They could have made the cap work in other ways without getting rid of probably their best corner. There seems to have been something else going on there though.

He's certainly a good player. I don't really know what led to them trying to trade him/cutting him so I'd want to know what that's all about but assuming there's no major issue there, I wouldn't be surprised if he's out of our price range. If he's willing to take like $4 mil or less, I'd probably be interested.

Anybody up for Rondale Moore in Buffalo?
DCOrange replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in College Football
I feel comfortable saying that if he or Iffy Melifonwu are available at our 2nd round pick, they should be the choice. I tend to think someone will take Rondale much earlier than that. Iffy I think there's a real chance but we'll see. I'd be comfortable taking Rondale at #30 too but I don't expect us to go that route at this point. Joseph Ossai is firmly on my radar for #30. I'm sure I'll add others to the list as the draft gets closer but that's kinda where my head is at with those 3 prospects right now. -
Yeah, it was one of those situations where player and coach just disagreed on how he should be utilized. Oshae thought he needed to play on the perimeter more to prove that his game could translate to the NBA and Boeheim wanted him inside because that was so clearly where he was at his best for us.

I totally forgot about Griffin, but yes, I do think he has a chance at the NBA. I think he may be transferring out of Syracuse at the end of the year though. I fully expect Guerrier to test the NBA waters and see what his stock is looking like before he decides whether or not to return. I'm not confident he'd be drafted this year though so I'm pretty hopeful we'll get one more year out of him. I don't think he hates it here the way Brissett did so I don't think he'll rush himself to the NBA if he looks unlikely to be drafted. Edit: Lydon and McCullough were viewed as likely 1st round picks so it made a lot of sense for them to go pro. Grant was a potential 1st rounder and a lock to be picked and his family needed the money so he left. Brissett just didn't like it here and didn't think he was developing the way he needed to so he figured he might as well try his luck with professional coaches/training programs.

I'll be surprised if Kadary doesn't end up on NBA radars either next year or the year after. His defense, passing ability, poise, and size as a ball-handler is going to get him looks just like it did MCW. He's the most promising guy on the roster right now in terms of NBA prospects. Guerrier's development as a shooter is huge for his prospects. I'm curious to see if he ends up getting drafted at some point. He seems to be what we had hoped Oshae Brissett might be for us. If Buddy can sustain himself as a 40+% shooter, I think he'll get a shot to earn a place in the league like Matt Thomas and Duncan Robinson did but we'll see. I don't think anyone else on the roster has NBA potential (barring someone currently marginal like Edwards, Anselem, or Newton developing a lot in the near future).

I think Beane is once again setting us up so that we don't feel like we're forced to reach for a need in the draft and can instead see what talent falls to us. Having said that, I do still think Joseph Ossai for example has the traits that Beane likes in a prospect. As a Syracuse fan, I'm definitely rooting for Melifonwu to be an early selection. I don't think I'd take him at #30 personally, but he'd be my choice with our 2nd round pick if he's still around at that point. Like Adebo, he killed his pro day today. 6'2.5", 4.48 40, 41.5" vert, 11'2" broad jump; he's an athletic freak like his bust of a brother was. I suppose in a relatively weak CB draft at the top, a guy with his traits and flashes could potentially sneak into the 1st round.

Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
DCOrange replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Certainly would not have improved our run blocking. -
I had the same thought but the Twitter world is saying it's 9+4.

Seems to me that Hollister is enough so that Buffalo won't feel like they need to reach on a TE in the draft or give up a priority draft pick for a TE but not so good or expensive that it would prevent us from grabbing one if the price is right. I.e. Ertz for a 3rd round pick? No, but Ertz for a Day 3 pick or if Ertz gets cut? Sure.
-
That was Allen's junior year that he had nothing around him, and that's being nice to the definition of nothing. It looked like a peewee football team against college athletes. They actually had quite a bit of talent his sophomore year when he had Gentry, Hollister, Hill, and 1 or 2 NFL linemen around him.

This is the disconnect. Juju is very good and would have been a huge upgrade as their #2 WR (and #3 target in the passing game). Hill out wide, Kelce at TE, and Juju in the slot would have been devastating. They haven't been able to find a consistent threat at WR outside of Hill and Juju would have given them that.
-
I guess? Gonna be splitting targets in Pitt anyways though. I think he likely gets about the same number of targets in any of those systems. Can't knock the guy for taking less money to stay somewhere he's comfortable though.

Turning down more money from KC and Baltimore is interesting.

Bears interested in Isaiah McKenzie
DCOrange replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems like a weird fit for him but I would imagine it comes down to money if he leaves Buffalo. Can't say I'll be sad to see him go but I wish him the best. -
I don't think he's generally considered a good pass blocker or pass catcher out of the backfield. I like him a lot as a player but I'm not sure he's really a good fit here; perhaps as a direct replacement for Singletary but I've thought what we're really missing is a Jamaal Williams type and that isn't Lindsay.

Will Christian Wade make the Bills' final 53 in 2021?
DCOrange replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would vote 0% if given the choice but 0-25% will have to suffice. I'd be really surprised if he makes it. -
He didn't really play at all last year so hard to say but he was still very good the year before. I believe he'll be coming off a shoulder injury or something.

Available players released from other teams
DCOrange replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure he's the kinda DT we need but I hope he catches on somewhere that he can win some games. -
They went on to have one of the best defenses in the league and tied their best record of the century. I think they would say it did in fact work out very well for them.

Big upgrade at backup QB Great for Barkley as he gets a year in a proven system to develop or possibly even get some good film out there (if god forbid Allen gets hurt) Potentially positions us for a comp pick if a team signs him to a starting QB contract next year?

Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
DCOrange replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
None of the TEs this year (or most years) outside of Kyle Pitts is going to contribute much as a rookie. Buffalo needs a veteran that can play while they continue to develop Knox. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
DCOrange replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They gave Brate a deal that they can get out of for free whenever they want. The local writers there have pretty widely speculated that he'll be cut whenever they need money. Question simply boils down to whether or not they need that money this year. Howard has been very good when healthy but he's dealt with a lot of injuries. Either guy would instantly be the #1 TE here though and likely wouldn't cost as much financially or asset-wise as Ertz. -
I'll always have a soft spot for Gruden after he helped lead the Bucs to a Super Bowl but man some of the stuff they do is completely indefensible.
