Fields had as bad an offensive team around him as Allen did his rookie year. I think both have a chance to be good.

You can't exclude trading a #1 pick for a WR and say the Bills are opposite the rest of the league. Its the exact opposite of the point you are trying to make. They invested a #1 pick on a WR. Makes no difference if it is a veteran or a rookie.

If used correctly he is a 70 catch 800 yard guy as a rookie. Remember he is not a TE, he is a slot receiver. That is still 20 or so less receptions than Beasley had in this offense in one less game. If he only has 40 catches for 500 yards then they have a problem. Diggs should be around 105 receptions. Then I think Davis goes for 65 receptions and at 16 YPC that puts him just over 1000 yards. That's 240 receptions of the 350-380 completions Josh will throw. The remaining 120ish receptions will be spread around to the other guys. Knox probably makes 40 or 50 of those.

And STs being a 3rd part of the team is coach speak. Football has evolved. The game changes. But you are correct this regime values ST only players.

He played in 323 ST snaps last year and 3 defensive snaps. He had 6 tackles all year. 6 tackles in 16+ games. The prior year 340 ST snaps in 17 games and 19 total tackles but 7 pf which were assists. I'm sorry any street FA on a minimum contract can do what he does. For that matter Dorian Williams should take all his ST snaps. Williams is likely to never see the field as Milano's backup. At least he could see real action for a year playing STs.

Superbowl wins matter. But so does consistent long term success. People will remember Phillip Rivers and Eli Manning. Rivers was the better QB. Eli had more special moments and obviously two Lombardis. Eli will probably be a first ballot HOF inductee. Rivers probably takes a few years. Mahommes is a first ballot HOF guy too. Allen will be as well when he wins our hometown a couple Lombardis.

Actually he didn't. When Miller went down they gave Epenesa the chance to start. I dont think it lasted for more than a game or two. Then Lawson was elevated to starter. McDermott didn't play Lawson as a starter when he was on the team before. The fact he started over Epenesa shows how bad Epenesa is. I'm guessing he gets the Cody Ford treatment after the first preseason game. He gets shipped out for a day 3 pick.

Yeah that is the ideal. Its a risk though. A few early season losses and they could be chasing the Jets or Dolphins all season long. Rousseau really needs to step up.

They didn't rule out White until the last possible moment last year. They put him on PUP on Aug 30th. Up until then all we heard was he was rehabbing. I wouldn't put any stock in anything they say until he is either activated or they put him on PUP list. If there is any chance he can play in the first month I would put him on the final 53 and healthy scratch him a couple weeks if necessary. But as others have said, its more likely they are conservative and go the PUP route. Honestly that wouldn't be terrible. He is most important in the playoffs not in September.

Cancel them all. They are useless unnecessary injury risk games. Bills staff probably already knows 51 of the 53 guys to make the roster. They probably know 7 of the 10 guys they want on the PS. I wouldn't play a single starter a single snap in preseason. And I'm right. COVID season proved the quality of play was no different without preseason games.

Excellent data. A few caveats though... Allen didn't start right away. Somehow this coach thought it better to start Peterman. I don't for one second believe he thought Peterman was better. I think he was of the mindset to let Allen sit and learn as many coaches do with young QBs. But because Peterman was trash he was forced to play Allen. Edmunds, White, Dawkins, Oliver, and Knox all started because there were literally no other options. Bills got rid of the previous starters and did nothing in free agency to replace them. They were all good need picks by Beane except Oliver which I still hate that pick. Oliver started but was relegated to second string mid-season. He always seems to look good in camp and then rarely makes plays during the season. I agree though the narrative is overblown. I think if you go back it stems from Gore getting reps over Singletary and effectively benching Cook for his first carry fumble - which was pop-warner level coaching. Add Elam not even dressing for a game and it added fuel to a fire that really shouldn't exist.

Can't see them cutting Shakir. He showed plenty last year and he is the only guy on the roster that can back up Diggs/Davis on the outside. But I could also see him as a healthy scratch much of the year if Kincaid is as good as advertised. However, I'd rather have an extra WR on game day than an extra RB. Of course i hate the fact we even carry a FB and wish they would just get rid of Gilliam.
