  1. Except you have Arizona, Baltimore and San Diego between 22 and 12. If you want a QB, you will need to either take him at 12 or just say screw it, I'll grab White/Falk in the third.
  2. I'm saying that Cousins rejected a multi-year contract in order to take a shorter term deal. This contract was initially slated to be at least 5 years, possibly six. I can hardly wait to see what Rodgers signs for - but I'm willing to bet it's short term so he can continually ring the register with guaranteed money. If Cousins gets $27 and Garafolo gets nearly that, doesn't he go $105 at least? And Ryan then goes for a shorter term deal - maybe two years - and $70MM? In the past, every single QB when he was resigned was done for 5, 6, 7, 8 years. When you increase the rate of transactions you by definition increase the likelihood of the QB leaving. And the rise in guaranteed money only damages it. Tell you what - I saying that GMs that look at the connection to their QB like 2017 are fighting the last war. Things have changed.
  3. Not one of the prospects is any where NEAR as good as any of the veterans you are comparing them to. But like you say, it's out of our hands and it is so, by the desires of a GM that has been widely loved here. Trust the process.
  4. I find it funny that the Bills fans are fearing something the Jets front office. This is the team that gave up the farm to get Mark Sanchez. That only just recently, only in the last few weeks, screwed up the QB negotiations for Kirk Cousins. Now they've way, way, way overpaid to go from 6 to 3, and left the door open for Denver to go from 5 to 2. Which, mark my words, they will do. The Jets freaking invented the clown car so they could get to the Meadowlands together. I'm sure as heck glad we've got Beane running the show here.
  5. If the Kirk Cousins contract - and the relative success of back up QBs across the league last year - it should be that the idea of a 10-15 year starter is over. Way, way, the f over. Cousins signed a 3 year, fully guaranteed contract. No team, anywhere, will be able to "lock up" a QB forever. Days are gone, my friend.
  6. Glad we didn't take the bait; for us to have matched the Jets it would have cost probably something on the order of both our firsts this year, one of our seconds, and next year's first. Absurd, and especially for a QB that no matter who you pick is no better a chance to make in this league than Blake Bortles.
  7. Generally I believe a future draft pick is discounted by at least one round - making the a middle third considerably less valuable. And I think overall the further away from the first round the less reliable the value chart is. But yeah, right off the top that was a heavy, heavy price to pay.
  8. During a presser, the GM gave all kinds of props to McC - and it seemed honest, not forced. The coach/management is big on competition and if can excel, he'll start ... and I think that's true even if we take a rookie at #3. The team is so built around "the process" that it can't be any other way. He can win the job and he's lead dog right now in shorts. But they'll do anything to win. Can't forget that they gave the keys to Nate with the playoffs on the line against a good team.
  9. I used to think this part a lot too. But Beane said he looked at every throw McCarron made - and that's the guy he wanted. The pro throws he made - they were either lucky, blessed by incredible receivers or he has an arm like nobody. I think the first two, right? He's confident and competitive. Doesn't what you know about Compton, McC, Murphy ... it strikes me that there has to be something inside that rings true first to this management. The emphasis on seniors, on commitment to the process, on everyone competing all the time. I don't like the idea of Baker Mayfield - but boy it sounds like Mayfield is McBeane's type of guy. I guess the bottom line is that I agree but for different reasons. I have yet to see an instance where they've selected the best athlete and in at least one instance, they traded that guy away (Sammy) to focus on team-oriented players.
  10. on height and QB; I think it's relevant that Mayfield is just about a half inch shorter than a 6-1" QB, and while he isn't Russell Wilson fast, he's mobile. I wouldn't hold height against him. anyways, the research here shows it's a pretty individual thing. http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf/2017/02/stats_show_shorter_nfl_quarter.html
  11. Maybe and maybe not. Strikes me some things would have to come true - possibly a series of things all coming true. Your presumption is that a backup QB can't do it. Obviously since 2 backup QBs made the playoffs, that's absurd. And the rest of the NFL thinks it's absurd, since a lot of backups will be starting next September. You are presuming that there will be someone else that hits on drafting a QB - I hardly think that's a slam dunk. There are QBs in this draft, but I highly doubt there is more than 1 franchise guy. And of course, for the to be out of here in less than two years, they Bills ownership will have to dismiss McD/B that brought them to the playoffs one year after making the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. The gloom and doom crap about them out in one year is pretty much hyperbole. Won't happen. Because the flip side of not moving up to get a QB is that they'll have 6 of the best 65 prospects in football to join White and Dawkins. And if four of those guys start and two are as stunning a success as 2017 draft picks, then only an idiot fires the two guys that put together a great, cheap young nucleus, cut the payroll, and got to the playoffs in only two years for the first time in 17 years.
  12. The think I like about this organization NOW is that they seem to embrace their process; they won't give two goddamns what you think or Dr.Dawkenstein or anyone else. They started a 5th round pick in the middle of playoff push. They could give a **** about "the next 9 months" and how you feel.
  13. If it's the biggest need FOR RIGHT NOW then the rookie should start day one, without exception. I don't see it. And making challenging, stupid comments like "or have you been in a coma" makes you a fool, especially in light of the way I couched my statement.
  14. I realize. Not at 2nd. A RB taken #1 overall? Feh, yeah, I suppose possibly. A GUARD at #2, on that team? It just cannot happen. Especially since there is not that much difference between him and Hernandez or several other offensive interior lineman. It's just stupid to the first order.
  15. As it stands, right now, to win in 2018 and quite possibly beyond, the Bills biggest need is not QB. You had a bad, really bad offensive line that was covered by a mobile QB last year. You could at least make do with McCarron. You cannot make due with what amounts to essentially a back up G, RT, and C. You cannot. I agree with you - the franchise QB isn't on this roster. But QB is not the biggest need, not by a distance in 2018.
  16. If you read someone that starts with some absolutely ridiculous assumptions, turn away. The minute you read 2nd: NYG - Q .... move on to read something else.
  17. Consider perspective. He knew he needed to get to 12 to get some players he wanted; it doesn't say he wants to go further. GR commentator has it bang on. This team puts a value on a player and won't outpay to move up.
  18. I was thinking more from a cash management perspective. From a roster building position, yeah ... I'd agree with ScottLaw and yourself. I would have hoped the team would look to get younger and faster at running back.
  19. Based on some of your higher priorities, it is strange you don't include one of the players lauded for his work under pressure - Mason Rudolph. When I listen to multiple sources (Waldman, for example), he is a fast processor. His footwork within the pocket is considered very good by some. He certainly made the most of plays when he was under pressure, at least by some accounts. Did you even look at him, or just work with the commonly accepted beliefs? Curious.
  20. from your perspective, does a signing like this generally preclude taking a RB in the later rounds?
  21. so ... you ask when they hinted that they'd be willing to trade out of the first spot, I answer, and you have this sarcastic response. Look, the GM said - with a smile on his face - that he was open for business. This was after he already made one stupid trade. Either don't ask the question in the first place or leave out the stupid response.
  22. You are right; I probably am a bit off in the regard of bringing up the politics. Thanks.
