  1. Wait, did you just do what you’re complaining about Brandt doing?
  2. Its ok to root for Allen, and I will, but to sit and act like the league hasn’t changed is simply ignorant. Do you think Sam Bradford is a generational talent because his 70% completion percentage a couple years ago? Of course you don’t, because the league has changed. In 1995, Steve Young led the league with a completion percentage of 66%. At that time, it was the 7th best all-time. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_cmp_perc_single_season_1995.htm Where does that rank now? I’ll answer that for you. It is now 61st in league history for a season. So 54 times since 1995, a qb has completed over 66% of his passes, and you’re gonna tell me the league hasn’t changed and completion % is completion %? Get out of here with that crap.
  3. The game has definitely changed since then.
  4. He can’t be but so smart, only 8 teams passed on him (Cleveland 2x) He doesn’t know basic math. In all seriousness though, he’s who I wanted
  5. Regarding your question about getting Allen and how we view the rest of the draft, my personal opinion is if Allen’s strength is his arm talent, then we need to get a guy who can stretch the field. If we have nobody with speed, what was the point of getting Allen?
  6. I won’t create a thread for this but here is my thought on Allen. I was livid when we took him ahead of Rosen (who I wanted regardless of where we picked). I’ve had a chance to calm down some, and I still don’t like it. Sure, he has potential, and he will make throws that wow us all. For that, there will be exciting times. Heck, in the grand scheme of things, football is just entertainment anyways. And Allen will almost certainly be entertaining. However, since I watch football for more than entertainment reasons, I have an unhealthy desire to see Buffalo win. Maybe Allen is the one to do that. But the flaws are there. And this is what I don’t understand about this pick, and our entire offseason. When the trade happened, I was so convinced it would be Rosen for one reason and one reason only. We got rid of Taylor because we (Beane) felt he couldn’t make all of the throws needed to be made. He lacked anticipation. He missed receivers. They had to be wide open for him to pull the trigger. Isn’t Rosen the opposite of that? He has great anticipation and accuracy. Flawless throwing mechanics. Perhaps pro ready. To me, I was stunned that they were willing to get rid of a known commodity in Taylor because of limitations, just to take an unknown commodity with limitations. Allen has was more potential than Taylor, and that will be the major argument here. But I just felt Rosen was more of who they desired, someone who anticipated receivers, could work the middle of the field, and move the chains. Essentially, safe football (like NE). To me, Allen is the opposite and I’m shocked they got rid of the safe guy for a guy who may end up worse.
  7. Ummm, most QBs haven’t been successful here, which is why we are where we are. What state appeals to you since California is off limits? I feel dumber for reading this.
  8. We have holes. I know that and everyone knows that. Making minor moves to plug them means we don’t have to use picks to fill them. And I said, “maybe I’m reading what I want into it.”
  9. I 100% want Rosen but Mayfield and Darnold are fine. Heck, I don’t want Allen, but if we took him, I’m enough of a homer to fall in love with his God given arm talent.
  10. I’ve said this before but I swear these little moves scream moving up for a qb. Maybe I’m just reading what I want into it?
  11. While I don’t believe it will happen, my brother is a huge Cowboys fan and just had a conversation with me a few weeks ago about Bryant. He said someone put together an analysis with All22 clips showing Dez running wide open all year last year. He says it was certainly an indictment of Prescott not finding Bryant wide open. So yes, he still gets separation but his qb is not finding him for whatever reason. My brother said if Prescott doesn’t make a jump this year, he’s personally done with him and feels as though Prescott isn’t much different than Taylor. He’s no scout so take it as you will, but he’s a fan of the cowboys as we are with the Bills. Just figured I share that.
  12. Just because the patriots like him, doesn’t make it right. Second, who even knows if they really like him? Third, we have such an inferiority complex with them. Who cares if they like him? If we don’t, why should we change our mind? Because they like him? That’s a great idea.
  13. I didn’t read everything that led to this statement, but it got me thinking. You mention all these 2nd rounders GB has had who turned out very good. The common demoninator with them all is their qb. With that said, if we get a real qb, I would bet our draft picks all suddenly become better. What I mean is this....as we stand now, we need blue chippers across the board because we have all these holes. If we hit on a qb, I think every draft pick after that suddenly doesn’t have to be blue chip prospects. We can start to truly count on 5th round receivers being contributors. We don’t need to trade up for Watkins because our qb can make any wr produce. Our defense doesn’t have to be the 2000 Ravens, because we can score points. I know none of that is groundbreaking, but I feel like all future drafts instantly get better, or at the worst, we are less dependent on them. Example being the Colts, who I feel many have said haven’t drafted well in the 2000s, yet won a SB and went to another because they had Manning.
  14. 1. Sam Darnold - Bills 2. Josh Rosen - Broncos 3. Josh Allen - Browns 4. Baker Mayfield - Jets 5. Lamar Jackson - Cardinals Bonus: Bills Pick - Darnold
  15. All that list shows is we need to move up to get our qb, because it’s been 13 years since a qb outside the top 5 was good (based on your list, I know Wilson wasn’t top 5). An interesting exercise would be to look at all top 5 QBs since 2004, then compare their hit rate compared to QBs from pick 6-32. I’d love to see the discrepancy in those numbers. The top 5 typically within the past decade (maybe better scouting, analytics) produces more hits than busts. Since 2004, top 5 busts would include who? Jamarcus Russell, Bortles?, Bradford? RG3? If Bradford and Bortles are lumped in as the worst, that’s oretty successful. Now look at the other 1st rounders where teams thought they were getting talented QBs with bargain picks. You named Ben and Rodgers who are certainly hits. But then there are the Gabberts, Lockers, Ponders, Losmans of the league. Seems like the proof is there that top 5 QBs don’t typically flame out. They are at minimum (with very few exceptions) longtime starters in this league, even if for multiple teams. I say we take a chance and move up. But that’s me. Basically, my response can be simply stated as this. I don’t want to stay put and draft the next Flacco so we can keep our picks. I want to move up and get our Rodgers or Brady. Theres a lot a talk about all the holes we have to fill. What’s funny to me is when you simply go back to last year, was there a roster in the league with more holes than SF (besides cleveland)? Insert a competent qb, and they go what, 5-0, 6-0? But what happened to all their holes?
  16. So we should stockpile picks for next year to move up, but not use the picks we stockpiled this year to move up in a more qb heavy draft? That doesn’t make sense. I can see it now (if it ever happened), next year, we have a ton of picks. Then we would still have the same crowd saying we can’t mortgage the picks. Wait till 2020. We can’t keep pushing it back. In fact, your scenario is the exact same scenario the front office used in preparation for this year. So why not now?
  17. You said picking 6 players makes it likely to hit on one or two players. What’s not to understand? If hitting on one or two players is better than hitting on a qb, then that’s your opinion. You made it clear. If that’s not what you said, perhaps you have an issue with getting your point across clearly.
  18. Wait, so getting two position players is now better than one qb? Ok. Sounds reasonable
  19. Is that huge surplus gonna get us a qb that we will desperately need? No, because they rarely hit the market. But what can the cap surplus do that is possible? Get us position players to fill holes. I don’t understand why people don’t get it.
  20. Why do some people think that picking a position player can’t produce a bust as well? It’s like people are afraid of a qb because they might fail, but then talk about all of the picks in the first three rounds as if they are locks to be great. Here’s a concept. If our staff is good enough to nail 6 picks over 3 rounds, they are good enough to pick a qb.
  21. I actually can’t stand him either, nor do I want him in buffalo (I’d root for him if he was though), but I’m not so sure he is overrated. He has put up HOF numbers to start his career. Yes, the media loves to talk about him. But his numbers do back up the hype.
  22. We can all debate if the Giants have any sort of ethical obligation to do something about the video. However, it would seem crazy to “punish yourself” by giving a drug test and suspending him if he fails. It may not be right from a moral standpoint, but it makes sense why they wouldn’t from a competitive point of view.
  23. I prefer option 1 because I just want them to go for it. I’m not afraid of the bust potential. I know it exists. I know it’s possible. Heck, I understand that statistically, it may even be likely. But I don’t care. I also recognize that you are nothing in this league without a qb. We have to try. Our lack of trying is probably the single most frustrating thing I have experienced with this team since I became a fan in 1991. I want hope. I want excitement. I want entertainment (essentially that’s all sports is anyways). I want to believe we have a chance. I want to believe we have a chance every year. I actually get tired of the stay at 12 and 22 talk and building a great team around any qb. People point to the championship games last year as proof. I have a couple problems with that. First, good luck paying 15 great players that you have a accumulated. Second, can anyone provide any other year as evidence that last year wasn’t just an anomaly? I am genuinely asking because I don’t recall. When I think of AFC Championsgip games since 2000, I think of brady, Manning, and Roethlisberger. In the NFC, it’s been Rodgers, Wilson, Ryan, Newton, Brees in recent years. Where are the other examples of great teams with average QBs? Dilfer and Brad Johnson? Joe Flacco and Baltimore? Seems to me that’s more of an anomaly than a trend. Lets just go get the qb. If you want to contend long term for 15 years, get a qb. If you want to contend for 4 years, draft everyone else.
  24. While I’m sure it won’t happen, that would certainly make for an entertaining season. We would likely have a fun offense that would put up a few 300 yard passing games (normal for most teams, rare for us). With that being said, I’m curious if anyone else felt this way last year. We made the playoffs and won 9 games, but was last year perhaps one of the more boring seasons we have had in a while? I feel like the Tampa and Oakland games were the most entertaining (sure we won so that helped), but in 7 other wins, it was just blah. We won so that was great and I always root for wins. But if we had an offense that gave us hope, I almost feel like 6-7 wins will actually be more entertaining than the 9 we had last year.
  25. Hold onto the ball too long and take a sack or scramble for a few yards? Just kidding. Sort of.
