  1. Deadspin died because the writers quit y'all. Not because they weren't doing well. The new ownership wanted them to write about sports only. The writers spammed out political articles and quit in protest. In other words, removing politics, if anything, killed Deadspin. Doesn't matter. Sports websites live and die from the writer's fan base. Like Grantland -> The Ringer. These people will still be writing somewhere. SBNation and Barstool Sports likely.
  2. I always imagined New Orleans' bourbon street would be a problem for some athletes What is he on IR for? Just a formality?
  3. I wonder if Bill Walsh had stuck with the 49ers maybe he and Steve Young would have had a little more success. It helps there was never any clear succeeding dynasty like Dallas stonewalling San Fran at least batting .500 with the Pats. Also has me realize Beli's longevity. Coaches in the past couldn't adapt to the game for so long. I don't see the league changing as much in this last 20 year stretch as it did in NFL past. But we don't really have the perspective at the moment. Maybe it has. But lot of current coaches up there in wins: that could help some future dynasty be able to have the longevity Beli's had as well. Really the hypotheticals you can play with San Fran in the past makes me think this won't be unprecedented. Same reason I don't think the Bills 4 SBs in a row is that impossible. There's like 7 teams in history (Dolphins, Vikings, Cowboys, Bills, Pats x2, Broncos) that made 3 out of 4 lol. It'll be matched.. even if the Pats don't get it done now.
  4. Funny, I figure at the beginning of the year most here would have liked Allen over Watson. Just homerism really but I was pretty high on Watson myself. I remember the announcers even mentioning that TD throw as one of those potential MVP plays you see several times over if he keeps up winning.
  5. I'm pretty sure it will be impossible for them to score points. At least offensively
  6. Eh that's definitely in your head about neutral fans not thinking anything of the 5-2 record. Of course we were just 5-1 but really any fan with a worse record ain't gonna have ***** on us. Most people don't care for SoS because they themselves have the most head scratching losses. I understand the thought tho. But really only us and Philly actually gave a **** and have scrutinized our season closely. Still probably have statistically one of the best defenses. Packers did too when they played Philly. The NFL especially this year has seen so much change (starting QBs for one) that they're looking for the next juggernaut dynasty to come out of nowhere and replace the Pats. I mean SF's record for one is one record that I completely missed on. The upheaval is pretty fun to see. Observations from Texas.
  7. What on Earth.. that'd drive me crazy, dude think he's much more clever than all the other coaches or something
  8. DeShaun Watson is something else. And they've done a good job of maintaining a good team around him even if they have a few flaws he is good enough to take care of the rest. He's also the only young QB i've seen absolutely gash Beli's defense to the point Beli knows not to ever draw up the Cover 0 blitz he uses so much on the likes of Sam Darnold the other night and Pat Mahomes last year. Will throw it deep, audible max protection, and hits his guy.
  9. I find this a bit dismissive of Jared Goff's pure arm talent which is nonetheless impressive for any NFL QB. Add in how Baker, Deshaun Watson, Lamar Jackson, Pat Mahomes, Dak, and Wentz too have all solidified their role as franchise QBs and this new generation has quickly taken over the league: you make playoffs and you prove a football team can win with you as QB.. you've bought yourself time and credibility. They have all earned starting spots for a very long time and that's what I'm evaluating. This hasn't happened in a decade. They're ultra confident , competitive, and athletic. Just luck of the draw. Reminds me of the Brees, Brady, Rivers, Big Ben, Eli, Peyton, Rodgers generation succeeding Elway, Young, Marino, Kelly, Aikman. And there were few great quarterbacks in the interim like Favre, Cam, Matt Ryan. Sometimes they come in bunches but that confident mentality is the intangible that helps them break through in such a mentally draining position IMO. I think it's more nature than nurture. I also think it's tougher to break into a league where so many veterans can consistently outclass you which is why these classes build each other up with their success. Lamar Jackson feels more comfortable competing alongside DeShaun Watson and other contemporaries. They see each other winning. Early success is also important with or without actual good QB play. Lot of those greats were winning early as game managers, like Brady, Big Ben, or at least later given time and handed a better team like Eli.
  10. It's a good thing dual threat quarterbacks aren't all the rage in the NFL right now eh.. Oh wait And absolutely. Our Peterman games last year had the defense pretty much given up on the game 1st drive.
  11. Right wouldn't he do so much better if he wasn't blanketed by the league's All-Pro defenders every week? A WR1 bumps everybody down to the matchup they really should be having.
  12. Yeah I'll just say Josh Allen needs more separation from his WRs than most QBs and the WRs certainly get less than most.. even if it's the first read it'd be nice to have WRs just be better than the CB lined opposite. Helps out every QB.. and that's actually something a lot in the league can expect from their 1st read. Like this isn't some rare luxury to ask for - WRs earning more pay than the CB opposite. And the Eagles could have the league worst CBs.. and Josh Allen has played really poorly for his part
  13. Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
  14. He has a rocket arm. Walk It To Him Wentz cause his passes might as well be hand offs. Great nickname. Just a really good quarterback actually haha I don't have the same praise for his opposing QB today yet
  15. Uh-oh is this defense going to start getting exposed by rushing QBs.. Cause there's a bunch of them in the league right now.
  16. They're just all culpable man. You really see many players/coaches involved in the offense that would be doing a bangup job somewhere else? It's like the Cardinals just completely blaming everyone involved and scrapping it all last off-season.
  17. Oh yeah dude has been great with the offense. Think Schwartz is pretty much in charge of their dog crap defense.
  18. I'm almost convinced just every facet of this offense is NFL poor. No point in passing the blame to one group. WR's can't get very open consistently for a QB that needs more separation than most. Yuck
  19. An idiot he is but those are the ones I really root for to pull it together
  20. Ugh barf. I think Diggs is a solid WR but that's a Kings random for the dude
  21. Honestly Drew Brees is probably the only quarterback I can think of recently who was as close as you can get to winning a SB singlehandedly as a QB. That roster was one of the weakest I remember. I"m sure some of Brady's deserve credit but screw him. System QB. The other QBs all had absolutely stacked rosters.. Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre only ever sniffed a SB when the stars aligned. Big Ben, Russell Wilson, early on were game managers. Kurt Warner had HOFers all over the offensive side. Stat Padford had none of that ish.
  22. I don't totally understand this question because by asking if we want Stafford's career to a tee we're basically asking if we wish we were Lions fans the past 10 years. By that definition I don't really want Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Ladanian Tomlinson, Barry Sanders, or Dan Marino's career. Anyways I would love Stafford's career. I'd love Marino's career because.. they'd both have probably won chips landing on 10 other franchises. Victims of circumstance. Both quarterbacks could have us Superbowl bound right now.
  23. Levitre looked like hot garbage when he left the Bills IIRC. Of course so did Byrd. Ooh I love me some Robey-Coleman
