Yup .. I always thought it was managerial malpractice to pay Edmunds, but just assumed they do whatever it takes to do so. Even if he gets a modest contract at 14-16M per and we use that money on the top available starting Guard and an adequate MLB or a decent vet starting Safety, that’s such a far better allocation of resources. The offense needs a good Guard and the defense should only need a decent MLB and decent Safety, given all the talent we have coming back on the D.

Part of me wants McDermott and Beane to be forced to play Bernard at starting MLB. …just so they have to own the idiocy of that pick. Then I remember I’d likely be cutting off my nose to spite my face.
-
Beane has been a disaster in terms of drafting for the lines. That’s where teams are built. It’s extremely problematic that our best OL is Morse, a FA signing, best DE is Von, a FA signing and best DT is Jones, a FA signing. That’s not way to build a Super Bowl winning team. It needs to change this off-season. He needs to nail this draft and we need to to see a philosophical change in terms of dollar investment. The fact that it “sounds” like Poyer is gone and Edmunds is trending that way, leads me to believe they may be starting to get it. Im not there yet, and they could certainly turn around and infuriate me, but this Edmunds quote has me a tiny bit more energized. Now just give me a cryptic Oliver tweet and we’ll be cooking with gas.
-
Remember when the Chiefs let guys like Ward, Matthieu, Ingram and Reed go, while trading Tyreek Hill and then won a Super Bowl the following year? Sometimes you let good/great players walk and the re-allocation of assets allows you to build a team more suited to winning a Super Bowl. Maybe that’s us this year letting Poyer and Edmunds walk, along with, perhaps, trading away a guy for picks and/or to free up cap.
-
Would you guys trade one of Elam/Benford/Jackson?
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Our best chance at securing extra picks (aside from trade backs) is putting Oliver and Basham on the block for Day 3 picks. Davis could probably bring back a Day 2 pick, and if we don’t plan on extending him, I’d think long and hard about moving him if we make a move like signing OBJ. -
As someone who agrees with you quite a bit at times and wants to take a blowtorch to the defense, I will say this… We got extremely unlucky that Von Miller tore his ACL. At the end of the day, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. If I transpose what happened to us, onto the Chiefs, they do not…. Chiefs have to play Dolphins in the WC, Bengals in the Divisional and Bills in the Championship (without Chris Jones). They, 100%, are not the Super Bowl Champions. Maybe they don’t get clapped by the Bengals like we did, but their season also ends in the Divisional Round.

QB Carr to visit the Jets (Update: signed with the Saints)
SCBills replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
They are going to get someone. At the end of the day, if we give Allen an OL and weapons, Carr can not keep up with him. I don’t care how good that defense is. -
Will GLADLY trade that for an Offense that doesn’t require Josh Allen to be elite week in/week out to function. If McDermott needs Edmunds on a Defense that will have Von, Jones, Rousseau, Milano, Johnson, Elam, White and Hyde, then fire him now.
-
Niners offense is LOADED. They also play in the NFC. Eagles found out what an elite defense looks like when playing one of the elite AFC QB’s.
-
For Knox, yes. I’m not nearly as forgiving for guys like AJ, Boogie and Oliver.
-
The DL/OL picks from Beane have been BRUTAL. Rousseau has some juice, although I agree, he’s likely never going to be elite. Above average DE is a fine return for where he was picked. However.. AJ, Boogie, Oliver, Ford, Teller (trade) + guys they didn’t draft to take some of these JAG’s. Just awful. If we don’t figure out Day 2… it’s going to be an uphill battle every year.
-
Clearly this tells the whole story.
-
Rousseau and Knox are not average. Both are good, with a lot of potential.
-
Another thing this report tells me, is that the Bills may actually do some unexpected stuff this off-season. I would NEVER have thought I’d see that tweet referenced by the OP, re: Tremaine. Gives some hope for those of us also begging them to trade Oliver and really transform the Offense.

Matt Araiza, The Punt God, Signs With Team in Mexico
SCBills replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills should bring him back, if our society wasn’t trash.. but we of course, can’t… and half our fans still probably believe the initial story. Once you’re branded, it’s over. You could tell Beane felt awful about having to cut him. If I had to guess, he knew he had to, but also knew he was cutting a guy for something that didn’t happen as it was framed. -
Bills go into next year with the following players on Defense: Von Miller Daquan Jones Greg Rousseau Matt Milano Taron Johnson Tre’Davious White Kaiir Elam Micah Hyde Figure it out.
-
Agreed, although I could see Jordan Phillips if he’s willing to come back cheap. He just can’t be relied upon enough to give him what we gave last year.
-
Lots of fans of other teams in the comments wanting him. I think Edmunds is going to get PAID. We’ll finally see if all this respect he gets from opposing coaches isn’t just lip service.
-
Good to hear. Really good player. And in another time, he’d make all the sense in the world to prioritize and bring back, but with heavy defensive dollars tied up in Von Miller, Tre White, Matt Milano and Micah Hyde (essentially one potential star player at each level of the defense), it’s time to move on. I’d still be shocked if we didn’t do something stupid like match what will inevitably be a big contract offer from someone else, but this is promising for those of us that want offensive investment this off-season.
-
Not worked up over this. He would’ve been nice this past year, but the Bills need a legit WR2, which would’ve made Hodgins a WR4 at best, likely WR5 behind Shakir next year … assuming that we do right by Josh (which is apparently assuming a lot).

Jalen Hurts This Jalen Hurts That - 3 Rush TDs
SCBills replied to Jerome007's topic in The Stadium Wall
Their WR room isn’t better than ours, simply because of Diggs.. but it’s way deeper and more versatile. Which is fine for them given they have the best offensive weapon in the league, Kelce. Would you rather have Chiefs weapons or Bills? I’m taking whichever group has Travis Kelce. Then factor in their OL that is infinitely better than ours at the moment .. which allows everyone to look better. -

SCBills replied to Jerome007's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would very much disagree with this assessment. Chiefs OL #2 in the NFL. Bills OL, bottom third of the league. Chiefs have the best TE, maybe in NFL history. Knox is a top 10 potential TE. Chiefs WR room is deep and versatile with MVS, Juju, Toney, Hardman, Moore (That's four WR2/3 guys and a RD2 rookie) Bills WR room is Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, Shakir (That's an elite WR1, a WR3, WR5, RD5 rookie) Chiefs RB room is Pacheco/McKinnon/CEH Bills RB room is Cook/Singletary/Hines On what planet is the Offensive talent for Buffalo equal to, or better than, the Chiefs? -
Don't think "WR2" in the upcoming draft. Think WR1.

There are some players I just don’t want on this team any longer, even if it’s just a slight cap savings. I love Poyer as a person/player for us, but I don’t want that much money tied up at safety. Edmunds is really good. And his discourse is going to drive me crazy until we inevitably re-sign him, but how can we justify that much at LB/Slot (Milano, Johnson AND Edmunds)… ok, cool. Sorry Josh, hope you don’t die.. we gotta have a defense that can annihilate mid-QB’s and then let us down in the playoffs. Oliver. I believe I’ve said enough on him and his cap hit. I’ll take a ham sandwich in return. Singletary. Don’t want him back. Not even on a friendly deal. Nothing about him ever excited me, and it’s time to move on and let him be good at everything, but not great at anything somewhere else. McKenzie. I’ll take the small cap savings. Shakir can, and should, do everything we had McKenzie doing. Give his money to Beasley, and then draft/sign a WR2. -
Bills need to hit on picks to have a chance
SCBills replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills have this Offense (or something similar) post draft and my faith will be restored.. Allen Cook/Hines/Ibrahim Dawkins/Bates/Morse/Torrence/Wright Diggs/OBJ/Davis/Shakir/Beasley Knox/Morris Free Agency - OBJ Draft - RD1 Torrence, RD2 Darnell Wright May require trading our RD3 to move up in RD2 to get Wright, but we get as sure fire as it gets prospects at G and RT. Day 3 can go all defense, aside from a Mohammed Ibrahim type at RB. That Offense is on par, or perhaps exceeds, every offense in the NFL. It’s not unrealistic. -

Im fine bringing back Beasley on a cheap deal, but not as the starting slot. We have a WR1 and a WR3. We need a WR2. Beasley and Shakir can be WR4 and WR5 if we get that legit WR2. Say we do sign OBJ.. I’m fine with Beasley as the part time slot, with Diggs/Davis/OBJ/Shakir all able to play inside/outside. Cole has a role here if he wants to sign for cheap, but he’s not an answer.
