  1. Depends on Shakir and Harty's play. McDermott has to let some of these rookies play more if the others don't produce as needed.
  2. Beane said yesterday about the cap space that there could be some "cap casualties". McKenzie is the first and I don't see Siran Neal making the 53. Siran with a post June 1st cut saves $2.8M. That almost pays for the Practice Squad where he might be in September!
  3. McKenzie had to go IF that means a high round WR pick. Add that to your list and a battle for WR6 in camp. Now I see the draft as WR, LB/OL, OL/LB if Beane can't trade back.
  4. That would be great. Let's hope that the Eagles and Lions want to trade UP.
  5. I commented on that in my post above yours. Beane can't force a trade down. He will probably need to draft a LB but just because some think it's Campbell and he takes him at #27 is huge speculation to me. If Beane doesn't get a MLB in the FA he has to have multiple LBs targeted in different rounds of the draft and with only 6 picks he can't have the luxury to move up in any of the rounds to take one.
  6. I can see your point, but the 5th year option had to be decided the previous year and they used it exactly the way it was designed for. None of us are privy to what Edmunds and his agent thought his worth was back in year 4. My hindsight comment was more about that. Beane might have known Edmunds wanted too much back then.
  7. Typically, Beane has had the luxury of filling every hole in FA before going into the draft. One thing he has spoken about is how things have changed as the team fully matured. It stands to reason that he and his team would need to adjust from the past drafting scheme into a new one. If Beane goes into the draft needing Edmunds replacement, I can see he would have multiple LBs targeted in the 1st 3rds. With pick #27 being on the cusp he will have to let the draft come to him and see if a trade down will be there or pick a player at #27 from another position.
  8. Agree. Way too many critiques based on hindsight around here. Trading Edmunds a year or even 2 ago while the Bills were on the threshold of a SB run would have been irresponsible. I can make an argument that the Bills D scheme was due to Edmund's traits. I can see McDermott, who just happens to have total control now, evolving the scheme on D to a post Edmunds team. With Poyer back, the only big change is Edmunds. Fans here can debate McDermott's HC qualities but he is an extremely competent DC. I have a lot of hope he can adapt with a new D scheme.
  9. If he had some gas left, but pretty old. Speaking of Denver, I saw Royce Freeman's name on the RB UFA list. His first 2 years in Denver were pretty good as that big body back. 3rd year he got pretty much benched when Williams and Gordon were tearing it up. Fell off the face of the earth after that. Crazy what happens to some of these RBs.
  10. They shouldn't. Those should not be part of the cap. One thing fans need to know, Spotrac and OTC are not official NFL numbers. These sites do the best they can with the info they get. From the Spotrac site: NFL SOURCES Spotrac relies on these great sources for collecting thorough & accurate NFL news, contract data, and more. Certified NFL Agents Official Reports Team Beat Reporters Our data is our interpretation of these reports and in no way represents official data collected by the league.
  11. Ah, a good Binghamton, NY boy!
  12. Ha, I'm the old man now. Bill passed away a number of years ago.
  13. LOL. That's what we talking about. Going to the moon on slide rules. The kids said, slide rules, what that? So I got Bill to bring one in.
  14. Years ago, we had an older guy in our Engineering group. I had him bring in his slide rule to show all the young kids. Their faces were hilarious when old Bill showed them how to use it. The were amazed that's what people used before computers.
  15. Both would start this year at the G spots. Who goes where will be figured out in camp. The rookie (let's say a 3rd) is depth until next year when one of them goes to C. I guess that's my point. I personally will wait to see which guy is better. I was a bit disappointed in Bates last season even though he was at RG.
  16. Maybe Beane thinks that McGovern or Bates will take over C next year. Leaves RG still open. I was hoping for a RG in the draft. They could keep the rookie as depth and to adjust to the NFL this year and he could take it over next. Or a rookie.
  17. I think I can help. In mid-February the Bills had about 52 players. They now have 61 confirmed contracts. That is 9 more players. Every time a new contract has been signed it has displaced on of the cheaper Reserve/Future guys (PS guys) that were on the team. An example is this: When Kyle Allen's contract is on the Spotrac books whatever that number is will take off them 51st guy. Right now, that is Christian Benford who has a hit of $918k. So, the increase of Allen - Benford is all the cap will go up. So, 9 guys displacing about $820k (I'm averaging) comes to about $7.4M more in cap. I can't remember but someone took a $600k decrease in pay restructure. That gets back most of what you are saying. LOL, correct. I wish I would have seen your reply before I did mine!
  18. I like him as a person and had high hopes he could made the transition to a good WR. The evidence is "he is who he is". That's not bad but the team probably needs better. Good chance he goes to camp if he isn't cut by tomorrow. He'll have his chance again to compete. I'm just not sure there is a place for him this season.
  19. Destiny. Po and Micah will have pictures of them both holding the Lombari high together. "FINISH"!
  20. I loved Po's answer about what the Bills need. Answer: "Finish". That's my motto for this year.
  21. I'm not positive but pretty sure Kyle Allen does not qualify. It's a crazy confusing methodology but not all UFA quality as CFAs (Compensatory Free Agents). Each team has to compare the number out and in of only CFAs See above. The other consideration is this formula is not only signing money. Points are added for % of number of snaps on O and D plus points for AP’s All Pro list, and the PFWA’s All NFL/All Conference list. It's a crazy formula. If anyone wants to check out the rules, OTC has the best article about it. Good Luck, I can't decipher it fully. https://overthecap.com/the-basics-and-methodology-of-projecting-the-nfls-compensatory-draft-picks
  22. Brissett signed with Washington for $8M. Keenum signed 2 years (at his age) with Houston for $6.25M. Did you really want the Bills to sign those guys for that money? Kyle Allen's contract isn't in but I'm guessing that he cost $2M or a bit more. In Kyle Allen's first 2 years in Carolina, he went 6-7. With the Bills I think he could be .500 if needed. That's all I can ask for in a cheaper backup QB.
  23. I am Spartacus! As to the OP. I do appreciate all the effort this organization and players bring. Go Bills!
