Matt Milano graded out among top rookie LB's
Maine-iac replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Humber played better than expected. I'll give him that. Literally from the second Milano got on the field he was making plays. He should have never gone back to the bench. https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-refocused-cincinnati-bengals-20-buffalo-bills-16 https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-refocused-buffalo-bills-30-tampa-bay-buccaneers-27 https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-refocused-buffalo-bills-34-oakland-raiders-14 The Buffalo Bills improved their home record to 4-0 on the season with their 34-14 win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Overcoming several injuries on the defensive side of the ball, the Bills forced four Oakland turnovers, including a Matt Milano scoop-and-score before the end of the first half. -
Rodak: Bills Remain Confident in Zay Jones

In all honesty the great difference in minds, offensive or defensive, is how fast they see the solutions and make the changes that produce. From a personel standpoint Milano and Thompson are two players that stepped on the field and produced yet still took 4 or 5 games to move ahead of their far less productive rivals at their positions. From a play calling perspective Dennison took way to long to start calling plays that work for his players and then in a game to game break down it wouldn't be a stretch to say Dennison might be the worst screen game coach that has ever called a game. Chan Gailey would have McCoy putting up old Marshal Faulk numbers. McVay is just much much faster at producing offense. Luckily for him he has Phillips to take care of the defense and that has been Buffalo's failure time and time again. Fix one side of the ball and neglect the other and it usually starts with coaching. -

In the 15 games in which LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods and Charles Clay were all on the field, Taylor has a 64-percent completion rate, throwing for 3,362 yards for 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions. In the 14 games in which one of those players weren’t available, Taylor’s numbers sunk, as he completed just 61.2-percent of his passes for 2,697 yards, throwing only 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. My comment would be that it seems like maybe he needs a decent receiver to throw to. -

Maybe he'll be our Robbie Anderson! -

Kelly generally completed between 270 and 300 passes a season with Thomas catching between roughly 50 to 60. -

The WR's get worse and worse so he's throwing to the rb's more and that doesn't make sense because? -
I defend the crap out of him but tell me you can bring in Drew Brees and I'd buy Taylor's bus ticket. We aren't bringing in Drew Brees. No guarantee in drafting someone. I'd do it anyways. I wouldn't however burn my bridge until I've crossed it. We could be a good team. We could be a good team with Taylor. Now if we become that good team and actually draft that "franchise" guy. Sky is the limit.

That's where you are wrong. I am not the one saying anyone is better. I was simply replying to someone who was commenting on my avatar. I don't have to make a case for Taylor being better than Spikes. I don't care. I can however comment that Spike in no way accomplished one damn thing while he was here. So if you are going to throw stones you probably should not live in a glass house.

I thought White broke out with Redman? The old Baltimore backup. No kidding ........... looked it up :). Forgot Harrington was even there. I remember the Mon. night game. Redman was throwing.

I'm not doing the work for you but needless to say it's a fact. Brady is easy to look up. 11 and 4 one season and 3 and 1 another without Brady. Ben is more sporadic but it's there if you really care. The Steerlers have had several stretches with Ben hurt and managed to win. We have plenty of work to do to be a good team. QB is just one position. Granted an important one but if we can't win with Taylor we probably are not SB bound just by drafting a "franchise" QB.
-
Steelers don't have Ben they still win. Pats don't have Brady they still win. Many good teams are just that, good teams. They're not getting rolled on for 300 yards rushing and 6 TD's. Sure there are teams with better QB's but look a little deeper. They also have better coaching, better pass catchers, better o-line, and a better defense. If they aren't better in those areas then they probably aren't doing any better than us. When was the last time Rivers won a SB?
-
Funny enough also is how the claim is how great they are somewhere else yet they are both being beat out by a rookie. I honestly think if they had Thompson signed and starting from the preseason on he'd have Watkins like numbers. Taylor loves a speed guy and it's his best pass. People want to argue pocket presence, I'll buy it. Holding the ball too long, you're absolutely right. Can Taylor throw? Yes he can. He misses some. They all do but he can throw. Taking the 15 yard sack yesterday was the kind of thing that can't happen though.
-
He's never had a defense that has held teams under 23 ppg so you'd have a hard time verifying that. Flip side the Pats have only given up over 20ppg 3 times in Brady's whole career and even then it was never more than 22. We could definately reach the playoffs with Taylor with a better defense. We could also do better than Taylor at QB. In one scenario we fix the defense and in the other we "simply" find a "franchise" QB. We should try to do both. Woods might not even break his own best for catches in a season. He's got more yards and he's in a passing offense but he's not lighting the world on fire compared to what he did here.
-
I'll bite. I could join the circle jerk but I think Taylor has some good plays. He does some dumb things also but I don't think he's "bad". He just isn't "put the team on your back good". We have a team that needs to be carried because it seldom plays defense for 4 quarters, and a fan base that expects Brady but has a roster that wouldn't be pass catching on most teams practice squads. Draft a next level QB? Yes please do it, but don't keep trying to force Peterman out there just because he's not Taylor. Then we have the case of Tyrod Taylor, whom Buffalo benched this week. Taylor actually ranked 10th in conversion rate (42.4 percent) even though he had the fourth-highest need yards (8.7). His ALEX dropped to -0.1 this season, ranked 29th. We've seen this continued change in Taylor's game. In his first season with Buffalo, his ALEX was +4.5, which ranked second in the NFL. It dropped to +2.3 in 2016, but still good enough for seventh in the league, and he was better at converting plays. Taylor's conversion rate was actually a career best this year, but alas he is benched after the Bills allowed 81 points in two losses. A big problem this year was the massive changes at wide receiver. Taylor was targeting running back LeSean McCoy more than anyone on third down, and those 16 targets produced a -10.9 ALEX. In 2016, Taylor's go-to targets on third down were deep threats Marquise Goodwin (+6.2 ALEX) and Sammy Watkins (+7.1 ALEX). Both of those receivers, as well as Robert Woods (+1.4 ALEX), are in the NFC West this year. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/alex/2017/2017-alex-midseason-report

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - No Match for the Patriots
Maine-iac replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor did it when he got sacked for a 15 yard loss but every game there are drive killing negative plays. I am fairly certain even though Shady is a decent pass catcher we have one of the worst screen games in the NFL. It's frustrating because not only are we missing out on some easy yards but it goes a long ways toward slowing down a pass rush. Meanwhile if you suck at executing screens they are only going to come harder. I remember in particular an 8 yard loss in the second half. I wanted to beat up on Taylor for it again but watched the replay and it was the designed play. It was just either horribly executed or NE completely was ready for it. -

My only caveat to all of this is that this is what the Pats do. For the most part nobody outscores the Pats. While most give this credit to Brady and the offense and they definitely deserve a share of it. The Pats defense always makes plays and most importantly they just get better as the game goes on. Teams that beat the Pats always have a defense that literally has Brady running and/or confused for 4 quarters. So as much as the blame will get dropped on Taylor and to some extent the refs for a reason. I have to say the defense, like the offense, only brought about half of what it needed to beat the Pats. We needed 4 quarters of offense and we needed 4 quarters of defense and we didn't get either. -

Tyrod made some big throws in this game. The problem is, and some do not seem to understand, that you just aren't going to be able to throw on 3rd and 15 with any regularity You need to get positive plays most of the time. We had a number of really good drives. Tyrod had two bad plays that you will hear all week. He missed Clay on a deep route. Clay was open long enough Taylor should have thrown it, the corner caught up to him later but the ball should have been there. Then the sack. It had me yelling at the TV and is a mistake Taylor makes too often. I imagine he thought he could out run the guy but he didn't. He got dropped for a 15 yard loss and then it's 2nd and 25. To compound the whole thing they then ran Tolbert on 2nd and 25. Taylor actually made a number of nice throws, many of which were actually to the WR's. A lot of other games it might have been enough but the refs, a couple big negative plays, and the defense folding and the Pats were too much.
