I mean a lot of these qb runs you guys are talking about are improvisations where no one is open so those two types of running kind of go hand in hand. I think a lot of defensive coordinators around the league are wishing some of you guys ran our team 😂 so much of the defenses resources goes into trying to keep josh in the pocket that it opens up all kinds of other plays Ok so we’ve got a common ground here lol long term I don’t think that is the plan. Cap reduced year though and it was not really feasible to try to rebuild the offensive and defensive lines in this same offseason. We went after dline and I doubt we expected the offensive line to regress this badly when we had so much continuity. I think the current setup we have has performed much better so I have some confidence going forward. We ran well when the opposing defense knew it was coming to close out the last 3 or 4 games that is usually a good sign. You’re paying a guy a quarter billion dollars to mask some of the deficiencies in the roster and he has done that for sure

Week 18: Jets at Bills - a W wins the AFC East!

I just asked the same question in another thread lol it just puts too much pressure on a defense to remove those kind of plays especially in the short term. -
Bruce arians is a clown…if you have the best pass protection in the nfl then sitting in the pocket becomes much more dangerous…and he’s gonna sit in his ivory tower and criticize the 31 teams that don’t have that for risking injuries lol what a joke. My point is that this year we’re in the playoffs and the afc field is wide open…do you really want to take those designed qb runs out of the playbook now just because josh Allen might get injured? Long term of course offensive line/running game will be a focus I’m not saying to ignore that. I think singletary has been criminally underrated this season as well cuz people are just obsessed with yardage totals per game…dude has ripped off some nice runs every single week and he’s 12th in ypc
-
To be fair our offensive line was horrendous most of the year and we weren’t successful doing much of anything 🤣 it’s just such a catch 22…you want josh to stop doing things that help the team and give defensive coordinators headaches because if he gets hurt and Mitch trubisky comes in he can’t do the things that you wanted josh to stop doing lol
-
Confining him to the pocket all season this year would’ve been infinitely more dangerous…our offensive line was terrible for most of the year but seems to be playing well as of late. If every year you’re gonna throw successful plays that make your offense more dynamic out the window to protect your guys health when do you go all in to win a Superbowl…I just don’t get that logic but to each their own. If he gets seriously injured from a designed run you can track me down and tell me you were right and I will agree but for now it is just puzzling to me. Guys get destroyed in the pocket all the time also Lol it isn’t even you it’s pff 😂 kind of embarrassing that that’s your evidence honestly. I’m not trying to say he’s excellent but you’re gonna see a much different and more successful defensive scheme if we see the colts again
-
Well my real argument is edmunds is not as terrible as you say…but it is a scheme issue. We did not have the guys available to successfully add LBs that game and we just sat in the nickel all game long. Its irrelevant if edmunds is ‘bad’, inserting him at mlb then kicking Klein over as an extra linebacker would’ve been immensely more successful
-
Just as likely if not more likely your qb gets hurt taking a shot in the pocket. It just isn’t worth bubble wrapping the generational talent we have imo. If teams know we are not gonna draw up any qb runs it simplifies the defensive gameplan immensely…we will lose a must win game long before josh is injured.

Raiders are probably a 10 point underdog in that hypothetical matchup… I just don’t see the pats winning decisively either they could certainly sneak out a one score victory but they had to go 5 for 5 going for it on 4th down all game long and we had to drop 2 TD passes and have our rb tackle himself on the 1 yard line for the pats to even be in the neighborhood of making that game competitive. They were completely outmatched talent wise and we were missing a bunch of weapons. Really felt like they pulled out all the stops in that one and still came up considerably short. Idk why a team like the colts would worry about the pats…colts are a very similarly built team that is just better than the pats at their own game. Colts should really be worried about chiefs/bills/bengals who could jump on them early. Obviously don’t blame them for not being afraid of us specifically as they beat us up in the regular season but I think we will be the favorite in that game regardless of where it’s played. We’ll definitely be an underdog against the chiefs in kc and a full strength titans team but that’s pretty much it

Lol yea it’s definitely way more offensive line dependent than weather dependent. Falcons game is a bit of an outlier with good offensive line performance and a bad performance from the qb as 2 of those picks really were the right decision and looked reasonably well thrown we just got unlucky with a tipped pass and clueless refs 😂
-
Some of the rushing defenses supposed struggles I think are getting a bit blown out of proportion by seeing the pats twice in a short time frame who were essentially running a goal line offense a majority of both games. I think we did a better job against them in the rematch but just needed to make one or two 4th down stops…they were a rather preposterous 5/5 on 4th down besides a late Hail Mary. Colts game losing edmunds really hurt because Klein had a very rough day and we likely would’ve been rolling with more LBers if edmunds was healthy

Newest oline configuration seems like it’s having a lot of success though. Those games that happened months ago aren’t super relevant anymore. Jags game we were an absolute mess Covid wise in the trenches too. Idk it’s tough to judge…this has been a very strange season. Feels like we have been as competitive as anyone against the real elite teams and haven’t looked very sharp against some average teams.

Marvin got bounced in the first round like every year didnt he? If we didn’t go to the afc championship last year I think McDermott would be on a bit tighter of a leash if we don’t do much this year

We are quietly just outside the top 5 in rushing offense. Singletary is 12th in the league in ypc. I guess this is gonna be my daily thread of asking the question ‘why do qb rushing yards not count?’ It’s even more difficult for defenses to prepare for than handing the ball off to a rb because there’s oftentimes an extra blocker. I just don’t understand what football games some of y’all are watching that complain about our rushing offense. Even the most potent teams at running the football have plenty of runs go for no gain or a short gain. There is no team ripping off 5+ yard carries a majority of the time…josh Allen really is the closest thing to that. Someone like Johnathan Taylor even is averaging 5+ but it is not a consistent 5 yards you get a lot of 1-2 yards and a cloud of dust offset by breaking big runs eventually.

Ideal playoff time slot?

I’m thinking this is mostly a coincidence but I give you permission to blame me exclusively if I’m wrong 😂 -

Yes you guys are right on…you get to inflict the pain when you’re running full speed. Much more of a risk in the pocket imo…anyone wanting to wrap josh in a bubble in the pocket even if our offensive line improves are drastically hurting what makes our offense dangerous. -
WFT to have new name and logo on Feb. 2nd

Gonna be the commanders final answer -
Haha we can go back and check the weather and I feel like this is gonna be very incorrect 😂 most years I’m thinking man does the nfl control the weather how does it never rain on sundays lol
-
I think we are overly critical of our players…just on the ‘players that didn’t really work out front’…dline is doing its job and has only looked average to me against the top tier offensive lines

Career-worst single-game passer rating

We really have been more competitive against top talent than ever before. sure we flubbed the jags and colts game…I think we got hit injuries/Covid in just the complete wrong places in those games…but against the real elite teams we have either won or been right there or have gotten screwed (bucs game lol) seems like years past maybe our upset threshold is a little lower but the real great teams handled us without much trouble I wish there was a better way to quantify how qbs perform in meaningful situations…a lot of these high level guys were comparing josh to really beat up on bad teams and struggle just as much as josh does. Josh has been pulled pretty early in quite a few games this year where he could’ve been out there padding stats. The stat sheet really favors qbs with mediocre defenses that frequently find themselves in shootouts and that just hasn’t happened in like any of our wins -
Still can’t believe the jets lost that one lol that had a very tank-y feeling to it. I still don’t know what the jets beating the titans and potentially bucs missing pretty much all their skill position guys really proves though. That’s not a true upset in my mind. I’m sure there’s some true upset examples this season but a lot of these odd losses have been Covid/injury related
-
I mean….pats defense forced 0 punts and the only stop you got was our rb tackling himself on the goal line lol hard to believe you would’ve won that game even given a handful of hypotheticals in just your favor. I’m not saying the pats should feel like it’s a David and Goliath type playoff matchup cuz the bills are capable of just about anything good or bad…but that second matchup really looked like the pats were completely outmatched personnel wise. I don’t think the pats gameplan is really prone to blowing out a playoff caliber team without a rash of injuries so I severely doubt you blow us out in matchup one but I could definitely envision a game where the pats don’t blow that special teams play and win that one by two scores. Bills missed a ton of chances that game too though so that’s another one where I think hypothetical world favors the bills. I’m still shocked bass missed that short fg with how well struck it looked despite being into the wind. Then you have diggs getting bonked in the arm with a sure td…Knox dropping like 4 balls despite looking fantastic every other week of the year. Breidas comically bad fumble (that one kind of offsets with the pats ST play in my mind).
