  1. Here's the thing: I think many of the narratives surrounding Josh have been correct. He was extremely raw coming into the league, and too raw to win with last year. He did have a tendency to make poor throws at a rate well above other QBs. You're saying 1 out of 25. Last year it was 1 in 4 according to pro football reference. The next closest guy was Rosen at 1 in 5. Average was around 16-17%. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2018/passing_advanced.htm He frequently takes too long to read a defense. Collinsworth said he's last in the league in time to throw. Some sites have him bottom 10 depending on how they account for things like sacks and throwaways. He is improving. The national media types for the most part are acknowledging this. They're saying the same stuff you're saying e.g. 4th quarter comebacks, GWDs, timely throws, makes plays with his feet, etc. I feel like some posters on here bend over backwards to find the most negative view that still exists and latch onto that in some kind of weird inferiority complex. IMO very few NFL media, fans, etc., still think he outright sucks. They think he's about what the numbers say he is: a second year player who's getting better but not quite there yet, clutch player, someone you can win with on the right team, etc. As for the SNF broadcast, I thought they called the game based on the way it was played. Josh was unfortunately a little inaccurate on some throws (some more than others) and our receivers did everything they could to make those throws look worse than they were. Why are we expecting Michaels and Collinsworth to gush about 139 yards passing, a pick, drops, and some sloppy ball protection? Josh is a second year player who's still figuring it out. He hasn't earned that praise yet. You mention Mahomes. That guy won MVP. He gets the accolades because his team wins games of the back of his huge production. We win games in large part because of the strength of our defense, and so that's what they focused on.
  2. Seriously? I didn't know that. You think he was indirectly defending his investment? The PFF/Duck stuff was funny but I'm surprised it got taken so seriously, and I'm a supporter of the PFF product despite it's faults. But that was a horrible take re Allen/Duck. Even my buddies who routinely give me a hard time about Allen wouldn't go that far. I enjoyed the SNF broadcast. Despite the fact we played a "national" team, it felt pretty even. They gushed about our defense. At least we didn't have to endure five straight BS calls to start the game like Thanksgiving.
  3. I think he's perfectly suited or a back up RB in short yardage situations. Problems arise when you start running him on wide sweeps in the red zone (or anywhere really). KISS
  4. I thought Wallace was pretty good the last couple of weeks.
  5. Maybe I'm late to the party but it looks like pro football reference is publishing advanced passing stats now like on target %, pressure stats, etc. Unfortunately they don't let you rank QBs with them yet via their play index but if you're willing to put in the work it helps answer a lot of the questions we've been asking about accuracy, drops, etc. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/A/AlleJo02.htm Currently Josh has an on target % of 69%. His bad throw % has gone from 25% last year to 18% this year. Progress!
  6. Do you criticize people equally? I don't. Some have capabilities that far exceed others and are deserving of different levels of criticism. Hodges is a third string QB who was lucky to be starting in a Sunday night game. The grading curve is different.
  7. Go back and watch his feet on the TD throw. It's tough to be convinced you need to change your mechanics when you do the thing your coaches tell you not to and you put it right on the money in the biggest moment of the game.
  8. Yup and Knox is only 0.3 yards behind Beasley. The problem with that stat is it only measures when the ball is thrown. Given we're discussing separation in the first 2.5 seconds when Josh hasn't thrown yet, it would seem to be a moot point. I'm also a little unclear why Next Gen is stripping out sacks in their TTT measurement. If a guy is holding the ball too long and it results in a sack, shouldn't that count toward his numbers??
  9. Collinsworth said he was last in TT during the broadcast yesterday at over 3 seconds. I'm not sure where he got that but ESPN does a lot of work with Elias Sports Bureau so maybe it was from them, but we're kind of splitting hairs here. My solution is not to take intentional grounding penalties which is what the guy I responded to seemed to be advocating. You can't "just throw it away" from inside the pocket which is where the many of Josh's sacks have occurred. If he can't make quick decisions he might as well get out of the pocket. I would prefer he make quick decisions. I think he holds the ball a long time because he's slow at processing and afraid to make mistakes. And No, I don't think our super fast and shifty WR group of "smoke" Brown, Beasley, McKenzie, Foster, and Knox are woeful at creating separation. I think they're above average. They're well below average in making tough catches but that's another debate.
  10. An intentional grounding penalty isn’t any better. The real issue is he’s DFL in the entire NFL in time it takes to throw. Once he’s already screwed up the play with slow decision making I’d rather he try to bail us out by buying time, getting out of the pocket and risk giving up the sack. He’s really good at that. Making quicker, better decisions is the number one thing he needs to work on this off season IMO.
  11. C- It’s tough grading games like this when our receivers prove completely incapable of making catches that are even a little bit difficult. What would Josh’s numbers have looked like if Beasley and Brown had hauled in a couple of those early ones? I was texting with a buddy (Bears fan) during the game and he’s convinced Allen and Trubisky are the same QB. Both are really good outside the pocket, improvising on the run, etc. Both struggle with accuracy and take too long to read a defense. He pointed out Mitch made the pro bowl last year despite his rep as a bad QB. It would appear non-Bills fans still aren’t sold.
  12. Making the playoffs is nice but I’m greedy. I want to beat the Pats in Foxboro...twice! On to NE.
  13. The Duck jokes are fun but I don’t think this is the game to rub PFF’s face about Josh. He was kind of bad too, just not flaming duck grease bad.
  14. Tough crowd. Michaels and Collinsworth are one of only a few good announcing crews. It was fun listening to them gush about Edmunds and White.
  15. 4 picks. Can we start calling Devlin Hodges Wounded Duck?
  16. Why on earth did we play prevent like it was the last play of the game when they're clearly in four down territory??
  17. Josh with the bad feet again but it didn't matter. Put it right on the money and Kroft actually caught it.
  18. We're down on the road in the fourth quarter. ESPN flashes the graphic that Josh is #1 in the red zone this year among QBs. He has ~327 TDs and no INTs. Daboll sees this and proceeds to not give him the ball at all.
  19. Good job Hauschka. At least someone's doing their job.
