I haven't finished scouting Lance yet, but based on what I've read and seen so far, he sounds like the best fit for the Shanahan system (outside of Lawrence who is obviously out of reach). I don't think Fields is a good fit at the moment, but his physical skills are so great that maybe Shanahan thinks he can help him turn himself into a better fit for them. I just don't see how they can really justify taking Mac to be honest; I don't think he brings anything to the table right now that they don't already have in Jimmy and I don't expect him to become a better QB than Jimmy long-term either. Re: Tua, Tua was a far superior prospect IMO and I think people have been unfairly harsh on him for just being okay last season while coming back from a gruesome injury and playing with a weak supporting cast.
-
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. The way I currently view it is: 1-3: All QBs, my guess is Lance is #3 but I know all the buzz is on Mac right now. 4-7: Sewell, Chase, Pitts, and a QB in some order That would mean Waddle and Devonta have to be taken in the 8-11 range and I think we can cross Dallas and NYG off the list for another WR and probably Denver as well so either someone has to trade up ahead of Philly for a WR or one of them will be there IMO.
-
Horn definitely won't last to 30, but I do think he could slide past Philly. I expect one of the WRs to fall in Philly's lap at 12 and I think that'll be very difficult for them to turn down.

Curious if any of the other draft scouts here have really looked at the QB position. Obviously not a need for us, but I always focus most of my time on the QBs just for fun and ended up with an early 3rd round grade on Mac.

Not Scoop but back when he played for us and we had those weird gray and neon Orange jerseys, I got one of those jerseys autographed by Boeheim and have it framed in my house

Was able to find some full game videos of at least a couple of our recruiting targets yesterday. I'm too busy with QB film to really dive into it now, but I watched like half a game of Chance Westry and Quadir Copeland. It shouldn't really be surprising considering his recruiting rank, but Chance looks great. Seems to handle and pass the ball as well with his left hand as his right, can get into his pull-up jumper smoothly, and in general has a nice handle on the ball. I know some people are super high on Quadir; I've seen some say he's a 5 star talent that just hasn't popped on the scene yet (he's currently ranked around 150 in his class on 247) and a lot of fans think he's the kind of PG we haven't had at SU in a long time. The half of a game I watched was from about a year ago, so maybe he's improved since then (or maybe it was just a bad game), but he seems to have a very shaky handle on the ball. I think he had 7 turnovers in the first half alone, and all but one of them was just him losing his handle, sometimes without even being impacted by the defender. There were a couple other times too where he didn't turn it over but simply had a hard time picking his dribble up or kinda bobbled the ball as he tried to branch into different moves. He definitely shows flashes of really nice passing vision but I'm not sure he's a PG yet with his handle, much less a great one. Does a nice job of using his long legs to create better angles for himself when he's driving though. I'm really curious to see more of him because he just didn't look nearly as good as I expected based on what I've heard from other people. I definitely remember it being reported as a heart attack.

Best at taking charges that we've had since Fab Melo (RIP) who was also one of my absolute favorites ever to watch
-
Replacing he and Kadary's passing next season is not going to be an easy task. Definitely one of my favorite players ever too; still remember watching his grainy European footage when he committed to us out of the blue.
-
Are you saying Kamari reminds you of Malachi or Chance? Have you heard anything on Chance lately? I haven't heard anything since probably like October or November, but back then, I had been told we had more or less moved on from him. The only PG I've heard mentioned recently for us is Quadir Copeland.
-
Welp, we just landed a top 40 recruit out of nowhere lol. Not totally nowhere but there hadn't been an update on him in awhile and he just committed out of the blue. https://247sports.com/Player/Kamari-Lands-46059436/ I would like to revise my "Not expected to land anyone outside of an 80-100 ranked guy in the 2022 class" statement from before lol I thought he was headed to UConn to be honest. Love that he'll hopefully get to beat up on them instead.

Benny seems to be an awesome get. I haven't watched him personally as I can't find any of his team's games, but from everything I've read, he sounds like the real deal. I want to see us continue bringing in big time recruits like him. Kadary was on that level IMO but obviously we ended up screwing that up. Seems like we got unlucky with Bazley and Dior in recent years. I don't think it's a safe bet that we climb out of the relative rut that we've been in (not like we've totally bottomed out or anything, but being a bubble team every year is disappointing to me) but it's entirely possible that we could rebound from this. I think we're probably at least 2 years away from me feeling like the program is headed in the right direction again. Edit: I don't get the sense that we really expect to land anyone like Benny in the 2022 class; seems like we have a pretty decent shot at a guy in the 80-100 range, but everyone else that we feel decently good about is outside the top 100 (though that can obviously change over the next year).

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Seton Hall and Syracuse are both generally around the top 40 or so at this point. Last year's Seton Hall team was probably better than any of our recent teams. At any rate, both of our programs are just annual bubble watch teams at this point with no hopes of being a true contender. We aren't exactly an NBA factory anymore either. Our last 1st round pick was Lydon and our last NBA player of any relevance was Jerami Grant 8 years ago. The NBA doesn't really care where you play anymore; they'll find guys anywhere. If Kadary plays the way he did for Syracuse this year but does it with more minutes that he'll likely be getting at Seton Hall, he'll end up in the NBA. He was already getting NBA buzz this season despite coming off the bench behind Girard.
-
Eh. I think he likely gets to the first round whether he's at Syracuse or (insert lowly D1 school here). Seems like the decision here was coming off the bench for a top 40ish team vs. starting for a top 40ish team. Seems like he made a good choice to me; hopefully he beats up on UConn before he leaves. The tricky part is that it seems like pretty much all of our minutes next year are likely spoken for at this point between Girard, Buddy, Benny, Swider, Jesse, Symir, and Jimmy (and especially so if Guerrier or Griffin return as well). I'm not sure we're likely to land other good transfers with little playing time to offer and if we land any late-deciding freshmen, there's a pretty good chance they just ride the bench and look for their next transfer destination next year like we're experiencing with last year's freshmen class now. We're in a tough position right now with little playing time to offer but a lot of available scholarships.

Woody Newton officially transferring. And Kadary Richmond has officially chosen Seton Hall.

Who is the one player you DON’T want the Bills to draft @30
DCOrange replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of the options that seem realistic (i.e. we’re not taking a QB), I would be most upset by a RB or TE at 30; particularly Travis Etienne. -
Yes, that's a lock at this point. And it would be the first time since 1999 when Couch, McNabb, and Akili Smith were the top 3. Could potentially be the first time ever that the top 4 picks are QBs as well.
-
Wonder if this means anything for Anselem. Big for us if Sidibe can finally stay healthy though.
-
Not really a traditional cover of it, as he only sings for like 30 seconds, but this one has stuck with me for the past 5 years or so since I first saw it. Also, not sure it's better as I love the original, but I love this version too:
-
So if I'm doing the math right and my assumptions are correct, we should have 4-6 more scholarships available to play around with for the rest of the roster. This is based on the following roster (which is what I would assume we're likely to end up with, but things could change): PG: Girard SG: Buddy SF: Benny PF: Swider C : Jesse Symir Torrence (both guard spots) Jimmy Boeheim (both forward spots) One of Anselem/Sidibe (center) Chaz Owens (probably won't play) Sidibe won't require a scholarship either way, so we might be able to keep him as a player while also having that scholarship free. I definitely do not think we will use all 13 scholarships this year (or at least not on real scholarship players; maybe we'll do a walkon or two a solid for a year), but we should be able to add a couple more recruits be it through transfers or late HS commitments. The trouble is that assuming Jimmy does transfer in and that one of the C's stay, that'll pretty much be all of our playing time spoken for so it'll be tougher to pitch to transfers.

Rondale Moore.....trade down and snag this monster.

Moore is the best athlete. Probably the better football player of the 3 as well but the injury history is troubling and I think that generally pushes Toney ahead of him on draft boards. -

He really didn't. He went from 97 yards per game on 11 yards per catch as a freshman to 93 yards per game on 10.3 yards per catch the last two years. He's been one of the best WRs in college football whenever he's been on the field; he just hasn't been on the field nearly enough the past two years to put him up there with the other top WRs in this class. I agree that WR isn't a need in the short-term, but there's a pretty good chance that (if he doesn't get hurt again), he could replace McKenzie as a rookie and Beasley/Sanders are likely only here in the short-term. We're lucky to be a team that doesn't need to reach for any particular need/can look more long term. I'm not going to bang on the table for us to take a WR like I would have in years past with DK for example, but I'd be much happier to take a WR like Bateman, Toney, or the Moores than taking a RB at 30. I'm probably hoping for an edge, corner, OLine, or one of those first two WRs though if I had my choice. -

I’m not saying we should just shrug off the injuries...The injury history is very concerning. But he’s clearly a very productive player if you can physically get him on the field. Very much a high risk high reward prospect. -

It’s not that he’s produced little. He’s just been hurt. Still putting up almost 100 yards a game when healthy. -

I would be on board with Rondale (or a few other WRs) at 30. Certainly a risk with his injury history but he’s very talented. -
Cole is definitely a shooter. I have no doubt about that. I definitely have doubts about him creating shots himself, but if we get him, we can use him in that Lydon role offensively with pick and pops or my favorite: screening the screener to free him up. I think he’ll definitely add a dimension to the team we were lacking with Dolezaj/Quincy as our big men (though other aspects of their game will be sorely missed) Jimmy has generally been a pretty poor shooter. No doubt Benny should theoretically be able to replace some of the shot creation, but barring internal developments (which I’m optimistic about with Buddy but not so much the rest), it’s probably going to be worse than it was this past year. Also, the optimistic part of this is our offense was quietly very very good this past season; Jim did a much better job than past years of having a real offensive system to generate ball movement and open looks for players that would otherwise struggle creating shots. If we can maintain the offense or come close, that would be great. The defense was our weakness the majority of the year.
