The Doug Marrone Coaching Tree: Hop on board!
The Now Moment replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had fast linebackers in Tennesee and did indeed have fast linebackers in Detroit. His teams weren't good enough to be known for anything but that doesn't mean they weren't fast. Don't overlook facts and give credit to the wrong people. He's had the same philosophy for a while now -

Schwartz already used fast linebackers before he worked under Marrone though... Yes but Schwartz used fast linebackers even before pairing with Marrone. You can't give Marrone credit for that -
He doesn't have a rope. He gets away with his lack of zip in college, he needs to improve in that area

Except Schwartz already had his scheme and used fast linebackers. That philosophy didn't come from Marrone. Other teams have been doing this for years. Other teams aren't getting that knowledge from Marrone, that's been a thing for a while now. Not sure where you are thinking Marrone has influenced the NFL this much. -
Excited about the idea of Chud. I'd hand him the keys to the offense and have McD focus on that defense with Frazier. Two former head coaches with McD...I like that. Chud could turn this offense around. I don't care if he's hard to work with, we'll have a defensive coach that should stay out of the offense and let Chud do his job. Really hoping that that happens.

Just because you coached with some coach doesn't mean you are in that coaches tree. Schwartz was already a big name and a great coach long before Marrone even was a head coach at SU. Give credit where it is due. Schwartz wasn't made by Marrone. He didn't get a 5 year head coaching job because of his success with Marrone. Wrong tree my man, wrong tree. Is Dick Lebeau under Mike Mularkey's tree??? Of course not. Similar situation here. -
2018 Potential Free Agent WRs

I simply can't put Sammy at the top of that list until he actually plays to his potential. He's yet to do so while others have. JMO -

I don't see how you can say Sammy is the best on that list with Landry there. He's produced a ton more than Sammy and so has Allen Robinson when he's been healthy. I think saying Sammy is the best there is being a homer but that's JMO. -
Dion Dawkins played at Temple, now he's our starting LT. Happens all the time, doesn't matter what school you're from. Can they play and do they have the mental game to play
-
Not the biggest fan of him. He has a lot to work on. He has shown putrid footwork and doesn't have a big arm. A lot of times he just throws it up to his two great college wideouts and they make a play for him. He tends to throw to his first read a lot and perhaps too often instead of going through his reads. He just hasn't shown me anything that wows me. I'd like to see how he does in his pro day and in his combine process. Hopefully, he shows an improvement in some of the areas mentioned. Otherwise, I have a difficult time taking him in the first round. I see more of a second round QB in him. Needs a lot of improvement. JMO

I honestly think they have very similar college tapes. They are similar in their movement abilities with the slight edge to Dareus and they have that ability to throw a lineman off his mark like a doll. The only big difference for me is that Dareus had more talent around him and that provided him with a few more opportunities.
-
I think a lot of people just look at his weight and assume he's a true nose. He is extremely quick for his size. I think he is much more versatile than some of the posters here are giving him credit for.

I actually disagree. I think that for some reason, people expect a late first round DE to have 10 sacks right away when that rarely ever happens. It takes time for DEs who don't have a lot of pass rushing moves to learn how to get to the QB in the NFL. He's done a solid job against the run. Rewatching the games, he was by far our best run defender even when Dareus was playing this season. He set the edge really well. Look at the DEs taken in the first round over the last few years, most of them fall in the 3-6 sack range their first few years. Lawson had 4 and missed a handful of games. With a healthy seasons, he could be a guy that reaches 6-10 sacks on a regular basis and sets the edge against the run. He's not the 15 sack guy that so many people expect out of a DE taken in the first round. I think fans just become very impatient with young players at that position. I think he will be fine, especially when we bring in some solid DTs next to him to help disrupt the QBs pocket more.

Thompson running free.. thanks Romo!!!

Then mute the TV, I'd rather have some insight to what the QBs are thinking or should be thinking. Especially since a lot of what Romo was stating was very accurate and revealed a lot of weaknesses about our QBs that may not have been as clear for some people. He made it very clear how poor Tyrod's vision is presnap and during the play through his commentating. I found his insight refreshing. I guess I'd rather know more about what's happening than just looking at the outcome after the play is over and saying if it's good or bad. I like the in-depth look. -

Collingsworth commentates like a fan does and Romo commentates through the eyes of a QB which we haven't heard much of in the past. It's refreshing. I like Collingsworth but Romo actually educates us about the game. He makes it more interesting for me -

I still don't know how people defended him up until this point. Watch every game again and you'll see a bunch of wide receivers running open and Tyrod just sitting there holding onto the ball. Beyond frustrating -
Jim Kelly and Tyrod Taylor

Not surprising at all. It was a run first league then, now it's a pass first league. Again, you can't compare stats like that. The game was different then -
Jim Kelly and Tyrod Taylor
The Now Moment replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely different era, completely different player. Nothing...nothing about them is similar and the only way they'd even be in the same sentence is this injury observation. Can't compare two different eras QB stats. -
Productive in terms of stats, sure. However, a player that tackles a running back after a 5 yard carry or further down the field every time isn't what we want. Brown, Alexander and Humber are the slowest linebackers who can't even stop the run very well. Need all of those players gone eventually if we want to win
-
He doesn't take a lot of hits and the ones he does take, he comes up lame. To me, he's not tough enough to take some of the hits receivers take on the run. Taking a hit while you're standing still is different. I don't think he'll be switching positions anytime soon
-
If we keep Tyrod, we should just draft the best punter in the draft with our 1st round pick. Want to get a guy that will be used a lot
-
I hope someone from the media asks McDermott why...
The Now Moment replied to KDS73's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With the lack of talent we have on defense, they gave up 10 points...10. In a playoff game, that should get it done but our offense with Tyrod at the head is anemic. Shady wasn't bad even playing through injury, Tyrod was just garbage. More talent will be walking in next year, will be fun to watch -
They have many draft picks and there are a few tradeable/signable QBs. I'm sure there is a plan to get rid of his garbage play.
