2021 Bills ST coach Heath Farwell joins the Jags
ColoradoBills replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Matt Smiley has been an Assistant ST coach since 2013 and with the Bills since 2017. Maybe it's time for him to get his shot. That is unless some proven ST coordinator is wanting to work for a winner. -
NFL off season restrictions question
ColoradoBills replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I do know that new HCs can start offseason workouts 2 weeks before the rest of the league. If that helps. https://operations.nfl.com/gameday/nfl-schedule/2022-important-nfl-dates/ April 4 Clubs that hired a new head coach after the end of the 2021 regular season may begin offseason workout programs. April 18 Clubs with returning head coaches may begin offseason workout programs -
Yes. But if he stays for this year they take a $9.27M cap hit this year and then the $2.6M next year. That's about $12M for his part time play. If they outright cut him they take a $7.7M to be done with it. That is why I keep saying the Bills should try to work out a retirement deal. Let him keep his signing bonus that they already paid him in return for him giving up his $2.5M guaranteed salary this year. His cap hit this year would be $5.2M and cap savings would be $4M.

Davis Webb on FA visit with NYG (update - signed)
ColoradoBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Smart move by Daboll. Davis would make more on their roster holding a clipboard than on the Bills PS. Webb helping Daniel Jones with Daboll's playbook would be worth the spot. -

The WR FA list for 2022 is very intriguing…
ColoradoBills replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
I do like the number side of the game and usually leave the "who" to those who know more about that than I. My job before retiring was all about presenting numbers and options to my upper management and let them make the hard choices. Although to do that properly you have to have a decent idea how that management thinks. When it comes to having some fun with all this I try to anticipate what Beane might be thinking. Beane restructured $17M last year and opened up another $6M is paycuts. I can see him doing that much again this year and maybe a bit more. It seems to me this year once again has a limited amount of cap chasing a lot of FAs. So there could be some bargains for a team like Buffalo to sign some decent players even with a tight cap. What I wish I knew is what the leagues GMs think the "big bump" in cap could be after the new TV contracts are signed for 2023. -
Spotrac has Levi Wallace valued @ $9M/yr. Thoughts?
ColoradoBills replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
An extreme example is the Chiefs and Orlando Brown last season. He signed a $3.4M one year contract. Spotrac has his FA value at $23.3M this year. Whether or not people think he's worth that, he sure is getting a lot more than $3.4M. -

Could there be an argument made that the play designs minimized YAC? I'm not saying it's the only reason just asking. -

There does seems to some evidence that they can pick out CB talent very well. If that is the case, you make a great point. -

Could very well be true RP. -

With the cap getting lowered due to Covid it seems a lot of FAs were underpaid last year. While I have just started comparing last year to this year it seems to me that there is limited amount of money chasing a lot of FAs again this year. I'm hoping Beane can find some good players for a reasonable cost. -

While a good argument could be made that $9M is too high it just shows that generally speaking FAs are often overpaid. While there are exceptions to every rule the age old view of building through the draft and use FAs to plug holes with a select small number of high dollar FAs seems to be true. Well, true to me IMO. -
Mac Jones "lights" up the skills contest
ColoradoBills replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I guess for me I do care. I care about the quality of all QBs in the AFCE. Not obsession but I will for some time now and in the future want to especially see NE have issues at QB. I think a better term is "revenge". Josh Allen is a Bills fan's revenge for all those Tom Brady years. So now that it seems the shoe is on the other foot I will take every win the Bills can hand the Patriots with more pleasure than most other teams. See the "term" I used above. -
There was a little Mom and Pop takeout pizzeria in South Cheektowaga on William St called "Bon-Eds". Hands down the best I ever had. Went out of business 25 years or so ago and everyone wishes the recipe was passed down to someone else. Truly a lost treasure.

Athletic article forecasting our cap casualties

Bates is a RFA. Bills own his rights. I'm betting on a 2nd round tender. -
Athletic article forecasting our cap casualties
ColoradoBills replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I can see all these guys potentially being cap casualties. A couple of these guys may be asked first to take a pay cut. Beane got 3 players to take pay cuts last year and I think he goes for that again. Williams was signed as a RT and has been "demoted" (at least for salary wise) to RG. I can see him taking a $1M to $2M cut. If Star was cut it's only $1.5M cap savings but if he decides to retire and the Bills let him keep his signing bonus but then he gives up another $2.5M in 2022 guaranteed salary of dead cap. A result of $4.0M in cap savings and not having him on the 2023 roster I think is worth it. Beane also will do some modest restructures. -
If Beane and McDermott trade him I guess I would be shocked. I do see you point though. No. His previous signing bonus and guaranteed salary could be reclaimed. What could happen (and has happened) is a player on the "retirement" fence comes to an agreement with the team. The result is the player keeps some of the bonus/guaranteed money and the team recaptures the rest.

I'm not one wanting to trade him either. I was just giving the new rules on 5th year option players.
