Yeah he is. He was also kinda red shirted. Most teams expect their day 1 and early day 2 picks to play and contribute immediately. I mean, we are drafting guys to start at the end of the first round. Why would teams picking 6-10 slots later think, “this guy needs a year to figure it out.”

Who do you want that is reasonably available? Would you rather have players that aren’t good instead of injury risk players that are very good? I don’t understand, truly.

Outside of a star pass rusher (who may or may not be available) I think Olave increases our SB odds the most the second he is traded to us. Combined with his injury risk, he may be the most realistic best upgrade available. It’s not without some risk, but I’m in the “nothing ventured nothing gained,” camp

I also still somehow think DJ Moore is available. He's been a round peg in a square hole basically his entire time in Chicago and I'm not sure they love him there. Now his salary is a bit tougher to get around at $20M, so prorated without us ripping up his deal, he would still be expensive from cap perspective. But at 28 and expensive, he may be closer to mid round pick and some stuff in trade comp.

He has not signed an extension despite being extension eligible. Which means he's gettable. The Saints may not be sure to pay him with his concussion history. Olave may not be sure to re-sign with the Saints because they are a trash can. Who knows. What we do know is that Garrett Wilson and Jamo, both in his draft class, have gotten extended already. Wilson got $32MAAV and Jamo got $26M. Have to assume Olave will want that ball park. His salary for 2025 is also quite light. The Bills would be on the hook for mostly his salary as the Saints only save about $3.3M on trading him but likely less with prorated games. Now, what does a 1k yard receiver with a concussion history and a pending massive contract cost? Maybe the DK Metcalf package? a 2nd plus? I'd do that in 2 seconds.

Which means we may need to open a roster spot by trading a running back for a late round pick?

Unless we are running 6 DL packages, we aren't getting two defensive starters around the deadline. Larry O and Hoecht aren't starting over the other guys, they will be rotational pieces.

Yeah, my guess is the Bills don’t remain next to worst in the league in rushing defense for the whole season the further we get out from that Derrick Henry game, just like they don’t remain first in passing defense the whole season the further we get out of the QB murderer’s row of Tua, Rattler and Fields.

They used to say this about the Eagles too and the Eagles just built an extremely talented roster. I’m betting that following consensus picks in rounds 1-3 works as long term strategy at least as well as following your own scouts tbh.
