Maybe we should copy the Seahawks old approach?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they tried this approach already. Maybe if White didn't tear his ACL in New Orleans it would have worked. I get your point. They need to hope Bishop blossoms and Benford can be a true #1 CB. They will probably go with Bishop and Rapp but I expect one veteran and one rookie to be added to the mix. Time to say goodbye to Hamlin. At CB, I'm torn. Elam is a bust but there is little reason not to bring him to camp. He has zero trade value. Douglas wasn't that great all year but not terrible either. He should be easy to replace but hard to upgrade. Get the DL right and I think McDermott will patch together a secondary. My biggest fear is that Taron is in decline. There is no one one the roster that can replace him. -
Probably won't know but he was terrible before the injuries. In a weird way the injuries may have kept him on a NFL roster longer than had he not been injured.

Cooper Kupp leaving the Rams. Want him?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
No thanks. Too expensive. Too many injuries. They can keep Cooper for less -
HIs offense was innovative with the read option and fast paced spread offense in college. Now everyone runs it. He did not adapt well to the pro game. his Ohio State performance was hard to judge given the O-line injuries they had. He called a terrible game against Michigan but the OSU kicker and QB played terribly too. He is nothing special as a play caller and certainly not worth making double what other OC's are getting.

Tired of reading abut the officials. Cook was right don't leave it up to them McDermott should have challenged the spot Brady should have had other options than repeated QB sneak Kincaid should have caught the ball A few new PRs over the weekend in the gym 55# shoulder dumbbell presses two sets of 10 reps 165# lat pull downs two sets of 10 reps 817# leg press seated machine, 10 reps!! Milled my rough cherry for my shaker leg tables! Looking forward to MVP voting. Really want Josh to win, but if he got slighted would only add more fuel to fire to destroy the league next year! Also looking forward to HOF class. A few locks in an otherwise weak class I'd vote in: Antonio Gates - many other guys have moved past him on the list of all time greats but he is still a top 10 TE of all-time. Eli Manning (not a HOF talent but two SuperBowls and multiple HOF caliber throws in the playoffs will make him first ballot HOF inductee) Adma Venitieri - can't write the story of Pats dynasty and thus the NFL without those kicks in the snow against the Raiders. Luke Kuechly - need one guy on defense. He made a lot of plays. Not physically intimidating but if you let in Zach Thomas then Kuechly belongs too as he was better than Thomas in every way. I'm decidedly on the fence with both Reggie Wayne(supported him in the past) and Tory Holt( said no in the past). Neither seem like generational talents but they do have numbers. My guess is they vote in Holt and leave out Wayne again as I think Holt has been eligible longer.

They need a legit ProBowl level player somewhere on the DL and the need a top 20 WR to go with all the guys they are bringing back. A solid edge rookie to replace Epenesa a d compete with Solomon. Then they will need a CB and S but they can be solid not superstar guys. Bring back Johnson and let Morris and Davidson compete for TE#3. I'd let Trubisky go, bring back White and draft a late round prospect QB. My perfect off season would be: Cut Miller, Epenesa, and Trubis then let Hamlin and Douglas walk. Get Milano to take a pay cut like they did with Miller. Bring back Johnson. Garrett for #1 in 2025 and 2026 and swap Minn 2nd for Cleveland 's 3rd. That should be enough to get it done Sign Cooper to 3 yr deal. Sign middle of the road veteran DT, CB, and S all to no more than 2 year deals. Extend Josh. Draft DT or CB in second round. Add another edge, a punter, another CB and a late round QB. Last move if you can, extend Shakir. Make Rousseau and Bernard play out their contracts. No extensions for either.

Why no tush push on the Allen QB sneaks?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed! Makes no sense. Even changing up the snap cadence probably gets an Offside. Also it would be nice if they had called Jones being lined up in the neutral zone. -
Guys he lies every year. He never tells the truth. And he should lie to us and the media. There is no upside to telling the truth. He has signed FA's every year. Even when they had no money last year he still got Samuel, brought back DQ, and traded for Cooper. He will be active this year. I just hope this year he mortgages the future for a big trade acquisition like he did with Diggs. That is what the defense needs to put us over the top.

It Goes Back to 13 Seconds, Doesn't It?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's too late for 2025. The window to fire him was last year when they could have chosen Johnson, Harbaugh, or Belichick. Allen already said he doesn't want to install a new offense. No way you fire McD just to promote Brady. Who would you hire? McCarthy? Kingsbury? Like I said this next year is more about Beane and Brady. Beane has got to fix the defensive line. -
It Goes Back to 13 Seconds, Doesn't It?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree. Levy needed to intervene and he didn't. Thurman could have had 250 combined yards taht day. Plus Talley missed like 8 tackles that game. -
Lol. Brady left the same situation in Boston and won a SuperBowl elsewhere. They hate him now. Josh is amazing for Buffalo but money is money. They have to extend him this year with a massive guaranteed amount of money this year and spread the cap hit. If they don't they have very little cap room.

Hot Take: Does Bobby Babich Lose His Job?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
No. They didn't have enough talent up front and injuries in secondary were a legit excuse. We knew it from day 1. The minute Beane signed Epenesa to an extension we knew the DL was screwed. The surprise was the drop off in DQ play. That hurt. Rousseau is just far too inconsistent and that really hurt them against KC. Bishop had better get much better next year or it will add to long list of 2nd round busts for Beane.- 185 replies

Not using James Cook on final drive a head scratcher
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall
Brady choked. He kept letting Allen run QB sneaks when simple runs woukd have worked just as well. The whole season we screamed for more play action and he never delivered. Remember the narrative before the season on Cook?? Could we get a 2nd? He can't catch? He can't break tackles? People on this board look a bit foolishness now...but they will never own up to it -
It Goes Back to 13 Seconds, Doesn't It?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wrong analysis We lost to the Giants because of Levy not reigning in Kelly We lost the next three because the NFC was the far superior conference and Washington and Dallas were bigger, stronger, and faster. We lost to KC in the 13 second game because McD choked. We lost the next three playoff games becuase the team was gassed after Hamlin, injuries on defense and Bass, and then this year because Brady sucked and Allen played a B+ game. I've been a McDermott critic since 13 seconds and I would have fired him last year in favor of Harbaugh or Belichick. Now there is no one better to get. Run it back one more year. 2025 is mostly on Beane. He has to find a #1 WR and fix the DL and secondary. He will have the cap space and draft capital to do both.- 92 replies

Bill's Free Agents 2025
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Donuts and Doritos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Johnson and Hollins for sure. Ferguson is fine as a LS. Cooper I don't know. The Browns wanted to move on from him and we didn't use him. Maybe he is washed but he made some great catches for this team when he was used. Still think he can be a good #1 for a couple more years. Seems to like Buffalo and Josh like him. I'd make a play for him but perhaps let him see what his market is first. Beane has done that before. All the rest of the unrestricted can go. Gilliam was never as useless as I claimed but we have 10 draft picks. Let Gilliam walk and replace him with a 5th round FB. Will be just as good/useless and far cheaper. Morris is acceptable TE3 but not sure he is any better than a mid to late round draft prospect and again far less expensive. Anderson/Van Demark should stay. -
This is rare but I agree with this analysis
Ethan in Cleveland replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Brady was poor. I still don't understand why Cooper was not featured. Allen's comments about how he accepted his role and how much he loved Cooper were interesting. Not sure what if anything to read into it. Seems like the players didn't understand either why Cooper was not getting more playing time. That said I thought going into the game they could win with a balanced run/pass mix. As the game went on and Brady refused to feature Cooper and Cook was getting huge chunks it made sense to keep running the ball. In the fourth quarter though the 1st down runs went from getting 6-10 yards to getting 1-4 yards. Their D-line was starting to take control. That's where they should have used more play action. Coleman should have never been on the field. It should have been a heavy dose of Knox, Cooper, Shakir, and Samuel on that final drive. -
What happened to DeWayne Carter and Solomon?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
DT takes a long long time to develop. Carter's best role is probably backing up Oliver at 3T. Not even being active as a 3rd round pick is very disappointing but I don't really fault McD on this one. He went with veteran guys over a rookie coming off injury. Seems like it would have made sense to give him some reps against Denver and if he did ok then keep him active. But he never go the chance. The problem all year and for several years was minimal edge rush production. If they can get 6-8 sacks out of Solomon that will be more than enough to get rid of Epenesa. -
As Romo pointed out they ran that 4th down play with a back-up QB two years ago. KC has not run many QB sneaks since Mahomes hurt his knee on one three or four years ago. Brady should have developed other 3rd and 1 options a long time ago. And that is not revisionist history. Many many posters on here have been calling for it for months and at least to go to the right from time to time to keep the defense honest.

Beane has to finally get the DL right. I actually trust McD will figure out the secondary. I don't think McD has a clue how to build a pass rush, as evidenced by Epenesa and PED Murphy playing valuable snaps over his tenure. Hopefully Solomon will take a step forward and be a decent situational pass rush guy. I doubt he will ever be a starter. Best bet is to mortgage the future and go get a proven star edge player. Takes too long to develop DL and picking at 30 the chances of getting a great one is low.

Would you watch a "Consolation" Bowl?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
No I would not watch and I absolutely would not want my players risking injury for a meaningless game. Please bear in mind, I would also eliminate all Pre-season games and advocating for cancelling the ProBowl back in the 1980's. -
Frank Reich Offensive Quality Coach
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Bilzman's topic in The Stadium Wall
Rather bring back Alex Van Pelt as passing game coordinator. Always felt Reich was overrated.
