Arguably the biggest yikes in TBD history. -
So why was Amari Cooper traded twice in his prime?

He is 3 months removed from saying he would welcome a trade on social media. What? -
So why was Amari Cooper traded twice in his prime?
FireChans replied to PoundingDog's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean, making social media posts in the offseason about wanting to be traded IS malcontent behavior. It’s Stefon Diggs-like behavior, right? That’s basically what he did, right? If a Bills player next AUGUST, is tweeting “I wouldn’t mind a trade,” would that raise your eyebrows? I mean that’s on the doorstep of the season. What if that Bill had already been traded two times prior? Nothing to see here? Not malcontent behavior? Thats the parallel to Diggs. Maybe Cooper is a model citizen and a victim of the salary cap and being closer to the 20th best WR than the 5th has made teams dump him. Maybe he’s not perfect and has used what leverage he has to get off teams he doesn’t want to be on, or to get better contracts. Even if he has, who cares? I don’t know. It’s not hate to understand that most guys don’t play for 4 teams. I don’t even care if Cooper becomes a problem a year or two from now, because he’s trying to get more money. That’s his prerogative. The real problem is fans seeing guys like Diggs or Cooper float around from team to team as mercenaries, and then start thinking they are gonna be different in Buffalo, and they are gonna buy a house next to Josh’s and raise their family for 40 years here. “Diggs would never pull the same Vikings playbook in Buffalo!” Of course, he did. ”Cooper would never make social media posts about wanting to leave the team now that he’s in Buffalo” Of course, he could. If his money’s not right or he’s not happy, it’s totally on the board. So yeah, no hate. Just no expectations either. If Cooper is happy a Bill and plays here for 3 years and has no issues, awesome. If he gets a 2 year extension and then starts acting out a bit when his deal is coming to an end because he’s looking for another payday, I won’t be surprised and hurt and shocked. Sounds like some of you will be though, just like some of you are still so shocked and hurt about Diggs. -

You are getting very emotional. It’s not hate at all. The word out of Cleveland was that Amari wanted out. https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/unhappy-in-cleveland-browns-star-wide-receiver-amari-cooper-sounds-open-to-trade-01j4x2sbt5ph He wanted to be traded for Aiyuk. He commented on instagram that he wouldn’t mind being traded lol. So zero zilch nada? 👎 -
So why was Amari Cooper traded twice in his prime?

There’s lots of reasons. Lots of reasons could be culture, attitude, contract etc etc. The guys you referenced, like Brandon Marshall, Randy Moss, were traded in large part due to their attitudes. That’s kind of the point. We all accept they were basically locker room malcontents. Do we have solid facts? Were we in the building? No. I don’t know if Amari is or isn’t. What I do know is that it’s unusual for a player of his caliber to play for 4 teams before 30. This is no different than folks screaming there’s no way Diggs could be a problem and force his way out of Buffalo lol. If Amari is great here, great. Would it surprise me if he’s playing elsewhere in 2026? No. -

Your assumption is that…. Gruden wanted to trade Amari for no reason. Gruden leaked damaging, untruths about Amari to the media, potentially harming his value right before he traded him…. because Gruden is just a bad guy. (Also zero evidence it was Gruden, but while we’re taking leaps let’s do it lol) Dallas traded for Amari for a first, paid him, then dumped him for a fifth a few years later. For no reason. Cleveland traded for Amari, paid him, then dumped him for a third a few years later. For no reason. And none of this means anything. lol. -

Extremely L take. guy has been on 4 teams now by 30 years old. We can all agree he’s a good player, so he probably hasn’t just been traded because of his talent. You have zero evidence the OPs claims are wrong. Unsubstantiated with ironclad proof? Sure. False? You don’t know enough to even call them false. There’s an article questioning Cooper’s football character that you handwaved away. Yeah, maybe Gruden was floating bad media stories to uh lower his trade value before they traded him? Is it gospel? No. But what evidence do you have besides “na na na that doesn’t count?” Cooper wouldn’t be the first NFL player or even star who treats football like a job. It’s not an indictment on the man. -
I guess this was supposed to quote me? “Happy or not isn’t relevant” but you just said: Is being happy relevant or no? I’m just saying, when we came to camp, our two weakest position groups to my eye were WR and safety. During the season, our two weakest position groups to my eye were WR and safety. Despite the Bills spending a second round pick in both groups. I was gaslit for months that the WR’s were fine and the Bills were happy at WR, then Brandon Beane called about every WR on the market and made a trade for a 30 year old guy to desperately upgrade the position. Again, something that was obvious in JULY. So yeah. I think the safety room is not good. I think Rapp has been better than Hamlin, but I don’t think Rapp is very good and I think Hamlin is bad. I think the Bills know this because they are petrified to run any single high, which indicates the level of trust in their safeties. Will the Bills make a move? I don’t know. What I do know is if Bishop had taken the job by now, would I feel better about the safety room? Yes. I also feel that if Bishop had taken the starting job, the Bills would feel better about that group as well. I don’t think the Bills took Bishop that high to be a starter in 2025 at the earliest. Maybe they did, but the point stands that that doesn’t help us in 2024.
-
By this logic, they would have been happy with the WR group even if Coleman wasn’t able to start. We all know that’s not true. They weren’t happy with the group even with their high draft pick playing right away. There’s still plenty of time for Bishop but I don’t think they drafted him thinking he wouldn’t be able to crack the starting lineup early.
-
They were so happy with their safety group in April that they punted on selecting a WR in the first so they could ensure they grabbed a safety in the second round. Watch how many times they let Hamlin play centerfield and see how high their opinion is.

The offense will never score but have great advanced stats. -
Okay. I would go as far as to say, despite Hamlin having more picks than Hyde and Poyer in 2023 (lol) he has not been good. In fact, I think the 2023 versions of those old washed dudes (now one retired, the other basically retired collecting one last paycheck) were far better than what Hamlin has put on tape his whole career, including this year. Hamlin is probably the weakest player on the defense. You can make an argument for Williams but I think he’s played better. He is a liability because he is arguably the worst player out there, he’s slow, he takes bad angles, and he’s constantly late or out of position. He’s playing better than he did in 2022, so I’ll give him credit there. He’s still a weakness on this roster. So much so that the coaching staff is petrified to let him play single high because they do not trust him or Rapp to be the last line of defense. Bishop not relegating this dude to the bench by like week 2 of TC is the real problem. Bishop in spot duty was actually kind of atrocious. So I don’t know the argument there? Is it possible that Hamlin is bad, but the least bad? Sure. He’s still bad.

Man, we are really singing the dudes praises for an airmailed pass into his chest and a tipped ball play made by the best DB on the team.

Their EPA/play is gonna look so much better when they go winless the rest of the year. -
Trade strategies for need positions at deadline

Yeah that’s fine when they are good players. Cost-controlled crummy players aren’t worth it, and the large majority of them are. -

I’m all on taking swings on talent, particularly for draft picks. draft picks are sooooo overrated. -
No. I kinda liked the idea, but the Ravens need a power RB to keep the ball out of Lamar’s hands a bit and get them into loaded boxes. The Bills don’t need that as much, they needed somebody to win outside and keep the ball in Josh’s hands as much as possible. I think James Cook has more value to the Bills today than Henry.
-
Because despite all of that, Stafford is much better QB and we all know that?
-
But we did trade for Cooper lol
-
Yeah I don’t agree. Kelce in particular was clearing holding back his second gear in regular season because he’s 100 years old and can’t play at that level for 20 games.
-
About the same thing it said about Coleman, that we had to bring in Quintus Cephus, MVS, and now Amari Cooper. “not good enough to be your entire WR group”
-
The Titans don’t care if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.
-
The Patriots and Chiefs dynasties have both had their share of struggles/vulnerabilities in the regular season, and turned back into juggernauts for their SB runs. It happened last year lol.

I don't even find them maddening any more. Outside of catastrophic injuries, we have entered "wake me up in the divisional round" mode.
