Crazy how many fumbles most of those guys have. Would never have guessed OJ had basically as many fumbles as TDs in his career. Probably because his gloves were the wrong size. Running QBs still get hit in the pocket. Then they run and take more hits.

Josh in a boot after Tampa game (now says he's "good to go", no effects)
Billl replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t understand this line of reasoning. Yes, a QB can get hurt in the pocket but that doesn’t mean it’s smart to subject him to hits running the ball as well. This isn’t an either/or proposition. QBs who run are still subject to being hit when dropping back to pass. The hits they take when running are IN ADDITION to the hits they take in the pocket. Lamar is hurt again. Murray has been hurt. Allen is in a boot. Cam is a shell of himself. There’s a real pattern of running QBs sustaining injuries. Every hit you take makes it that much more likely that you’ll eventually get the big one and even if you don’t, the little ones add up over time. -
Yep. A win tomorrow and the conversation becomes “the Bills have beaten both Super Bowl teams from last year”.

If the argument is that he’s a perfectly good player, your point makes sense. The poster I responded to is saying that 4 seasons isn’t an unreasonable amount of time for a player to learn the position. If that’s the case, then why use a pick on someone like that? -

If it takes 4 years to learn how to play MLB then don’t draft a guy to play MLB if he doesn’t already know how. If you’re taking a MLB in the top half of the first round, he should be ready to go day one. That is a premium pick to spend on a player at a non-premium position to begin with. If he’s not ready until his second contract then what’s the point? -

I don’t think Beane sees the position as a need. Given that the plan was to trade out of the spot if Basham was gone, Humphrey was never even a consideration. The only alternative is that he thought Humphrey sucked in which case I have no idea what their evaluation process looks like. -

I'm being pedantic, but I'd say he's more great than solid. He's the middle infielder who makes the spectacular play but leads the league in errors. That just doesn't play, IMO. Give me a MLB who you can set your watch by, and I can gameplan around that. I just don't know how you plan a defense around a guy who is a wildcard. -

He's been around for nearly 4 seasons as well. I can't think of many great LBs who didn't figure it out until their second contract. MLBs especially need to have great instincts. The idea of developing instincts is a a bit paradoxical. -

This is what makes the Basham pick so strange to me (and I really liked him coming out of the draft). I understand going DE even after drafting Epenesa a year ago. I also understand not reaching to fill needs. That said, Beane went DE in the first and the best C in the draft fell right into his lap. When the best player available also happens to be a huge position of need, you RUN to the podium. Supposedly they were even going to trade the pick if Basham hadn't been available. The Chiefs have been feasting on players the Bills should have drafted. Creed seemed like such an obvious pick for Buffalo that I half expected Kansas City to trade ahead of them. Meanwhile, Basham will be a 24 year old rookie next week who still has never started a game. When McBeane took over, they had a very clear vision and they executed the plan beautifully. I have no idea what the plan is now, though. There's talent, but the roster as a whole has some serious issues. -

Cousins has hung him out to dry on multiple occasions tonight. He’s going to get JJ killed. You can make a case that Diggs is a better WR, but Jefferson is clearly having the better season. It’s better than any season Diggs has ever had. -

All of it. The fifth year option they picked up is guaranteed. -
What other bad weather NFL games has Josh played in? I remember home against Kansas City last year was a struggle in heavy rain.

You think someone is giving up a first round pick for the right to pay Edmunds $13,000,000? Beane will be lucky if he can find anyone to take him without throwing in a pick as part of a salary dump. -

Dodson is the OLB. He took on the block and forced the run back to the middle where he should have had a MLB waiting. Joke’s on him though. That MLB was hopelessly lost running ever further out of position. Dodson is the OLB. He took on the block and forced the run back to the middle where he should have had a MLB waiting. The main reason we are a 7-5 team and not a 10-2 one at this time.

Are Diggs and Bass in the club? Is Knox in the club? Obviously Breida is in the club. -
WTF? Dodson was the only person on the field who didn’t blow their assignment. Epenesa ran himself out of the play completely giving up the edge. Dodson took on the FB and forced the play into Edmunds’s gap. Edmunds ran clear past his gap. Milano took a terrible angle, and then the Safety (Hyde IIRC) was nowhere to be found. It looked like a Chinese fire drill. It’s possible that Epenesa was supposed to dive to the inside and Hyde was going to back fill the edge. That would have been fine had Edmunds not hit the wrong gap. The more I think about it, this seems the most likely explanation.

How much more should they have passed? They called something like 35 pass plays and 22 runs in a windstorm. When you count the sacks and scrambles it wound up being 30 passes, 25 runs, and 2 sacks. The notion around here that the run/pass balance was out of whack is a complete fabrication.
