  1. Daboll seemed to do a good job. The book is certainly still out with Dorsey and Brady. To say either of those guys is good or bad is a crap shoot. They have less years being an OC than Reid does as HC of KC and Allen's improvisation has been a huge % of our offense.
  2. McD carried Reids belongings in KC until he eventually got a shot to coach as an assistant with Jim Johnson. He has literally no offensive experience in his career and played defense in college. This isn't a multi skilled defensive coach like Belichick who spent years learning both sides of the ball. He is a defensive coach and a great leader. Speaking of which you have a really good defensive coach in Spags. Arguably better than McD at least as far as the X' and O's are concerned and ironically another guy McD learned from in his time in Philadelphia. Given Reids playoff record before and after Mahomes I'm inclined to agree Mahomes is a much bigger reason for the success they have had. But with that Reid is most certainly one of the better minds in the NFL when it comes to offense. His history says as much and his performance on that side of the ball in his career does as well. He also has that excellent defensive mind in Spags that allows him to focus on the side of the ball thats most impactful to Mahomes. I'm not the guy in this thread arguing that Allen is on the same level as Mahomes. But if you want a guy in the thread to argue who is gotten more competent coaching I would be happy to fill that role. It's Mahomes and it's not by a small margin.
  3. I can't find the play you're talking about but if I could I would say we need six on that drive. You will probably say Mahomes doesn't always get six. Then I will say show me a time he only got three with a minute + on the clock. If he gets three regulation is over. Josh missed multiple plays on that drive and it almost didn't happen with the fumble. So however you want to debate that play the drive failed and it was most certainly the biggest of the season. So we can say McD sucks and it's true, the injuries were heavy and that's true, but at the end of the day Allen had a chance to win the game and it didn't happen.
  4. I loved watching Reggie Bush at USC along with Michael Vick at Virginia Tech. Obviously Barry was pretty amazing to watch at the NFL level. All three of these guys could just do things nobody else could.
  5. Those championship courses can be pretty exhausting
  6. Awsome read. Older article. Gives you some history on McD all of which is very positive. But you see how clearly McD was an understudy of Reid, Johnson, even Spags. How well Reid knew Johnson. Given what we have seen from his mentors it's just hard to envision Sean getting ahead of those guys when everything is on the line. He's likely a much better leader but he loses the X's and O's. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/2339679/2021/01/23/sean-mcdermott-buffalo-bills-andy-reid-eagles-panthers/
  7. These are the stats from the divisional round or later. It's per game averages for comparison. Lamar is certainly last in this conversation. After that you can make an argument for Burrow or Allen then Mahomes.
  8. We are 3-7 vs Mahomes and Burrow and 0-4 in the playoffs. If our defense performed at even an average level compared to every team who has faced Mahomes or Burrow in the playoffs we would have been to multiple AFC championships. KC and the Bengals have done whatever they want offensively and we have no reason to expect that will change. Further, all we are even discussing is getting past the divisional round. Forget about the two more games required to actually do what we want to see done. If you want to ignore this and just focus on the regular season championships so be it. Wish I could but it's obvious we aren't seeing this defense change in the postseason.
  9. If everybody thinks you're a sleeper are you no longer sleeping?
  10. Allens very nature demands that more is put on his back. He isn't going to sit in the pocket and use conventional weapons in the same way others would. Allen will always carry a team individually with his style of play. Perhaps nobody plays that style as well as him. That aspect will also be his detriment at times. Montana didn't carry his team like that nor did Brady. Not the way Allen does. They operated in a systematic way that allowed the rest of the offense to help with the lifting. It gave them incredible consistency in what they did. Nobody can really carry a team like Josh does and achieve the consistency they had. The two players are just different. Nobody is like Josh. It's almost pointless to ever think you could just sub Allen out into another team and have any clue what will happen. WIll Josh use the weapons in similar ways? Who knows. They're both elite and I expect both to be in the hall of fame.
  11. So the choice is to gaslight yourself?
  12. The Dolphins? The team that can't beat anybody over .500?
  13. Why does the XFL have a better replay system then the NFL? Not to mention the transparency. You hear the microphones on the refs. You hear what is being discussed on replay reviews. It's faster.
  14. It's very difficult to evaluate our pass blocking with Allen. He leaves the pocket so quickly. A lot of people say look! He avoided a sack! But he's bailing early in many situations because he trusts what he can do with his legs and in a broken play more than hanging in the pocket. Most QB's don't even get to make that choice. Given our improvement YoY it stands to reason the line was much better.
  15. Bernard was injured at Baylor in 2017 and 2020 and a fairly serious injury to end 2023. I can see why it was confusing.
  16. Bernard was injured for the year in 2017, 2020, and 2023. He's just so small. Very aggressive for his size. I don't think he can hold up to a full season. Milano strikes me as a guy that should get hurt a little more frequently. Usually the work out warriors can be a bit stiff in the joints. He has been very durable up until this point. I don't know how I could go under 11. Happy the Bills added some depth here. I think we will need it.
  17. Perhaps, but it's been another increase in play at the Super Bowl level judging by Mahomes stats. He didn't exactly light up the 49ers either time and Tampa gave him his worst playoff game in his career. We would have made the AFC championship for sure. But it surely won't just be about getting past KC. The NFC has put forth a team who nearly beat KC every year. We will need a multi game run, multiple comebacks, winning competitive close games. Long way uphill.
  18. Mahomes did something in 13 seconds that Allen hasn't been able to do in the regular season or playoffs. He won an OT game. It's certainly not like he has never had the ball in OT either. It's how we lost the Texans game. If you want to simplify to FG's that's up to you. I don't think that perspective is consistent with what has actually happened.
  19. We desperately need a close win in the playoffs against a top 5 team. To do so I think we will need to see Josh bring us from behind to win. It's something the Bills have never done with this iteration. 13 seconds only had so long of a shelf life in thinking that was the smoking gun evidence that we could comeback on the biggest stage. We had a shot last year. We can talk about missed FG's, but we could also talk about his fumble to start that drive which took one of the most fortunate bounces I ever remember to even get to the FG. We needed six on that drive. We had a shot to end the Houston game. We got a FG instead of six and failed in our first OT drive. I don't blame Allen for either outcome but we are talking about comparing him to Mahomes and Mahomes had to come from behind multiple times in every Super Bowl run they had. I think Josh can do it. It just hasn't happened yet.
  20. If you wanted to find a successful anti comp to Allen it would probably be Montana or Brady. It sort of feels like Mahomes has a smidge of that going on. What "that" stands for is just doing boring things consistently and better than others. It's not the super human stuff. Allen is probably the best at that of all time at this point. If a QB could win an award for most fun to watch Allen would have won every year since 2020 hands down.
