Von Miller's injury, and pass rush needs this offseason
SCBills replied to Yantha's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm not expecting freak Von early in the year, and we should definitely manage his snaps to make sure he's fresh when we need him, but I agree with those who think Von will be a force off the edge for us for the next two years. I'm not concerned about him at all. Now Tre'Davious White on the other hand.. I've got my fingers crossed, but Von and Hyde.. I'm not too concerned. -
We have the following players: EDGE - Von Miller DT - Daquan Jones DT - Ed Oliver EDGE - Greg Rousseau LB - Matt Milano MLB - ??? CB - Taron Johnson CB - Tre’Davious White CB - Kaiir Elam S - Micah Hyde S - ??? If McDermott can’t figure out how to put forth an adequate defense without needing to invest big money and/or a RD1/RD2 pick, then there is literally no reason for him to remain our HC. We should honestly move Ed Oliver for late round pick swap/salary dump as well. Whatever it takes to get his 11M off the books. We’d be able to sign 2 of the top FA’s on the OL and a WR. Imagine heading into the Draft with a new interior OL, along with say… OBJ. Draft a RT in RD1 and another WR in RD2. Then let McDermott find his MLB in RD3. Draft a CB/Safety, DT and RB on Day 3 and let’s go. That’s how you flip this thing on it’s head and make some waves. Do you think KC would pay Oliver 11M? Re-sign Poyer or Edmunds? Or would they build an elite OL for Mahomes? FYI… we know the answer, because they already did that.

Maybe our Defensive HC should work his magic and scheme up an adequate defense that doesn’t rely on being loaded at every position.

Diggs interview with Dan Patrick on 2/10..
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Is it reasonable to ask McDermott, this off-season, to let Poyer & Edmunds walk… perhaps try to find a trade partner for Oliver, and then utilize Day 3 picks to fill in the gaps, so we can invest heavy on Offense? Remake the the OL and WR rooms? Having a Defensive HC only has a chance to offset the inherent Offensive cohesion issues if that HC is able to mask deficiencies on the Defense so we can load up on Offense. So far we’ve apparently needed high end talent/investment all over the Defense in order to have a Defense that continually fails in the post-season. Isn’t that a fair compromise?… to ask Beane and McDermott to reallocate a ton of investment to to the Offense this off-season? I think we’ve reached shake-up territory now.. the next step is major coordinator changes, then a HC change if our limitations remain. -
We lost Von Miller, our 3rd best player, after Allen and Diggs. We went from a top 5 DL to, like, 26th or 28th. Chris Jones is their 3rd best player behind Mahomes and Kelce. Take him off KC and they aren’t beating CIN … watching that game, that’s obvious. Nevermind that we had no Jones or Hyde in that game either. Chiefs stayed healthy where it mattered. We had offensive issues too.. no doubt, but if the Chiefs had an injury situation like we did, especially to their main DL piece, it’s Bengals/Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Matt Araiza, The Punt God, Signs With Team in Mexico
SCBills replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills Mafia Babes, most the podcast folks, most on WGR referred to him in the strongest sense as a rapist. Zero interest in his side. Maybe someone should accuse them, ruin their reputation, and they can hope one day to regain what was taken from them. -
Matt Araiza, The Punt God, Signs With Team in Mexico
SCBills replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
We’ll never hear a mea culpa from the prominent Bills Twitter personalities or podcasters. They were real quick to make judgments for clout. Not a word from them since. -
Did anyone say that? Are we not allowed to ask why we’re supposed to, no questions asked, support to the levels of support we’re giving, a corrupt government with Nazi battalions and an infusion of ISIS fighters? We have political leaders sending them weapons, unchecked. Money, unchecked. Defense, unchecked. We constantly provoke Russia… seemingly begging them to push the button. We blew up Russia’s pipeline and then lied to the world about it. There is no endgame. No one can articulate how this ends, when it ends. Meanwhile, we can’t even get FEMA to support East Palestine. Flint, Michigan type cities riddle the country. But we have no limits on the money we will send to a corrupt country, fighting a evil regime, with all the usual suspects now getting involved. You tell me why ISIS and Al-Nusra are now in Ukraine…

If you had to play 4-6 games with a backup because Mahomes suffers an injury… do you feel that y’all can win half those games? Bills would get rocked last year if Allen missed any time. Y’all had a top 2 OL, elite TE and a nice/deep variety of weapons at RB/WR. We had a bottom third OL, decent RB’s, good TE, Diggs, a WR3 and rookie RD5 WR. On Defense, we just don’t care about regular season play from this side of the ball anymore. We never get the 1 seed and they don’t show up in the playoffs.
-
Dorsey needs to be better, but at some point we all need to acknowledge that the OL and WR’s were much worse in ‘22 than ‘21. Thats a lot of downgrade for a first time play caller to deal with. We went from Diggs, Davis, Beasley, Sanders and McKenzie to Diggs, Davis, McKenzie and Shakir. Then we went from a middle of the pack OL to a bottom third OL. Just an all around failure around Josh this past year. Players regressing, not stepping up, not being trusted and not enough help to even begin with.

Matt Araiza, The Punt God, Signs With Team in Mexico
SCBills replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
Araiza was misled by a woman he had sex with about her age. All the ancillary stuff aside, that’s the only fact we have from this case. Because of that (and unproven accusations), he likely lost his career in the NFL. As we see with some posters on this board, no NFL team can bring him back because he’s been branded by the accusation and is only a punter. It’s pretty gross what happened to him, and I think our GM knows it. You could see it on his face when he eventually had to let him go. Beane knew what the deal was. Societal pressure, and likely the NFL, forced his hand. -
KC didn’t “handle” the Bengals. That was a good game, and a game that was very clearly highly affected by Chris Jones being a game wrecker. They don’t win that game without Chris Jones, and I’d be willing to bet a lot of Chiefs fans would admit that. Frank Clark and George Karlaftis aren’t terrorizing Joe Burrow. Just like Ed Oliver and Greg Rousseau couldn’t. You also seem to have ignored the part in my post that addressed the Chiefs making their own luck and, at some point, our excuses fall flat.
-
It’s too early to tell, but I think last years draft was legit also. Im pretty high on Elam and Cook.. my issue more being with the coaching staff in their rookie years. Shakir and Benford giving us nice rotational/depth pieces with starting potential at Slot WR and Safety. Araiza should’ve been our punter for the next 3 years. Not going to get into all that. That’s 5 contributors, all with some impact potential. Again, too early to tell, but in my opinion, we may look back and say Beane was a Terrell Bernard away from this being an A grade Draft. I just don’t see, at all, what the vision is for him.

Bills sign S Zayne Anderson to a 2 year deal
SCBills replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
If this signing is for a guy the Bills FO feels can be a cheaper replacement/special teams piece for Taiwan Jones, Tyler Matakevich and Jaquan Johnson… I’m fine with it. Maybe they even see some untapped “Poyer potential” in him, when he came here as a backup player and turned into an All-Pro, at the very least, maybe they see Safety depth. Not sure we can rule out the Bills not being infatuated with bringing back guys like Kumerow, Matakevich, Johnson, Lewis, Jones … which is where the angst likely comes from. If he’s their first move in resetting depth/teams, because we’ll be seeing a lot of turnover on defense this year.. then let’s go. I’m open to it. As of now I see two main ST’s guys on the roster, under contract…. S Zayne Anderson and CB Siran Neal. -
Chiefs DL looks a lot like ours did post-Von injury, if Chris Jones goes down. Frank Clark is decent, and the rest of their guys are ok… sounds a lot like Rousseau, Jones and co., without Von Miller. They hit on Gay and Bolton at LB, and seem to have hit on resetting their Secondary after letting Matthieu and Ward walk. The big difference between the Chiefs and Bills is on Offense. They don’t have the dollars we do tied up on defense, which allows them to spend heavy on OL.. and then the big draft difference - they took a stud C, where we took a rotational DE4 in RD2. They have a RD1 bust at RB, but hit on Pacheco in RD7 and a low-tier RB in McKinnon. Kelce is the straw that stirs the drink. Best non-QB offensive player in the league. At WR, I don’t know that Skyy Moore is that much higher potential than Khalil Shakir, but they took a chance on a guy we seemingly never would… Kadarius Toney, who is a game changer talent and still has two more years on a rookie deal. They’ve drafted a bit better, stayed healthier, took some chances that we wouldn’t… but mainly… the big difference …. Chris Jones stayed healthy and they let defensive guys walk so that they can give Mahomes a top 2 OL.

Rousseau is more a product of where he was drafted. It’s rare for a late RD1 pass rusher to be elite in his first few years. He actually had 1 more sack than Jaelen Phillips this past year, in 4 less games. Oweh with 5 less sacks in 4 more games. Elam’s handling was an absolute joke. He is our most talented CB, yet they played games with him all year. Beane, outside Oliver, has been good in RD1. Day 2 has been a disaster. Day 3, again, he’s good, but it’s relative .. good on Day 3 is why we have decent depth. Striking out on Day 2 is why we lack game changers compared to CIN and KC. Even worse is that the Day 2 misses are in the trenches. Something they constantly preach.

Matt Araiza, The Punt God, Signs With Team in Mexico
SCBills replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
*No team can come across seeming to want him -
We see what Veach has done for you and want that for us. He let Matthieu and Ward walk last year. For us that’s Poyer and Edmunds. If that happens, our off-season gets quite interesting. If we bring Edmunds back, maybe we can sign a decent Guard… and then it’s off to the draft, unless we can unload Oliver for a Day 3 pick.

QB Carr to visit the Jets (Update: signed with the Saints)
SCBills replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jets with Rodgers have a small Super Bowl window.. but it’s there. Jets with Derek Carr and all their picks, playoff team. -
Would you guys trade one of Elam/Benford/Jackson?
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we’re trading a secondary player, it’s Tre White. Makes zero sense to trade Hyde, Elam, Benford or a signed RFA Dane Jackson. Just doubt we’d get anything of substance for Tre White that makes it worth it for the FO to move him, instead of seeing if he follows the historical timeline for a good corner with an acl and returns to pro-bowl Tre this year. -
Participating Member of the ALL OFFENSE group here… If we let Edmunds and Poyer walk, then re-allocate Edmunds money towards OL, by all means .. draft a LB in the 3rd Round. Just make sure you don’t accidentally submit your Day 3 pick at LB in on your RD3 draft card like last year.
-
Give the Chiefs our path and they are not Super Bowl Champions. Dolphins, Bengals, Bills without Chris Jones. They bow out in the Divisional Round against CIN just like us. They stayed healthy at the main roster spots and lucked into the 1 seed. Now, we have work to do.. KC likely doesn’t get rocked by the Bengals, but it does take some luck. On the other hand, some teams make their own luck… KC has routinely been the 1 seed and/or made it to the AFC Championship/Super Bowl. Can only make excuses for so long.
-
Has the Defense shown up in the post-season against elite Offenses? Answer: Emphatically NO. For as statistically dominant the Defense has been in regular season, how many 1 seeds have we gotten? Answer: Zero. It’s time to move on from Poyer and Edmunds. Core defenders on a Defense that couldn’t get it done. And as we saw last year, is now starting to eat into what we can protect, and provide, Allen with.
-
Are we extending Gabe Davis? If not, I’m certainly open to sending Gabe to Tampa for Mike Evans. Still need to draft a WR early. Then we can platoon Beasley and Shakir in the slot.
