's what makes this forum great! We can all learn from others . We can all have critical debates and discussions. I for one welcome the diversity.

That's a home tweet! Well said!

Negativity and criticism has a place on the board. To bash it often is counter productive to stimulating and valid debates back and forth. However, a criticism or positive needs to be reinforced with some legitimate reasoning, facts, stats, and opinions. I feel the original poster has failed to meet this threshold. Just my two cents

Average talent like Brady? Are you kidding me? It's pretty simple. Let me explain. You are getting lost or enamored on physical talent such as arm strength. Yes Allen is physically gifted. Yes more gifted than Brady. However, you think physical tools is the only attribute and measuring stick to QB success? Surely, you can't think that. The first few persons that come to mind are Jeff George, James Winston, and Cam Newton. Huge arms and physical talent. Now let's look at someone like Drew Breeze. Lacks huge arm strength but accuracy is off the charts. Student of the game. Bottom line is there is no magical formula for measuring success of a QB. Physical talent is extremely important but so is vision, accuracy, and lots of intangibles. Your crusade to criticize Allen and compare him to Brady is pretty disingenuous. At best, wildly inaccurate. Thanks for the laugh.
-
Brady's vision was just simply better than anyone who ever played. His will to win was off the charts so i get what you are saying. However, the QB spot is more than just wanting it and studying film. Your Brady example is far too inaccurate when it comes to comparing Allen. Brady was the best to ever play the game.
-
Come on now. Allen is not the problem. The guy is elite and the primary reason why the Bills win games and have so many consecutive playoff appearances. Your implications are pretty unfounded and your comparison to Brady isn't painting a true picture here. There are several reasons why the Bills haven't advanced further. It's not on Allen. Negative criticism isn't a bad thing so long as it's valid and backed up with legitimate facts, stats, and opinions. This original poster lacks that...

Happen to agree here. Like the Kirksey pick up but MLB position sure is problematic this year. Hard to think other quality aren't going to expose the Bills. I'm interested in seeing how McD can effectively beat quality offenses with a glaring hole in the middle. Perhaps , one of the Bills guys steps up. Let's hope so.
-
Nice post Shaw. Is the MLB position in the Bills system really depicted correctly here? Not trying to be a wise guy here. I'm not strong in the xs and os sort of speak. Many others here can absolutely give some solid input here. I'm an old school guy and thought the position was very vital. Almost like the QB of the defense. A rock and foundation piece of the D. Maybe the game's changed? In fact, Beane I believe is on the record verifying the importance of Edmunds. The Bills D was not nearly as good without Edmunds. Also, it was pretty obvious when he played well and poorly. He sure seemed to be an important piece to the D. Looking forward to what others think.

We are heading into a 12-5 season, maybe better.

I think you are really going out on a limb to paint the Bills and Allen as victims. Allen is a top tier franchise QB. No one disputes that and his importance to the Bills success. However, it is fair to say Allen turns over the ball too much. He's a gunslinger and takes chances. Think Farve and the same criticism existed. Higher risk and higher reward. There has to be a balance and Allen with time is likely to get better with the turnovers. Especially, if he has more weapons, a better oline, a reliable running game, and nice play calling. Unfortunately, the game is often measured and quantified by how many rings you get. Mahomes might be in a path to challenge Beady and Burrow whose less physically talented than Allen already beat the Bills. He's already sniffed a SB. Allen will always have his critics until he gets a ring or at least makes a SB appearance. I mean look at two hall if framers Kelly and Marino. Just could get it done but both are legends of the game. After highly successful years the experts can and do evaluate careers. Just hope Allen doesn't fall into this category. -

I really don't think the Bills are flying under the radar. Sure they aren't the darlings they were starting last season. Nevertheless, Vegas I believe has them in the top 5 or so odds to win it all. Almost everyone would agree the Bills are at least top 5 in the AFC and capable of winning it all. Frankly, I don't think the hype last year hurt the Bills. Similarly, I don't think less hype this year will help much either. These guys are professionals and able to block out much of the noise. You hear tine after time how they focus on one game at a time. In short, I just don't see this flying under the angle thesis. Vice versa... -
Very well stated. I agree with most of what you said. For what it's worth, elite or not, I think it's reasonable to say that KC and Cincy have to be ranked higher than the Bills. They have gotten it done and beat the Bills in big playoff games. They have been out coached by quite a bit too. This is a new year and a new slate. So yes the Bills are right there and clearly in the discussion for a Lombardi. Detractors will become louder and louder if the Bills continue to not get it done playoff time.
-
A few things here. The Bills aren't a lock to make the playoffs. Sure it's likely and I'd be disappointed and very surprised if they don't. However, there isn't a huge separation in the division. The Bills also have to play KC, Cincinnati, and Philly. Many variables like injuries could certainly derail a playoff bid. I'd be very surprised if the Bills win 13 or 14 games. Of course, it's possible but it sure seems overly optimistic to me. 10-7 is definitely in play in my mind. 9-8 is probably the floor. We will find out soon enough. "whether this coaching staff can get them over the hump once they get there." I get that perspective. Partly true but I'd add can the coaches not get in the way of the players? No McD fan here when it comes playoff time. The Bills coaches staff has to prove a lot going forward.

Everything isn't all negative in Bills land. I remain skeptical on several fronts; but the beginning of each new season brings renewed hope and optimism especially with a healthy number 17. The Bills aren't far away from achieving their goal of a SB. It just seems so far away at the same time. The last few early playoffs exits don't make things easier. Go Bills! To be honest I'm not a great fan of the show either. However, I did think several on the panel brought up some legit points. Some were pretty far off too. It was worth a watch in my eyes.
