Roquan Smith has requested a trade
ColoradoBills replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree. Edmunds stays or Bernard takes over. It's up to Edmunds to prove his worth this year. -
I just posted about that in the Depth Chart thread. I would like to hear your opinion on my post.

OK this thread is better than any to discuss Kumerow. I also want to add I was very hopeful when he came to Buffalo but this is a playoff/high powered offense coming this season. First let's look at Jake as a WR. In his 2 years in Buffalo, he has a total of 3 catches on 7 targets for 50 yards, 1 TD on 133 snaps. The word we hear from his low WR numbers is he has a hard time getting separation. He's 30 years old and anyone thinking he will "break out" as a good WR in the NFL is fooling themselves IMO. Second let's look at Jake on ST. In 2020 Jake was not a "core" player on ST but evidently played well on his 95 snaps (21%) for the Bills. He also was never a core player in his 2 years on GB. In 2021 Jake was a "core" player (non-kickers/returners/LS) ranked 7th (61%) of the 8 in snaps of the core players. He played very well. In 2022 it is looking like all of the other 7 core players are returning with Andre Smith not getting back until week 7. The 7 returning ranked by snaps are: Matakevich, Gilliam, Jones, Neal, Dodson, Johnson, Smith. My conclusion is while Jake was a core player on ST for 1 year and with the return of the rest of the core players this year, I find it hard to believe he is "indispensable" and a lock for his ST play especially since Terell Bernard is a seasoned college gunner. We all have heard he did very well in that role. The only way I see the Bills having room for Kumerow on the roster for his ST play is if he is going to replace Taiwan Jones as a perennial special team gunner. I can't see the Bills keeping both (and they would be foolish if they did), so who is it? Jones or Kumerow?

Crazy thing is Becton's depth is Chuma Edoga who has ended up on the Jets IR 2 out of his 3 seasons. I see a Beane trade netting a 6th for Bobby Hart coming soon. Jets have no 7th round picks.

If Hodgins has 3 great preseason games, my hope would be he makes the roster.

Reggie Gilliam signs 2 yr, up to 5.2 mil extension
ColoradoBills replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interesting when Reggie talked about Ken Dorsey's statement to the offense in OTAs that everyone will learn multiple positions. -
Mongo just pawn in game of life.

I always believed it's because the OL is such a visibly negative position. If you judged all the DL players on let us say sacks, there would be a lot of players left wanting. It's a thankless position for even an average player.
-
I've been bringing this up to certain posters. Never got a reply after asking 3 times. I just did KC and the AFC East. Thanks for doing the work for the league. Bucs are loaded for their last chance at a SB. My guess would be the OL depth league wide is even scarier.

I'm not putting the cart before the horse yet. I want to see how Matthew Smiley has the STs playing in the preseason.
-
I have to think that Matt Ryan being new to the team he and most of the 1's have a couple of series. I hope so. I want to see the D against them.
-
You didn't get the memo? Bills are running the wishbone this season.
-
It's probably not popular opinion, but I think Jones and Kumerow both don't make the team. One will get cut.

OT: Belichick says that Mac's improvement is "dramatic"
ColoradoBills replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not buying into NE*'s D being great. They lost in the FA market this year. Draft picks will be critical. Take out the JAX game and the last 3 regular season games against the Bills, Colts and Dolphins they gave up 31 points a game. We all seen how their D played in the playoffs. -
Good post. I was going to reply the same stuff to @Shaw66. You can add guys like Bates, Wallace and others. It's so needed in the cap era. I would add that Beane has signed some "fair for both sides" contracts which doesn't hurt. Big decisions coming next off season concerning UFAs and some are just going to not make it. Keeping the right FAs, drafting well, hitting on these lower cost incoming FAs/UDFAs and developing coaching replacements will be key in keeping this thing going for as long as possible. Great time for being a Bills fan.

Your 51 "locks" look pretty spot on but having 7 WR already and adding Kumerow to make 8 won't happen IMO. If Kumerow stays he is part of the 7. No way they go 8 OL. 9 minimum. Ike goes on Reserve/PUP. So, the 53rd player is a wildcard and come from almost any position. Also have to remember that Andre Smith will be back after 6 games. I'm not big on either and think Crowder stays. Crowder is one of the few players who could be traded and I was trying to come up with a scenario that would make that happen.
-
Spotrac has a Crowder trade saving $1.23M in cap. I tend to not count on any trades, but the Crowder thing is possible but not probable IMO. For it to happen I think it wouldn't just be about Shakir, they would have to be high on Austin and/or Stevenson.

Along with his work with Keenum and the 2s. I posted some thought in the 8/8 camp thread but let me say things another way. 1. He has to stay healthy. 2. His WR play is the most important evaluation in his chances to make the team. IMO Kumerow doesn't bring much to the WR position. 3. None of us know yet what worth on ST he may have. His play in preseason will be one of the big things I want to see.
-
That is the question that could be answered in camp/preseason. Let's take out ST play for one moment. I agree with your 5 WRs as locks. I know not everyone does, but I do. Shakir can take snaps outside but the "camp question" will be, can he do it full time if needed? Hodgin is a complete unknown, but the question is can he fill in if needed? Maybe 7 WRs are kept but not all will dress. Kumerow has PS skills, but his WR skills are a lot less than I originally hoped for. Kumerow is 30+ and on a one-year contract so I could ask "Is he in the Bills future"? Hodgins will be 24 on a cheap 2-year and none of us know what he could bring to ST. We also don't know if Kumerow's ST spot can be filled with a player from another position. I think the 6th and/or 7th WR spots are totally up for grabs and there are a lot of "other" factors beyond what we see to make a call.

7 Bills players that are trending up and down (per Joe B)
ColoradoBills replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's dog won't hunt. Don't you know that Daboll never wanted to call a running play in his life. Every time he did it's because McJauron overruled him and called those runs himself.
