Good Read!!! I can stand with you on the contracts but Benard not so much. He is not built to be an NFL inside line backer and gets pushed around too much (i.e. Ravens game). I know Frazier was the DC during the Bengals debacle but players have also said at the time they were spent, emotionally because of Damar, and all the weather delays and what not. So I would give the whole team a pass on that. It would have been cool if they won but that is a lot for a team to go through. I am ok with not trading for a WR but we need to draft more period. And not in the 5-7th round we should be drafting one WR in rounds 1-3 every year here on out until JA17 retires. Maybe even 2 this year alone. I am ok with that. At this pace JA17 will take over Dan Marino's spot as the best QB ever to not win a dam thing....and IMO JA17 is that right now.

I do thank you. It is frustrating and I can't talk about this stuff with my wife because she has no clue!! Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I am on the fire Beane and McD train and have been for a while. We have an all-world QB and are not giving him anything to work with. We should be drafting a WR in rounds 1-3 every year until we hit on a #1 not drafting one in round 5 - 7 like they do. Those WR should be a luxury kind of like Elam and Benford were (Elam was the #1 didn't work out and Benford was a 6th round pick in the same year where they hit on). I get the injuries but what happened to next man up. Why don't we have someone else running Kincaid's routes since he has been hurt what about Knox. I feel like we have pieces here that we aren't using properly or getting the most out of them. I know people are down on Coleman but why can't he play the big slot like Kincaid does or Shavers (who can block just as good as Kincaid and can run routes) and put Coleman on the outside. Coleman is more of a slot receiver anyway. Line him up inside lets go four wide with Shavers and Cooke (now) and Shakir and Coleman the two slot spots. Coleman can't separate from a DB too good but he can from a LB. This roster isn't a super bowl roster but we also aren't getting the most out of our players either IMO.

I for one thought Beane was doing a good job in the beginning of his tenure but not so much as of late. Here is my list of why Beane screwed up and why both he and McD need to go. 1. Both are great coaches/GM but as time goes by so does your window of opportunity. As McD said after the Texans game about this roster, he said that while he “loves these players,” he admitted the team doesn’t have what he considers a “super-Bowl-caliber” roster. That is on Beane and paying all the wrong players. I mean look at the guys he signed this year alone: Bosa DE (was killing it but we all knew he would get hurt eventually and miss some games, which he is at the most crucial part of our schedule) Palmer WR (signed a three year deal and was the forth/fifth receiver with the chargers so far he has played 8 games and has 18 catches for 272 yards 0 TDs) Hoecht DE great signing for the game and a half he played was impressed but was suspended the first six games played a little in Carolina and was killing it against KC then got hurt and is out for the season. Ogunjobi DT suspended first six games now playing but probably our worst DT on the roster. Honorable mention Curtis Samuels last year 14 games (only started 2) for 31 catches 253 yards 1 TD; 2025 6 games 0 starts 7 catches 81 yards 1 TD. and we gave that guy $24M for 3 years. 2. Signing the guys he drafted instead of signing players that will help. Here is a list of players Beane Drafted then signed to big contracts: Josh Allen - Franchise QB drafted 2018 (best move Beane ever did) James Cook - RB drafted 2022 (great move but almost lost him to free agency because Beane didn't want to pay him) Khalil Shakir - WR, drafted 2022 (average WR probably paid too much for him 5yr $56M) Christian Benford - CB, drafted 2022 (probably paid him market value 6yr $69M) Greg Rousseau - DE, drafted 2021 (overpaid for a 5 sack a year guy who never got better, 4yr $80M) Terrel Bernard - LB, drafted 2022 (overpaid, 4yr $42M) IMO only 2 of these contracts make sense (Allen, Cook); I can live with 2 (Shakir, Benford); and two I could have done without and used that money somewhere else (Rousseau, Bernard). Bernard is small and gets washed out of a lot run plays, Shaq Thompson makes our Defense way better for only 1.25 million this year. He is bigger stronger and better against the run which forces team to play into our strengths (pass defense). Maybe Bernard will be better in the Malino role but Bernard is hurt a lot also just like Milano. Rousseau is getting paid an average of 20M a year and Bosa is getting paid 12.6M this year and has already proven to be a way better pass rusher then Greg. Greg is in his fifth year and has played in 74 games and has 28 career sacks (not cutting it). For example, Jaelan Phillips drafted right before Greg played in 59 career games and has 27 career sacks. You don't sign a guy because you like him you sign him because he is a good football player. We need to get back to that. 3. Bringing back dead weight over and over again. Retreads Philips, Lawson, White, Davis, Jackson, Poyer, Spector, Broeker (all dead weight if you ask me) when we had guys like Tim Settle (DT Texans now), Puna Ford (DT Seahawks now) both did nothing in Buffalo after signing free agent contracts never got a chance if you ask me and are now killing it with their new organizations. 4. McD hiring from within all the time instead of going outside the organization. Coach McD always hires from within (Brady and Badich) IMO we were better with Daboll and Frazier on the staff running their respective units. It makes me wonder why Daboll and McD had a rocky relationship, and Frazier was fired. I believe McD was responsible for the whole 13 seconds debacle when he played the analytics instead of going with his gut and kicking it inbounds. I want to believe that Frazier was telling him to kick it in bounds to kill some time and when McD's plan backfired he fired Frazier. When Frazier was running the D the opposing team always seemed to have a good opening drive but then Frazier made adjustments, with Badich running the D the opposing team has a good first half and some of the games get away from us, but after the half when the game is already lost he makes adjustments). For example the Atlanta game right before the half with under 2 minutes the Falcons drove right down the field to get into FG range which was almost a TD, and the Texans game right after the Bills scored to get some momentum the Texans went right down the field and scored a TD right before the half. both unacceptable. 5. What is up with all these injuries, I know it happens around the league but dam. Our training staff sucks, or our coaches are being over-protective. 6. What happened to the players being the best version of themselves (remember when JA17 first got here and that was one of the things that lured people in). Now it feels like it is not that anymore and it is do what I say and like it and smile. No top end WR free agent is going to want to come here to run block all the time because that is not what they want to do. They want the ball to make plays not to block.

Let’s talk about this Drake “marvelous “ Maye 😅

Let's see what he does in the snow? -
I am with you on this and good points. I do think that Jordan Philips had 10 sacks one year then got the big money deal from Arizona. But he was not a DE obviously. I think when Hoeth comes back next year also with the two Bosa's it would be good. I am a Garrett fan also don't get me wrong he is awesome. But with all of our above average contracts for mediocre players it would tie our hands for getting free agents and Bean hasn't shown that he can draft great players to fill the void if we were to get Garrett. I honestly would be good either way, but McD's Defense is where DE's come to die just like Brady's offense is where WR come to die.

So as I was watching the game yesterday I had this thought. Rumors had it that Beane didn't trade our first round pick in 2026 hoping the Browns will trade Myles Garrett next offseason and Beane really wants him. But seeing how Joey Bosa is playing, and Nick coming off a torn ACL next year would you rather have both Bosa's at a much lower price with our first round pick in tack, or Myles Garrett and no first round pick? I know we would have to trade for Nick Bosa and we can probably get him for a third and a sixth or something and give the Bosa brothers a chance to play on the same team for a couple years. We would still have our first round pick for a WR hopefully to help JA17 (if Beane wakes up and drafts one). or We would have Myles Garrett a generational talent who is expensive and would tie our hands with his contract to bring in a receiver and we would lose our first round pick to the Browns. I know this is hypothetical and probably will never happen but for me I would take both Bosa brother's for sure. What is your opinion?

Texas A&M WR KC Concepcion.....I hope he is on the Bills radar.
wagne591 replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
I am an Texas A&M fan and have watched most of the games and I am a big fan of KC Concepcion. He reminds me of Diggs (only 2 inches shorter, but weighs the same) he is twitchy, and quick, and has great speed. He would cover two rolls for us at WR and PR (which he is awesome at). He can play outside WR as well which he played 67.4% of his snaps there. I honestly thought he plays just like Diggs. He does have a 11.3% drop rate which is a little high but some of those drops were not on him and were not good throws. I would take him in a heartbeat. Problem is he may not work good if we get stuck with this coaching staff (i.e. Brady and McD wanting to run the ball so much). If we wanted to win we could bring back Daboll as OC and we would have this WR group looking like it was when he was here the first time. Shakir = Beasley Davis/Coleman = Davis Concepcion = Diggs Hardman = Mckenzie Go Bills!!! -
I bet he signs with NE and doubles his production in his first two games there. Not because Moore is that good but because NE has a real OC and knows how to use his guys properly.

Who do we want, who do we need as our next OC/DC?
wagne591 replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think in order for McD to change he needs to let his coordinators dictate the game and roll with the flow as far as in game management goes. He tries to dictate how the game will be played instead of going with the flow of how the game is being played. If he just goes to head coaching and game management I think he will be just fine. Let the coordinator's coach and call plays with the flow of the game. I don't think this will happen though because McD is a control freak. I like a lot of the choices but I am going way outside the box for this one. How about Jimbo Fisher for OC- HC of texas A&M for a few years and ran a pro style offense using his TE's a lot with a mediocre QB (Keleen Mond), he also led Florida State the a National Champ with Jamis Winston. Fisher did call the plays and I think he would do good for Josh. Plus he is a little older and would probably be good at finishing his career here as OC for Allen. And Rex Ryan for DC - I think Rex loved it here in Buffalo and it sucks that it didn't work out for him. I think if he just was responsible for the Defense it would be a good thing. He always had good defense's in Baltimore and the NY Jets and I think Buffalo just got away from him early. I do think he would be good and it looks like he has that coaching itch every time I see him on TV. And McD has to stay out of the sand box and let these guys go to town. Fire away Mafia!!! -
Totally agree with this. This group of coaches is not good at in-game adjustments unless it is at the half which is unsat. I know we are talking about offense but I remember a time when the Bills defense would allow the opposing team to come down on their first drive and score either a TD or FG then we would lock it down after figuring out what they are trying to do. It was Leslie Frazier that did that and he was good at it and it was expected. This staff let the game get away from them in the first half against ATL and HOU and made adjustments at the half rather then in game. The offense doesn't seem to make adjustments or have a back up plan for anything. It is like Brady is playing madden while the rest of the league is playing real life football. The screen works in madden all the time so lets keep running it. If Cook is running the ball so well lets run that play over and over again until they stop it. It is putting so much on film for these Defensive coordinators to figure out and counter before the play is even run. The screen's aren't working anymore...and why isn't Shakir running the small pattern for four yards and turn around for a quick hitter or a slant over the middle and hit the ground like Beasley used to for a quick 4-6 yards. I know we all hated Beasley's RAC ability but some of his catches and hitting the ground make a lot of sense right now and are needed. If Hawes is such a great blocker why can't we line him up in the backfield to help out with blocking and sending Cook/Johnson/or Coleman in the TE spot to chip and run routes with a solidified blocker in the back field. Just thinking outside the box.

I’ve got a question about the offensive game plan: who’s actually calling the shots—McDermott or Brady? I’ve been wondering about this and wanted to hear some opinions. Last week against Tampa, the offense looked creative and explosive, even with backups in key spots. Then last night we went right back to the predictable, run-heavy approach…and we all saw how that ended. So is Brady actually designing the offensive game plan, or is McDermott too involved and getting in the way? Personally, I think it’s McD. He’s a great coach overall and a good team builder bringing men together, but he needs to stay in his lane. To me, he still feels more like a great defensive coordinator than a true head coach when it comes to the whole team and offensive involvement. He would be a great Defensive Coordinator somewhere else and great at it when he can focus only on that. I wish McD would just let Brady do his thing from here on out and stay out of the offense and play Josh ball. We still may have lost last night but at least they would have been having fun IMO. Thoughts???

That is because we can only make adjustments at halftime and not in game. The best thing that happened to this D in the second half was when Benard got hurt (sorry to say and hope he gets better) but Thompson was way better and the Texans run game really wasn't a factor once that happened. McDermott and Beane walk around and act like they have won something...in my eyes they haven't won didley until they win a Superbowl. Fire them all and start over. There is a reason why we bring back a lot of older players because they aren't good enough to sign anywhere else.

our defensive minded head coach is getting schooled by a backup QB. McD needs to go we wasted 5 years of prime Allen and not too many left. Bring Daboll in here to be HC for all I care something different is all. -

Week 10, Bills v. Fish, PREDICT THE SCORE!

30-21 Bills -
Good Morning Bills Mafia, I don't post much but really enjoy all the comments and topics posted every day by the Mafia. Thank you for giving me something to look forward to every day. My question is: Is the Defensive Line Rotation effecting the pass rush at the end of games? In theory it shouldn't for example according the ChatGPT the Eagles and 49ers rotate 4-5 DL regularly to keep guys fresh. And it clearly worked for the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Of course the Eagles have a young DL and can do that. The Bills of the other hand seem to try this theory and it is failing every year. We never get a pass rush in critical times of the game when it counts in the playoffs. Do you think we should keep the rotation like it is? Do you think we should keep rotate but not as much playing the 3rd and 4th string for longer rotations in the early part of the game then switch after the half playing the 1st and 2nd string longer in the second half? Or not rotate at all and let these guys figure the guy out in front of them and present moves that will set them up for later in the game (keeping in mind that they will need a rest at some point but play about 75-85% of defensive snaps)? For me it is kind of conflicting because I want fresh guys on the field, but I don't like seeing a 250 - 330 lbs. man sprint 25 to 35 yards to the sideline about 10 times a game during rotations. I would rather see them save that energy and use it on the man in front of them to disrupt the opposing QB. When I am watching the game and I see a guy start to get in a groove and find a rhythm he doesn't stay of the field long expect if it is James Cook. When he is in a rhythm they feed him the ball constantly (which I like) I would like to see the Bills coaching staff do that for more players other then Cook. Another example is when the Bills were playing the Patriots, it seemed like Kincaid was in a groove beating his guy over and over again throughout the game...why pull him off the field so much to me they should have kept him on the field and run similar plays all game long until the Patriots figured out how to stop it. Sorry I got off topic for a minute. What do you guys think about the Defensive Line rotation? Looking forward to replies. Have a great day Mafia. Go BILLS!!!

I don't post on here much and i can't say i am a football guru when it comes to play calling and formations but I have some thoughts and concerns from an average football knowledge fan and die Hard Bills Fan so please hear me out. The WR position is a concern for me as it is improving all over the lease and that is where the money is. Our draft classes do not reflect that in recent years. I know we have Diggs but lets be honest that is it. When our offense started humming the past two years we also had a vet receiver as the number 2 or backup using Smoke for that roll and Sanders last year as a solid number two. That to me is what made Gabe Davis great as a solid 3. Gabe to me has those games where he either catches everything thrown at him or he drops everything thrown at him, you never know what you are going to get. At least with a veteran #2 we always had another option. This is one of the reasons i would sign OBJ now...not for this year its too late but for next year and draft a WR either in RD 1 or 2. That is would replenish our WR corps real fast just need to find that reliable slot guy then. Imagine Diggs OBJ Davis Shak (who seems to catch everything under the sun just needs to learn the slot position in this offense so Beasley coming back will be big just for that) and a round 1 or 2 pick Our receiver corps would go from a weak point this year to a strong point next year. With just signing OBJ and hopefully you hit on that draft pick but with OBJ here if we miss on the pick next year there is always 2024 and our receiver corps doesn't drop off. That is me. I am also glad and mad we signed Beasley. Glad for our young guys who need a savvy vet and mentor...but mad that Beasley hasn't been on our team all year long. He was kind of the glue that kept the offense going especially on third and short always knew where the soft spot was and Josh trusted him. It makes me wonder how the heck they are using I Mac in the slot. To me (and this is from an average fan who doesn't know how to watch film) it seems like they are always trying to get I Mac the ball while in motion for YAC yards instead of just having him use the speed as a threat and then sitting in the zone knowing that he will probably not get any YAC yards but picking up first downs. That is what Beasley did and we miss. I think if they used I Mac in that form his crossing patterns would be even more dynamic and unpredictable which looks to me like that is what they are now predictable always catching the ball going towards the sideline instead of in the middle of the field. I know this is long and I usually don't break it up into semi paragraphs but i am trying to do better. Thoughts...

If it was up to me (thank god it is not) but I would keep 7 WR's and 3 TE's rather then 4/5 RB's. Keep Touchdown Jesus on the roster for Gunner on ST and another threat when they go 5 wide. Have T. Jones and R. Gilliam battle it out for the #4 RB/ST player. We get more value with an extra WR then we do a RB.

Feeling like Bengals might be "Top Opponent" this year
wagne591 replied to Billsfanatixs's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the Steeler's might surprise this year. Always great defense, second year back Harris will be just fine and the Steeler's will play in a bunch of grind it out defensive battles this year. As for the Bengals, I put them in the same tear are the Steeler's. Not the top dog even in their own division and fighting for a wildcard spot with the Steeler's. -
Devon Achane RB Texas A&M. We have been looking for a speed back that can take it to the house. This is the man has elite speed that you can't teach... and it translates to the football field he had 118 yards rushing in the forth quarter when the defense was tired and his speed shined. This guy is a stud. He can also return kicks all done!!

Poll: Does Ryan Fitzpatrick Belong on the Bills Wall of Fame?
wagne591 replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just because he was a fan favorite doesn't mean he deserves to be on the Wall of Fame. The Wall of Fame is for iconic Bills Players with HOF credentials that might not hold up against the rest of the League as far as the Hall goes but does call for some well deserved recognition from the Bills organization like Darryl Talley, Kent Hull, Fred Smerlas, and Steve Tasker. Not Ryan Fitzpatrick.
