Can someone explain to me why Asante Samuel is still an FA?

Dalton Kincaid- why so underwhelming this season?
FireChans replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
I actually did. ”of mediocre or inferior quality” yeah, compared to Josh, McD, Beane, and the overall roster are of inferior quality. thanks for playing. -
Seeing as we don’t know the second, we can’t really speculate on the first lol. That’s the point.

Has Cook talked himself OFF the Bills for 2025
FireChans replied to DeepPass's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wouldn’t do that either but you’re right they might. It’s hard to decide these things in a vacuum because we don’t operate in a vacuum. If they are gonna trade Cook for a 3rd and then use 2 2nds on running backs to replace him, well I hate that plan lol. But on its face, I don’t pay Cook $15M and I am a Cook fan. I realize he is the only guy other than Josh with pop on offense. I value him, I just can’t value him there. -

I’m ready to let him walk because I think he’s gonna hold out until he gets $15M AAV and I wouldn’t pay him that. -

The Bills used a second to get Cook, and got 3 cheap years out of him. are you under the impression that trading him for a third would be bad value? -

I just didn’t want to get into a dictionary battle. Which looking back, looks like the right play. I still believe that Josh Allen is a better QB than our HC is among HCs, our GM is among GM’s, and our roster is among the rest of the NFL. They are all inferior to Josh. Because Josh is the best. And none of the rest of them are close to the best. You wanna say that doesn’t qualify for the definition of “second rate” have at it lol. -
They weren’t the highest scoring offense in the league. Also, Josh Allen stat.

This will not be a popular opinion but is a correct one. -
Let’s go player by player by cap hit. Offense: Josh Dawkins Knox McGovern Samuel Brown What conclusion do you draw from that list?

AFC Championship Game- How do you feel now about it?
FireChans replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
You need it all though. Dominant DL and a back 7 that can hold up for 2-3 seconds and get him off his first/second read. I know the Eagles had a tremendous defensive line performance, but their DBs and LBs deserve a lot of shine. Baun was an All-Pro all year including in the SB. Dejean and Mitchell were excellent. Their safeties are pretty good. Put it another way, if you exchanged our DL for the Eagles, I don't think we have the same performance. Do we do a bit better? Probably. Does Mahomes still successfully pick on Elam and Bishop and Hamlin all game? Also, probably. -
Friendly reminder some folks tried to argue Hamlin was good and that the advanced metrics on this safety group were excellent and then Hamlin signed a 1 year near league minimum deal.

Groundhog Day. -
If that was their hope, they wouldn’t or shouldn’t have drafted him at 10
-
Literally nothing has changed outside of a single injury.
-
He was talented enough for them to draft him. If they loved JJ enough to take him top 10 last year but have already fallen out of love with him, they are complete jokes. IMO.

Um Beane tried to trade up to 5 then traded up to 7. -
Also it's like the... worst FA strategy ever ha. Sandbagged and dogged it for FA? Where he's ostensibly trying to get what might be the last contract of his career? Even Stef knew to be a good soldier in Houston for a chance at one last payday.

I find that interesting but bad teams gonna bad team

The larger point is the failure to find impact players with those high picks. The Bills would’ve been better off trading that first for Metcalf instead of trading back. -
FWIW, Rousseau’s 8 game stretch with healthy Von in 2022. 5 sacks, 7 TFL’s, 9 QB hits. On 17 game pace for 10.6 sacks, 15 TFLs and 19 QB hits.

To be fair, that’s kind of how it’s always been, right? I mean sure there would be one or two big names that would be available occasionally. But it’s not like a decade ago, every year there was a Mario Williams type player who was hitting FA. That was unusual. I think players have learned from the NBA. Get paid first, figure it out later. Now in the NBA there’s real financial incentive to sign with your team that drafted you because of the way supermaxes work, but with the amount of injuries in the NFL, it also makes sense to protect yourself. DK got paid and demanded a trade and got paid again. AJ Brown flirts with demanding a trade every 2 years it seems until they throw money at him. Does anyone think that Myles Garrett won’t demand a trade 2 years from now if he wants because he got paid this year? I don’t. I could easily see him bank another $80M and run the same playbook he did this offseason.

The fun thing about the Watson contract is not the dollar amount, it’s the guarantee/restructure magic that has him as an $81M cap hit in 2026 and $53M in 2027 (after his contract expires). -

What is mortgaging the future? We just won 13 games and went to the AFCCG with massive dead money and our top 3 picks being rotational pieces. Do you think if we had traded the Coleman and Bishop picks for a superstar player, our record would’ve been worse or better? Do you think if we didn’t pay $40M for Diggs to not play here and used that money to pay a superstar, our record would’ve been worse or better? Last year showed us it’s basically impossible to mortgage our future without trading every draft pick for 3 years. Least talented team in years, worst defense in years, least contribution from rookie class in years and we lost in the AFCCG. That’s the floor. -
Some personality disorder traits in there for sure. But that’s a lot of star WR’s. Some borderline, some narcissism, some histrionic. A need to be liked, splitting between this is the best ever and this is the worst ever, etc etc.
