  1. Agree. We obviously can’t take on the entirety of that contract. If the Panthers want a pick (maybe also a player) in return to eat some of that contract… I’d listen. No way I’m offering pick 25 though.. so if that’s what it takes, I’m out.
  2. There may be a drop off, and that’s ok… Were talking about Safeties here. We can’t pay everyone. Did our two safeties help us against KC when it mattered? Or against any other top notch offense… Indy & Ten come to mind… We aren’t going to have All-Pros at every position. We also can’t pay every position. We’d have zero problem extending Poyer and Edmunds, if we want to, had we not signed Von Miller. But Von Miller on a defense against KC in the Playoffs is a huge net positive for this unit even if you remove Poyer & Edmunds from the roster. I really like Poyer as a person, a Bill, and a player… but I’d rather use his money elsewhere. Beane said we need to get faster in the Secondary… so far all we’ve done is let Levi walk. As good as Hyde & Poyer are, they aren’t burners either. We vastly overrate some of these guys because our defense is built to suffocate middling QB’s/mediocre offenses. Sorry, but it’s true. Investing in a guy like Von was a move to change that… and like other defenses who have game changers on it… you have to rely on cheap talent at other positions.
  3. Fwiw, I do think it does make sense for us. It’s a risk, but we’d be betting on our top notch facilities/training staff and the fact that his usage rate wouldn’t be remotely close to what it has been. He’s the ultimate answer to the two-high safety looks.
  4. I wouldn’t say it’s a huge liability.. it’s a huge unknown. Both are young players that we don’t know what they are yet. Brown because he didn’t play for a year and then was thrust into a starter role as a rookie. Bates, because we’ve been enamored with him being the ultimate utility backup. I would have zero issue with us drafting OL high, but I don’t know that it’s fair to already label those two as a liability.
  5. Jets Message Board speculating that the Bills may be eyeing a CMC trade. No idea what their thread is based off though as I don’t see any linked source.
  6. I like this team going BPA (within reason) RD’s 1-4, and then hitting OL & DB every year RD’s 5-7. However, if we’re going to have a DB and OL poached off the Practice Squad, we may have to rethink that strategy. Can’t be wasting picks with the big contracts we have on the books now.
  7. Schefter stays posting some incredibly bizarre stuff lately. “Struggling to catch on..”…. Oh, ok, thanks for reminding us how he wasn’t doing so well in the NFL before tragically dying today. Vital information, Adam.
  8. I read he was down there working out with Mitch, Najee, Claypool, Freiermuth and Diontae Johnson. How awful… ugh
  9. I love Poyer as a person and player, but the fact of the matter is we can't keep paying everyone who wants more money. Especially in the secondary, where we have a very friendly system and a coach who knows how to get the most out of players. Poyer has worked hard and become a very good player, but is he the same player elsewhere? Are we any worse off with a different Safety? I honestly don't know. There's 5 big decisions to make after this upcoming season: Knox, Edmunds, Poyer, Saffold & Singletary. Of those guys, the only must sign for me is Knox and I wouldn't mind Edmunds & Saffold if the money is right and their play warrants them being back. If I'm the Bills.. Poyer, Singletary and Edmunds (dependent upon their long term view of him) are all available right now. None of those guys here or gone changes the fact that this is a Super Bowl roster. LB, RB, S are as replaceable as it gets in the NFL.
  10. I'm not even worried about them being "bad seasons". Von Miller is here for 3 years. Not worried at all about that. If it works, awesome, if not, oh well... not like we're used to elite DE play anyway. Although I tend to believe Von will still be great for at least 2 of these 3 years... and then hopefully by year 3, if he drops off, someone else is ready to be the lead dog on the DL anyway. I also feel our heavy rotation will help keep him fresh for these 3 years. The Diggs contract, I'm not worried about at all. Worst case scenario, his play drops off after 3 years and we have a solid #2 WR under contract... paid well, sure, but with the cap increases and WR contract trajectory, whatever... As long as Josh Allen is here, we're a contender.. provided Beane continues to be aggressive, but smart. Beane shows every intention of being that.
  11. Diggs probably has 3 more elite seasons in him, potentially 4. However, even if his play drops off after that, his style doesn't lend itself to him falling off a cliff... instead, he likely becomes our #2 WR as someone else emerges down the line or is acquired.
  12. #1 Defense that got absolutely shredded when it mattered. I don't really care how good they are against middling QB's tbh. Can they hold up against elite offenses should be the question we ask. If they aren't essential to accomplishing that, then I don't really care about upsetting any apple carts.
  13. I think he'd be worth it to bring him back on a 1 year deal as a situational rusher. He still pressured the QB last year.. we just didn't care, rightfully so, because when it mattered neither he nor Addison got home. We have Miller now, we have a very talented DT rotation and we have to hope that - at least - Rousseau makes a jump this year. If we move off Edmunds or Poyer's contract, I wouldn't hate using some of that money on Hughes as a situational rusher for one year.
  14. Same. Also, our safeties are great at stopping over the top passing attacks, but - as you point out - they didn't do so well in pursuit mode off underneath stuff in that KC game. Guess what we'll likely see nonstop twice per year out of Miami with Hill/Waddle/Mostert... going to need guys who can run.
  15. Can't argue too much with that. I think i'm more in the win-now, while also thinking about creating the most competitive team I can for the future mode - but I can't argue with the win-now at all costs folks. It's why I would 100% trade Edmunds and Poyer before/during the draft, as I do not believe they are in our long term plans. However, I definitely understand why people would want to keep them and risk them leaving for nothing next offseason. I'd like to see what we have in Epenesa and Basham, but Hughes on a DL that doesn't require him to be lead dog could be pretty special. Moving Edmunds and/or Poyer could also free up what we need to do so.. just saying.
  16. Completely agree. If they want to go RD1 CB, fine, but trading up for one seems ridiculous. If Booth is there at 25, I have zero issue taking him. We'd be locked in for multiple years with Tre, Booth and Taron, with Dane and Siran as depth... that's quite the stacked group at Corner. However, if Edmunds and Poyer aren't in the long term plans.. move them while we can get compensation back. A LB and S aren't make or break pieces to a SB run. Jaquan Johnson has been in the system for years. We drafted Hamlin last year. At some point, with high end contracts all over, you have to trust your development. RD2 seems to be a sweet spot for LB. Draft Muma or Anderson to replace Edmunds and let's go. LB isn't some hard to transition position, especially with the DL we have out in front of them. That would lead to, yet another draft, where we heavy invest on defense, but at least our $$$ allocation would begin to align better and we won't be losing guys for nothing next offseason. We'd still have an Edmunds pick via trade, plus the rest of our draft, to go Offense. I don't anticipate Poyer bringing back much, maybe he's shipped out to move us up a few spots in the draft.
  17. I'm confident enough in our team that I really don't care. If Tua isn't it, then what, they bring in 46 year old mercenary QB, Tom Brady? They spent a ton of money loading up for Tua, so unless he's taking a vet min, this is the team he's going to get.. better hope Connor Williams stops getting penalties every other play and Armstead figures out how to not miss half the season.
  18. I'd actually love to bring Hughes back, but are we moving Epenesa? Does Shaq Lawson not make the team? It's a numbers game, and we have to get Basham and Epenesa on the field to develop, unless they are just colossal busts, in which case we have other issues.
  19. Not directed to me, but I do think Edmunds could bring back a 3rd...maybe a 2nd. Someone is going to be enamored with his size, potential and youth. Even though he's in the final year of his rookie contract, a team that is not as cap constrained as us will want to get him in the building under a sure-to-be negotiated long term contract to be for their defense, what we hoped he would be for us.
  20. That's a pretty common sentiment, but what about if a Poyer deal costs us the ability to get a new deal done with Knox? The Bills can absolutely keep 1 of the 3 guys up for new deals next year in Poyer, Knox, Edmunds. Maybe they can keep 2. Going to need a miracle worker to keep 3....especially when Poyer show signs of wanting a big pay day.
  21. As much as I prefer WR at 25, if Booth is there, I wouldn't hate it. The guy has some elite traits. Outside of Booth, give me a WR or OL.
  22. It doesn't just work that way though.. If we do a new deal with Poyer, are you ok losing Edmunds and Knox? Maybe Beane finds a way to keep 2 of them, but it's highly unlikely all 3 get new deals and in the realm of possibilities we can only keep 1.
  23. Schopp and the Bulldog constantly harping on the “go for it” mentality and our window… I’m so sick of hearing about this tbh. Our window is for however long Josh Allen is here. “But what about it Von and Diggs decline in a few years… ok, and? Miller has an out after 3 years. We’ll see how Diggs is structured. Enough… KC isn’t closing their window this year to reset because they traded Tyreek Hill,.. it’s simply asset re-allocation.
  24. I think you've got to find a way. It takes a long time to develop TE's. If we move off Edmunds & Poyer, that probably allows us to get it done.
