Yeah it's always hard to tell with short jumps, but one of two things is true... A - With only 1 first round player left as he claimed Beane got itchy and has paper hands, jumped up to get his guy. B - They legitimately think very highly of this kid not just as a typical first rounder and had info they considered potentially true that Dallas or another team (via trade) would take him. Either way they gave up a 4th, ho hum. If he pans out and becomes a good starter no one cares.

Diggs Extended 4 more years breaking news per WGR 550
ArtVandalay replied to BillsPride12's topic in The Stadium Wall
With 1 extra game this past year he had 24 less catches and 310 less yards. He produced 96 yards per game in 20 and 72 yards per game in 21... a 24 yard per game decrease... Obviously still productive but that is the decline in production that was referenced. No, it's called reading. In fact a quick Google search can return you results for that basic information you quoted. Seems a few posters are entirely unaware of typical career arcs. Yes the age of prime and decline is younger than what your grandpa told you. We have plenty of data, review it, use it. -
Long term CB is a position of need by the time Elam is mid-prime Tre will most likely be in full decline. They will work great together for several years in the meantime as long as Elam comes up to speed efficiently. If Elam fully blossoms his big deal will come on after Tre's is reduced hopefully. As for the player, kid has size and speed, very different from the undersized or non-high end athletic guys Beane typically goes for. So I like this from that aspect. Don't know enough about his playing ability to make a call on that but his production in the SEC looks great. In today's NFL can't have enough corners and I like we are staggering the ages of these guys on the roster. We need an RB upgrade but it doesn't need to be Rd 1... Walker or Hall Rd 2, let's go.

Don't feel bad for me, feel bad you are unaware of when physical peak is for athletes. A quick Google search will show you this, especially for explosion and quick twitch muscles. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.pro-football-reference.com/articles/des.htm%23:~:text%3DFrom%2026%20to%2028%2C%20they,5%2D100er%20year%20after%20that.&ved=2ahUKEwj9tNuYpLL3AhV8lYkEHTFTCLYQFnoECAoQBQ&usg=AOvVaw177lDrsZsjoSiEmyHTeU46 https://builtforathletes.com/blogs/news/what-age-do-athletes-peak You cherry picked a few outliers from players that were 10-20 years ago that were far more productive than Diggs and completely ignore Diggs massive production fall off this year. Still completely ignore recent data that's been handed to you. You are betting on Diggs to be an outlier when he is coming off a year with a drop off in production. You're ignoring massive risk. The odds are not in Diggs favor the least bit and his recent trend isn't either. Not smart. -

He's already in physical decline. Peak is 25-27. Production wise there was a huge drop off from last year. What I find comical is people ignoring the history of evidence against 30 year old WRs lol, I mean come on be serious. If he's producing 1000+ yards 100+ catches into his 30s he's an outlier. You would need your head in the sand to not have concerns about this. -
RB Isaiah Spiller jumps in and saves baggage
ArtVandalay replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
Spiller 4.63 40, and looks just as slow, runs weak... exactly what Beane looks for except he's not undersized. The fact he's getting one of the visits is a joke. Please no. -
Diggs Extended 4 more years breaking news per WGR 550
ArtVandalay replied to BillsPride12's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well I didn't say of that... I mean you play out the final two years, if he refuses to play he doesn't have much choice with the new CBA rules, and if you need to you trade him, like KC just did with Hill. This won't be a problem until 2 years down the road, next year will be fine is 2, 3, 4 years later this hurts most likely. The fact is the team has options other than back up the truck and dump money in his lap. -

I'm not comparing Diggs to Julio, he is just the most notable recent example. But if you need to go back 15 years to find a guy that produces post-30 at WR that's not helping your case... also Harrison was so much better than Diggs and so much more insanely productive, Diggs has never sniffed him. Like I said, only 3 WR in the NFL age 30+ had 700 yards and the top was 848 by AJ Green. Sorry, but track record of 30+ guys is poor. We had him locked up through 30 already. -

ArtVandalay replied to BillsPride12's topic in The Stadium Wall
Play out the final two years of the deal and move on. Yes I know you hate to hear it and we all love Diggs now but the odds of him producing post 30 are dramatically against him. Last year only 3 WR age 30+ had 700 yards. None had 900, AJ Green with 848 was the leader. Just look at how Julio Jones evaporated the past couple years. Handing out contracts like this as a losing football team is easy. But as a winning team with a Mets contract at QB to compete year in and year out you need to make cut throat decisions based on logic and likelihood not emotional attachment to players. With this reported contract and reported outs he's going to be on the books minimum through age 31, and most likely through age 32. That's 2-3 years past likely useful life. Maybe he stays healthy and produces age 30. This contract is most likely paying for past performance, not future. Physically he's already peaked, age 25-27 is the typical physical peak. This past year he had 24 less catches with 1 more game and had 23.8 less yards per game. His catch rate was down 13% from 75% to 62%. Then we drop mega money on him. I'm not concerned about next year, I'm concerned about 2 years from now and out. -

I love Diggs, but absolutely hate this. WR are often injured and severely less effective after age 30. We already had him locked up through 30. We just extended him into what is most likely non-useful life. This is going to hurt big time as early as next year, unless he's an exception to the rule. Allen is going to have a lot of different WRs over his career. This is an over-commitment. Winning teamswith highly paid QBs inevitably need to make very tough and unpopular decisions with aging star talent. This will pacify fans, but has a high likelihood of hindering success in the long haul. It's the easy choice with little criticism, not the difficult choice with greater success.- 658 replies

NFL Arrests since 2000 (Bills #26)
ArtVandalay replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good thing these guys are teaching America morals now... Well Aaron Hernandez murdered a few people... DeShawn Watson is a serial abuser and wasn't arrested at all. At least Rex Ryan just likes playing with his wife's tootsies 😆 -
Zack Moss has virtually zero value. And yes, we all dream of Edmunds being dumped... But two options a little different then mentioned that I think are the best suspects due to their impending free agency and return value... I would not be the slightest but surprised if we dealt Singletary. He will have more value than Mosas and he is an impending FA we are not going to retain. Another surprise candidate might be Dawson Knox. If management has a sense of the money he wants in FA and how TEs can be overpaid, they might have signed Howard to move on from Knox and get a return before he leaves in Free Agency. Remember you need to give something of value to get something. No one wants Epenesa or Cody Ford.

Good one Night Hawk

That's alright, he's not good anymore.

To be honest, I think that is the perfect compromise. Still have the outdoor home field advantage and the elements, fans have some protection from elements including heat.

This is ridiculous, no goal posts and painted like a soccer field???

It's comments like this that I appreciate for Government accountability (which is virtually non-existent), however, there is also a severe lack of understanding as to why these stadium deals work. Now, I don't know the specifics on this deal I haven't reviewed the figures for myself but generally speaking these deals provide net gain from revenue generation. The amount of jobs created and tax revenues collected from the team payrolls and economic activity, these deals end up being a net gain. There's a difference between expenses that generate revenue such exceed said expense, and expenses that do not generate revenue. Also the said "cut" means OCFS will receive $3.7 Billion instead of $4.5 Billion in funding.... and this "cut" is actually a RETURN to pre-pandemic levels after the budget was elevated in the pandemic. The last budget contained $2.3 Billion of stimulus funds, $1.25 Billion for stabilization grants to keep child care providers opened. The one time stimulus and support was temporary and one time, not meant to be a continual investment although you knew people would attempt to. Financial literacy in this country is in the toilet.

If you don't have WR drama, then you don't have any good WRs on your roster.
-
Can't? Or didn't in college? Regardless, pass catching backs are a dime a dozen, guys with high end athletic ability paired with running ability with speed and power are not. Our offenses biggest weakness is an absolutely inability to run the ball and it wasn't just line play,we completely lack explosiveness at the RB position. We need a legit RB option with explosiveness, power, ability to drive the legs and get tough yards while being able to pop a big play. All around 3 down banks with explosion and size are so rare... so I would be very happy with Hall in round 1 with where we are drafting, or trade down to top of round 2 and take him... I'd be very happy with Walker III as well... either would be a monster upgrade to the offense and add a dimension we just flat out don't have on the roster.

You realize it's a team game, right?
