Some thoughts on Bills start this season
freddyjj replied to freddyjj's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes I am also surprised they do but he has started there each game and primarily plays 1T https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/BUF -
OK, count me as a long time fan who is surprised by the Offensive juggernaut and Defensive enigma this 2020 Bills squad is to date. Some things I think may be contributing to this situation that is the reverse of what most national, and some local, pundits predicted in the offseason: The Bills D has spent most of the offseason practicing against the Bills Offense, and with the new 4WR look and 11 packages, has not had to do too many run fits. What we are seeing is them trying to adjust in game. Jefferson at 290 lbs and Horrible Harry at 80% effectiveness are not ideal 1 techniques. If Josh Jacobs or Derrick Henry go off, look for a veteran 1 technique (Snacks, Luiget) to be brought in to play the run. It does appear they miss Star. The Bills passing game means they will shorten their own TOP as incomplete passes and quick possessions tilt the clock back towards opponents. There were many games the last few years where bills won TOP and even TO ratio but lost the game. An efficient offense lets them survive losing the TO battle and TOP like versus Fins and Rams. Is it me or do the Bills on D look markedly small? The only big guys at their respective positions are maybe Edmunds and Butler. It will be interesting to see what physical run teams do against the Bills. Raiders, Titans and NE will provide such tests. Daboll seems to be doing NE type game by game personnel groupings to attack a teams weaknesses. Run vs Jets, Crossers with WRs vs Fins, Play action and Spread vs Rams. Nice to see Bills attack using all skill positions (WR, TE, RB and QB) based on opponent so far. It will be interesting if Daboll continues to play different OGs based on opposition. Spain sitting down was apparently based on dealing with Donald. When Mongo gets back does he, Ford, Winters or Spain rotate? Or does one of those 4 get dealt for a pick or DT? Nickel coverage seems to be a big issue and is probably why Kyle Dugger was their Rd 2 target in draft. Won't be surprised to see Neal or Norman (upon his return) used more here. Johnson has struggled in coverage and versus run which led to his being replaced vs Rams for 9 plays by Marlowe as Bills tried to stop running game at start of 2nd half. Would be nice to have one player able to both cover and stop the run. Teams with motion, Play Action and receivers good over the middle have a chance versus Bills D as coverage has broken down to date. It's what the Rams and Fins did. As a smaller D, Bills count on penetration and ability to cover the flats with LBs. Play action and end around runs have minimized this strength in games so far. Still waiting to see how Bass will do when we really need him. Believe the next 2 games will provide the answer. Let me know what you think and add your own early season takes. Nice to have so many smart and passionate fans in this forum.

Agreed. I see a lot of John Elway in Josh. Took Elway a while to hone his craft too.

As usual @Shaw66, an exemplary take on a great football game. The above makes me point out that many of our players have faced major adversity and came back...so it might be what McD and Beane look for and tap into. Draftees: Josh Allen as a lightly recruited QB from a small HS, then JUCO, then the football factory that is Wyoming. Taron Johnson from...Weber State. Milano as a tweener from a crappy BC team. Singletary, too small and too slow, from FAU. Dawkins - not an OT Body type - and from Temple, not a big school. Davis the rookie WR this year from UCF And the FA Vets they brought in: Darryl Williams at RT after a couple injury/recovery years Ditto for Tyler Kroft - we heard his team mates talk about how they respect him for coming back Feliciano, backup at OAK, just needed a shot to start Addison, a FA with a tough path to be a pass rush specialist Poyer, Cut by Eagles and not resigned in CLE These are a group of guys who have heard no and your not good enough before. They play like they have something to prove. Mix in some premier talent and you have a TEAM. That can pass the Test. Thanks Shaw 66

Bellichick give Bills some help in scheming against Raiders
freddyjj replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lots of Nickel D again by Bills. And Big Nickel with Marlowe/Neal to help shut down running game and Jacobs. If OAK trots out Zay, Agholor and Renfro they are basically starting 3 slot WRS in their 11 package. No wonder Waller is the top target. -
This is a continuation of their 3 year old, "smartest guys in the room" position when it comes to Josh Allen. Exhibit A, this is right after last year's Turkey Day win in Dallas: By Sam Monson and Steve PalazzoloDec 2, 2019 Pump the brakes on Josh Allen a little bit… Nothing warps perception more than a big performance (good or bad) in a nationally televised or primetime game. Josh Allen just had maybe the best game of his career (certainly the best game against a team not named Miami) on Thanksgiving Day against Dallas, so people are looking to cash in receipts. I don’t want to take anything away from his performance Thursday night — Allen was spectacular — I just want to caution against believing that this is his baseline. From digging out a botched snap only to power himself for a first down to executing multiple difficult passes, this was a high watermark for Allen. His adjusted completion percentage was 79.2%, and he showcased that incredible arm strength. If this was the play the Bills got from their quarterback every week, they would be among the favorites for the AFC. Instead, it’s just a taste of where his ceiling is so far. Some people just can't accept that they might be wrong I guess. A friend taught me to always say to folks like these, "There is a remote possibility you may be correct"

OMG, this could lead to a breakout of "Sugar Rush" Josh or "Beast Mode" Josh. I predict a madcap 40 yd TD scramble with Raiders defenders left lying prone along Josh Allen's rampaging path to the end zone. And, to add insult to injury, Josh had to put up with his girlfriend, Brittany Williams, being a Fresno State Cheerleader. I am sure he wished he was the Bulldog's QB a few times while at Laramie. Josh will put a few Raiders in "Time Out"

The Jets are going to go on a run

Flacco and Frank Gore are like taking these two guys to Ladies Night, Ain't nothin' gonna happen! -
Why the Bills can win: 1. Ram D is pretty vanilla and Daboll should be able to scheme well against it. 2. Rams LBs in coverage not a strength, middle of field available. 3. Akers likely out and Malcom Brown will be limited with splinted finger at RB. 4. Goff not a strong arm vs wind. 5. 2d East Coast game in 7days with two of those as travel days for Rams. Why the Rams can win: 1. Rams can run the rock on a windy day. Averaging 172 ypg Rushing 1st 2 weeks. Bills yielding a healthy YPC to opponents. 2. Higbee and dual TE formation will challenge Bills LBs. Milano and Edmunds both need to play to limit them here. 3. Donald vs Bills interior OL not a good matchup. Spain and Morse may struggle. 4. Heavy use of Zone on D could confuse Josh and force him to throw into tight windows.

So Pats scored 3 offensive TDs, only ran for 67 yards with Cam gaining 47 of them. Also gave up 155 Rushing yds and >5 yPC to Seahawks. and allowed >10 Yds per attempt to Seahawks passing game along with 5 passing TDs and a 75% pass completion rate. I saw a team that couldn't pressure a QB and struggled to cover downfield. I like the Bills chances against NE this year.

The Tackle Eligible Option
freddyjj replied to ROCBillsBeliever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It worked because of 3 reasons: Formation with 8 OL packed tight and strong side to the right with FB (Gilliam) and RB (Moss) in I formation. All shifted to short side of field. Lots of green space to near pylon. Beautiful execution of the fake sweep to Moss. Spain pulling to the right from LG and Gilliam as lead blocker makes all but 2 jets, including all 3 second level guys, slide to right side of formation. 44 on Jets sold out entirely and neglected any coverage duties. Bates takes outside edge protector into back of end zone from tackle Eligible position. Dawkins/ Bates get enough of Anderson to make it a one on one footrace between a 300 lb DE and Josh to the pylon. The result was a walk-in TD! If 48 from Jest stayed on edge, Josh flips it to Bates for easy TD. Any D will struggle to defend this play.- 1 reply

And they got the last TD with 4 backups in at both LB and CB spots.

Duke should definitely be part of the WR's this year
freddyjj replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, last year when OBD kept 6 on roster for opening day, he was beat out by Foster and McKenzie. What's changed this year? Take away Zay Jones and plug in Diggs. Take away Foster and plug in Gabriel Davis. So Duke has to beat out McKenzie, who was active all last year. Davis and Hodgins are playing on STs, not sure Duke has that ability. The CFL is off tyhis year so if he gets cut, which is likely, I hope he goes to PS -
gotcha, my bad
