  1. I believe that this draft sends a clear signal that Ford will be playing right tackle this season. IMHO, it will take a complete meltdown by Ford before McD gives up on him.
  2. For those who are apoplectic over Davis picked in the fourth round, I remember my negative over reaction to another fourth round WR pick. I was like...Andre who? What the h--- is a Kutztown State. You have to be sh---ing me. What kind of b---sh-- is this. Well I guess he showed me how wrong my initial perception was. My advice now is to chill out and see how it plays out. I trust Beane to do the right thing.
  3. Exactly right. He played in what I thought was a pretty limited offense (I saw several of his games). He ran the routes that the plays called for. He played under control, was physical, and has very good hands. He gets off the line of scrimmage and down the field. He will be an upgrade of the WR depth but will need to be coached up.
  4. I'm a little surprised that he was still there at 86 but I'm not complaining. He is a really tough runner. This is a pretty good pick. I expect Beane to make another move before the end of this round or at the beginning of round 4 at a minimum. He still has more picks than he has room on the roster.
  5. He was the 7th rated tackle and projected mid second round. Do the research and you'll see pick 18 was a stretch.
  6. I think you're right about this. Not counting Diggs, I have had the impression that he is only looking to grab three guys with a serious chance to make the roster and contribute early. The rest would be developmental or high risk picks. If that is accurate, picks 2,3,and 4 are important unless he can package 4 with 5 and/or 6 to get to the end of round three or top of round 4. After sitting through round one and watching some good talent slide down the board, Beane probably can't wait to get some action. I guess I find it hard to wait also.
  7. I think OJ is available but that ankle tether might be a problem.
  8. Reasonable order. Any of these guys available at 54 would be a decent selection and improve the roster. I believe the RB's will be gone before the Bills pick. I think one of them will end up in Miami.
  9. Great analysis! Certainly better than what we will hear all day from the talking heads on TV. Thanks, I appreciate your work on this.
  10. The only thing uninformed on this board was your response. He was projected with a second round grade from multiple sources. You'll see it when they put on the pads.
  11. Definitely a couple of reaches for CB in round one. Miami at #18 was also a reach for the tackle. It was also interesting that Dallas went for Lamb at #17 when their secondary seems to be a mess. I thought the Bama safety or T. Diggs made some sense for them. Although, Lamb was a good value for them at #17.
  12. You are exactly correct on this. When you go back and look at the rhetoric flying around previous drafts and compare it to what actually happened, you can't help but be skeptical about all of the reporters. Sportswriters are so desperate to generate clicks and readership that many of them will jump on a story without confirmation from a second source. Teams love it because it keeps competitors guessing and they hope that creates an advantage for them during the draft.
  13. IMHO a trade or two is very likely. It is also not unusual that a couple of guys are lost to injuries before the season starts. What I take away from all of these posts is that Buffalo is in really good shape going into the draft and there are good options in most of the position groups. The fact that there is not a complete consensus on the roster locks means that there will be real competition at a number of positions. It should also be readily apparent to all of us that Beane has done a tremendous job of building the roster without destroying the cap. It is really nice to know that there is not a roster crisis that must be filled in the draft. Beane will be able to draft to improve the depth and to fill future needs. If one of the rookies beats out a starting veteran, then that is great too. This is how traditionally good teams enter the draft. We should all be pleased with this situation.
  14. I don't believe that TE changes are even on Beane's radar. Howard would be an upgrade but I doubt that he is headed to Buffalo.
  15. They also took out Jimmy Hoffa, faked the moon landing, and Bigfoot is their accomplice. Just sayin'
  16. Coleman has had one or more knee injuries but played well when given the opportunity last season. There are already better FA options available plus some really good talent in the draft. Why give up draft picks when you don't have to? I'd rather use the extra draft picks to move up for a better prospect in the draft.
  17. Maybe after the draft if the Bills don't get a WR they want. Otherwise, no need to consider him.
  18. Chan Gailey was an amateur compared to Teddy M. and the K-gun. Thurman Thomas was a master at slipping out of pass protection and catching screen passes. Thurman in the open field was beyond dangerous. It also helped that a great o-line executed the sell of pass blocking effectively..........and by the way there was some hall of fame guy delivering the ball with perfect timing and location. A more subtle aspect of effective screen passes is the ability of wide receivers to run secondary defenders off the line of scrimmage or block them out of the play. Andre Reed was exceptionally good at this. The schemes for screen passes are not as important as the deception and execution. The best scheme in the league that is poorly executed won't work any better than an average scheme that is poorly executed. Having the o-line returning intact for this season should allow them to improve on the finesse required to run effective screens. Josh Allen needs to improve the timing and ball location. Allen had a tendency to give the play away with his eyes and have poor ball location. Both of these things are easy to fix. For Daboll, knowing when to call a screen is a big deal. Third and long is not the best time unless you're looking to pick up a few yards to help the punter and field position. Second and short yardage is a great time because defenses will typically expect teams to take a shot deeper down field. It is also a good call in situations for which your opponent is known to blitz. Daboll can do a better job of picking the time to run them.
  19. Newton would have to play for almost the veteran minimum to fit into the Cheatriots cap space. Cam will have other offers and for money that NE can't pay. IMHO, things won't happen for Newton until after the draft and when players can travel for physicals.
  20. When I get bored, I look at some of the Jest's fan sites. Their fans that haven't consumed the Kool-aid, have gone off the deep end. Every time something bad surfaces, they erupt with over the top negative reactions. Shortly thereafter, the Kool-aid drinkers rip the non-drinkers a new one and claim the front office knows what they are doing. It is all pretty entertaining. Teams knew that Adams was a bit of a problem before the draft. The Jest's took a chance and we see how it is working out for them. I can't blame Adams for wanting to win or make more money but IMHO his contributions on the field aren't worth the drama.
