At what point do we say Antonio Brown is the GOAT?
The Now Moment replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is just ridiculous -
That's what McBean said he wanted. Sounds like they got the right guy. I like that they went for a young fresh mind instead of another retread who is set in his ways It's not a name he knows so the guy must be horrible. It's called being a lazy fan
-
Some fans will find any way possible to stay negative. It truly is amazing
-
How can anyone say he is a run first guy? He was at Alabama who recruits great running backs, why would he throw the ball a lot? He played to the teams strengths there. He seems to get a lot of high praise for being smart. McBean said he wants a guy who can adjust his playcalling to the teams strengths. I think this guy can do the job. Why so many haters because we got a guy that decided to run with 5 star running backs?

Orlando is on the outside though, not a guard who is in the passing lanes
-
He can block more than he is intending to like the QBs vision which is more important than I think you are giving it credit for. JMO

I like O'connell too but his height certainly can create problems for a QB. Guards and center are the players that are mostly in the passing lanes for lineman. We've had a QB that has had problems seeing the field. Not saying the next QB will but I'd be very hesitant to disrupt the passing lanes with a giant like that. Many times we find ourselves befuddled why a QB didn't throw the ball to a clearly wide open guy, it could be because they simply couldn't see the target. It doesn't hurt some QBs but it does hurt others. It may cause problems on a handful of plays but even that is too much just because of someone's ridiculous height.

This FO came in after free agency had started...they haven't even had a chance to grab anyone through FA. That's a little ridiculous to say they haven't done a great job grabbing FAs when they haven't had a real chance yet. Also, you must consider scheme fit when discussing the players above. Scheme fit is a huge part of it. Also, most of the players mentioned there had a bunch of injuries when they were here. You must look at all angles.

[Please Change Title]Ronald Darby

He's a man corner. We play a zone defense the majority of the time. It's right there...he didn't fit. Square peg, round hole. -
Seahawks may embrace a college style offense

Oh I don't disagree with that. You certainly have to throw the rock well. Also, I'm not a fan of having a running QB on our team. I was simply stating for the teams that do have those players, they should use them to their full potential and that includes running the rock. The creativity in playcalling can actually make this safer for a QB and also the knowledge to know when to get out of bounds or slide. A QB really never has to take a hit running the ball, they just choose to a lot. -
The Doug Marrone Coaching Tree: Hop on board!
The Now Moment replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree with you wholeheartedly. He became a head coach in this league long before Marrone had anything to do with him. He was highly regarded as one of the top defensive minds long before he worked with Marrone. Don't you remember? He was considered one of the top if not the top DC for a while in Tennessee and was considered for HC jobs for years. He was not a mediocre DC. I'm not sure where you are making that notion up from. It sounds like you are just referring to his HC stint with the Lions where he took over a horrid team with an enormous lack of talent and then magically took them to the playoffs. I don't understand how you can think he was mediocre as a coordinator before that though. He rose up the ranks to earn a HC job. Did you watch his defenses and schemes and player types? I just think you somehow missed his time before his HC stint. -

That's only one mobile QB, I was talking about all of them. I also believe he will be more effective if he ran more. He's smart, he knows how to slide and protect himself. It's all about the creative design of the play. -
I don't think that will be remotely close to enough to get up to 2. Look at some of the other trades to get into even the top 5. We are moving up from the 20s

The Doug Marrone Coaching Tree: Hop on board!
The Now Moment replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope I'm not warning you my good sir, I'm simplying pointing out how successful Chud's been. Marrone has been a solid coach but I am not giving him credit for Schwartz's success. I know where both originated. Marrone was a tight ends coach 3 years in his entire career and is mostly known for his offensive lineman coaching. I find it very hard to give him any credit for Schwartz's success as a defensive coach, especially his linebacker play. Schwartz was around before Marrone ever was and rose up the ranks before him. I disagree with your sentiment that Marrone had anything to do with influencing Schwartz's linebackers way back in 1992. They were at low level colleges and weren't even the coordinators or HC of those teams. They didn't choose what players were on the team, they played with the talent they had and built from there. I just cannot give Marrone any credit for anything Schwartz has accomplished through his almost 30 year career. Schwartz worked years with defensive minds and somehow I'm supposed to give Marrone credit for Schwartz's success/scheme type, sorry man. -
Like I said, Peyton was the King of anticipation. Rudolph has a long long way to go in that area. Also, I didn't say anything about Mayfield. I have my doubts with him too but at least he showed up for big games, Rudolph did not.

I'm aware, however, if you expect a mobile QB to be forced into an NFL system that limits their running, they won't be as effective plain and simple. -

Since Schwartz used fast linebackers before working under Marrone, I simply can't give Marrone credit for that. I know Marrone's history and Schwartz's history, I can't give Marrone credit for Schwartz's success. -

Not every coach needs to have some great tree. I still disagree about the branches you say are on Marrone's tree and yes, I do know his history. Some coaches just earn their stripes. Rob Chud is one of the best offensive coordinators in the game and highly regarded around the league. I wouldn't be trashing his name too much. He even took a cleveland offense to incredible heights in one year as head coach there. -
If the OC is Bevell I see 2 Things.....
The Now Moment replied to JMF2006's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want a QB that can score points. Sure he can protect the ball, can he score points. He's yet to do that in his three years here. Even when we were a higher scoring team, it was mostly because of our number one ranked run game who scored half of the points. Tyrod and his 23 touchdowns just don't cut it for me. And I don't think he throws as pretty a ball as you claim. He usually is off his mark even on completions. I used to want him too, then I rewatched the games and saw the sad truth. He is a blind bat on the field. -

The league keeps moving to faster and faster players at every position. Even the fat guys need to be reasonably fast now or they just don't fit. -

I've been saying this for a long time, a college system is the best way to utilize a mobile QB that looks to run more than pass. Look at Watson, used a college system this year and he was extremely successful. It will be interesting to see if the league moves more that direction. -
I'm sorry, I refuse to compare a guy that has yet to play a snap in the NFL to Peyton Manning, one of the greatest QBs of all time. He was the king of anticipation, Rudolph is not in the same breath as his skill set in that area. He's not good in either category in my opinion. I've watched too many games to count of his over his career and have not been impressed by his arm. Doesn't mean it can't improve with better footwork and other things but right now, he's not as good as many seem to think by simply looking at his numbers. He went absent in big games too many times, his footwork was garbage most of the time, he doesn't have a strong arm and his accuracy was questionable in almost every game against a decent defense. I watched him against Texas, Oklahoma and TCU and he was horrible. Missed throws that were point blank wide open, footwork was poor, his pocket awareness seemed to disappear, his lack of arm strength was evident and hurt him in those matchups. Again, I'm not one to blindly look at the stats. I watched his games and came away unimpressed a lot of the time. He did well against bad teams but when he played against a decent defense, he was questionable at best. I can't imagine what he'd look like against an SEC defense. Doesn't mean he can't get better but he has a long long way to go.

I'm aware, I just disagree that that was where the philosophy started. Difference in opinion, carry on.
