Beasley's the kind of role reciever every team should have. Don't even think it's too early to say it, he's proven what he can do in this league and we absolutely needed WRs. Brown's a good signing too. Even if we just need more bodies at WR at least we finally went for veterans (instead of being sold on 2.5 years of Panther Kelvin Benjamin) Anyways it's hard to put the Rodgers label on any quarterback. He had seasons of winning 10 games with any group around him.. pretty much a one man show.

Who is your slightly surprising cut?
Bing Bong replied to JohninMinn.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honest question, what skill set was Zay supposed to have when we drafted him? I figured at the time given his catch rate in college he'd come out as a Brandon Marshall possession type reciever but that might be the worst aspect of his game. I used to think his poor hands was a mental thing after his rookie year but now that I've seen 2 years I might chalk up all his college catches to having some noodle armed quarterback. -
Haha. That must have been on his wiki since 2012 when I looked him up. I figured they'd have changed it after any other notable update occured. Still the first thing people should know about him I guess.

who on here is taking dukes at the Bills stadium?! Not a bad Bills one, "You are being rebuilt to be mediocre with DIGNITY. McDermott and GM Brandon Beane are very Serious Football Men to notice them doing Serious Football things. McDermott will get half a dozen fluff pieces written about the "program" he's trying to create, even when the Bills are 2-6."

Lol. Truthfully I don't get the sentiment here that Cole should be our leading WR. I mean sure, with Cooper Kupp type production we might be effective but best case scenario is Foster just taking off and jelling with JA. He can still be our best WR and, frankly, we won't even be close to shoring up that position group if he isn't. Cole Beez and Brown give us solid reliable pass catchers.. really the kind of players every team should have at WR2/3. But Foster was on a tear for a moment last year and him being the runaway WR1 makes Brown and Cole's responsibilities far more reasonable considering their careers so far. Foster can do it all. Cole can help out with the body shots and move the chains. He a security blanket.. still needs a more dynamic player paired with him to throw haymakers at the head.

AB's starting to resemble TO's weirdness combined with Randy Moss's no craps given. He's well on his way to becoming the ultimate diva WR (I still have to grant the reigning title to Randy "I play when I want" Moss). Stephen A Smith is the king of sports talk show television right now. Seems nothing is ever decided until SAS decrees it to be so. I like Max Kellerman because I can just imagine how futile it feels having to debate every day against the one man who has the ultimate say so on everything sports. I probably prefer Skip just cause he's not on the ESPN throne. SAS is funny and all but it's hard to really care what he has to say since you know no one will ever call him out or disagree with him. His show is just "Stephen A Smith Lords Over Puny Sports Pundits".

What if Matt Barkley gets hurt?
Bing Bong replied to mushypeaches's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But then what if EJ Manuel gets hurt? OP I guess if we run the gamut of several Bills QBs getting hurt, first order of business is to make sure they're not throwing medicine balls around in practice -

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -
So you're just ignoring the demand side of the equation. Does the customer set a price to buy at? No technically the seller sells at the price to sell at. Does this mean the customer has no influence on the price? No, the price is really dictated by the free market. NFL teams operate in a free market. Provided they want to win just like a seller wants a profit. why do players demand and get trades despite no obligation from the team to make that trade.. because the player has influence.. or leverage on the team to make that happen. Just because teams dictate the contracts doesn't mean they can operate with impunity given they have an ulterior motive to win.
-
-----> C) Both teams and players have leverage in negotiations <---- This isn't rocket science man. There's no obligation, but it's just an inherent part of teams trying to build good football rosters. What am I kidding about lol. Humor me, I agree with A) and B). Teams don't do anything against their interest BUT.. neither do players. Right? Cause there's 2 sides inking all these deals? All I am asking is that you believe a team is affected.. in any way.. by the player's side of the bargaining table. Because my talking points were always based on the silly notion players have leverage. And you seem to keep refuting that with "no contract power = no leverage" - Just because players can not change their own contracts means they have no influence on what their contracts might become? If you feud in contract disputes often, the player seeks FA. If you lose games, as too many players hold out, you may have your hand forced to re-negotiate. A player may simply be unhappy with his deal, be a locker room cancer, under-perform. Ultimately you'd be a crappy team if you can't negotiate for your own interests of acquiring and retaining good players. If Zeke holds out first 3 weeks, Cowboys go 0-3, Zeke may re-sign at some point halfway. It's a game of chicken and I just want to make sure you're acknowledging with me that Zeke has just a sliver of leverage. Whatever leverage you want to assign him, but Zeke has some impact on how he gets paid lol. Contract law has nothing to do with this: are the cowboys the exact same team without Zeke? Noooooooo. <-- that's leverage.

It's 'just' the concussion tho right? (As in that's the only injury?) I didn't think 4 games would be a possibility.. could be severe or Mitch has a long history with the injury? Either way that really sucks, even after he's healed from this one.. the injury will just be cumulative and jeopardize him even playing to the end of his contract if he doesn't personally want to deal with much more blows. I didn't know Mitch was at this point in his career already. Reaaaaally don't want to see Bodine in there. I like that TJ Ford can slide between RG and RT tho hope he's versatile. the President?

Raiders officially selected for Hard Knocks

I'm expecting good entertainment from AB this Hard Knocks season. Man needs his balloon and other props. -
Raiders officially selected for Hard Knocks
Bing Bong replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This could be the best Hard Knocks yet boys. It's basically as entertaining as the HC allows it to be. Gruden's the kind of guy that would bug every inch of the Raiders facility to get as much screen exposure as possible. -
I don't understand the moral outrage assigned to completing a really dry piece of paper. This isn't some romantic use of honor. It's a contract detailing money in exchange for service. "But what about the honor!"
-
They re-negotiate to retain players. I mean obviously Zeke and Gordon have little recourse here. But FOH with knowing contract law lol. Contract law can't coerce these guys into doing anything should they want to hold out. Players can win these if the team wants to maintain a positive future relationship within a reasonable amount. I don't particularly care but my opinions on RB contracts don't have anything to do with dry contract law. If the Hulk is a RB, he gets extended to what he wants because he's so good whoever has him pays no one else and watches Hulk smash. Hulk's leverage makes his holdout more impactful.
-
SMH if you think this is about contract law. A contract is an agreement of fees for services. That's it... you're also allowed to re-negotiate contracts during it's length by holding out, or other means. The team agreed to this when they offered the deal. DONE. Get over it. Fees for services. Both sides can get together to bang out a new one and it happens all the time.. in any profession. In many rarely is a contract honored, expected to be honored, nor is there any moral outrage when a contract is not honored. Stop assigning moral outrage to a piece of paper that more often than not does not reflect what will actually happen over the term. The deal doesn't stand when you re-negotiate! Yes the last contract is binding.. until nixed by new negotiations. You understand that more often than not contracts do not end up at the originally agreed to length, original agreed to amount, a contract is really just telling you how much somebody is making at the very present. You and I both know this is very poor reflection of what earnings will actually be 5 years later on a 5 year deal. Because the team terminates the contract. Because both team and player will likely want a new mutual contract by then. Because the player no longer wants to play anymore. Fees for services. You can't coerce a contract to be performed.
-
People that want to complain about money grubbing athletes at every instance a talented player seeks contract negotiations.
-
So if a team can franchise tag a player after he "honors his contract" with a designation he can only sign with them, on their terms.. effectively extending the contract he worked so hard to honor, why can't that player similarly seek a contract on their terms a year earlier? Why do contracts only have to be honored by the player while teams can cut him showing no such honor? Contract is a promise of future services for money. Either side can dispute if they aren't getting what they signed. I think LeVeon Bell helped them understand that they could get ran into the ground after "honoring their contract" then placed on consecutive franchise tags so billionaire Jerry Jones can save a buck while these guys struggled and made it to a league where they can get their biggest pay day for their very brief careers. That's the blueprint the Steelers were going to set. Squeeze out the mileage of your guys with 2 franchise tags because the Steelers aren't "honoring their contract" by giving Bell a deal. Give a guy 400 carries a year for 6 seasons straight and toss him cause he's too old. They'll both crack. But they're both sending signals early that this won't be the first time. And I know they're sending signals not to be franchise tagged. Where's the honor in a team just deciding to force a 1 year contract after you've honored their actual deal. If the team can renege on these things let the players do the same. And they're asking for more money, not retiring lol. Retiring is leaving money out to dry. I'd personally like more money if I knew several other employers would offer me the deal I'm looking for due to my merit and hard work. But that's just me.

BURN! this was for his teammates y'all. If my teammate rolled up like that I'm laugh my *** off. And we'd both know it's extra funny because people (on sports forums that take out the the raisins in their raisin bran) will bellyache about him. And the Jags can bond over this hilarious moment. That they trolled the kind of guy that thinks making an entrance in entertainment is a sign of.. anything football related. I like this dude cause he ticks so many off, except for his teammates. "Hey Jalen! What do you think Stephen A Smith us gonna say about this tomorrow?" "Idk but given his track record, something WRONG"

J. Palmer on Allen ‘blue collar, work ethic, farmer’
Bing Bong replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's great. That's where I thought he could improve most effectively in an offseason. Situational awareness and IQ knowing what passes need to have a little more finesse. Something you can easily coach to a rookie I think that'll create a good bump in his completion % in one off-season. That's great. J. Palmer on Allen ‘blue collar, work ethic, farmer’
Bing Bong replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A blue collar guy like Josh Allen probably wears his hard hat to work, metaphorically so to speak. Brings his Bob the Builder Lunchpail to work everyday. No frills, just a construction toy set that comes with a popout straw that looks like copper piping. That's character. Bob the Builder should be Bills patron saint. Josh Allen's blue collar lunchpail. Comes with a popout straw and a double decker sandwich container inside. No frills. Just the grit of getting the job done just like he's working in construction. My biggest vice is visiting this forum compulsively during Bills season. Usually drunk and beligerent after a loss. Can't ignore genetics. Here's to happy drunk posts this season following wins ?
