Was Micah Hyde's injury the key to the Bills' season?
SCBills replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Defensive Head Coach, yet he apparently needs above average talent everywhere, plus depth, and still an injury or two leads to the annual patented destruction at the hands of a good Offense in the Playoffs. All at the detriment of our Offense that left the image of Allen, beat up, on the ground as he took hit after hit in a game we had no shot in. It wasn't about Hyde. It wasn't about Von. It wasn't about Daquan Jones. If McDermott can't field a good defense, that steps up with less talent than he has had, then next year can kindly be his last year here. -
There's a Damar Hamlin conspiracy theory on Twitter right now
SCBills replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not going to entertain this conspiracy theory.. even though I do love a good conspiracy theory (and some, maybe with more frequency, are becoming true) HOWEVER … If they were trying to create a conspiracy theory.. they are doing everything possible to do so. -
Some of us just have a philosophical issue with a Defensive Head Coach. There are glaringly obvious reasons why. If McDermott, as a Defensive HC, can’t do more with less on Defense and can’t, under his leadership, put out a unit that can remotely slow down good offenses in the Playoffs, why is he here? We’re already at a disadvantage Offensively with continuity.

Don't need that, but am hoping for more creativity than "run it back and hope we nail the draft". Don't really care for Edmunds being re-signed but also don't hate it. Looking for McBeane to make some tough decisions on defensive personnel that are under contract with us and maybe shouldn't be next year.. Then using that money on Offense.

Michael Thomas or Odell Beckham Jr.?
SCBills replied to thenorthremembers's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh Allen and Michael Thomas would be the football version of the Irresistible Force Paradox. Allen, who rarely throws slants, with slant boy as WR2. -
Yikes. Sounds like a fantastic off-season for a team that wants to continue finishing 3rd in the AFC.

If Tre is going to get back to pro-bowl caliber, it would happen next year. That's typically the timeline for an ACL with a Cornerback. That said, he says a lot of stuff that makes me wonder if his head is in it. I just don't know about him. No idea what to expect this off-season, because if the Bills truly want to help Josh Allen, they are going to have to make some pretty surprising moves with this Defensive roster.

Are the Bills committed to Ed Oliver in 2023?
SCBills replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Top Ten pick in year 4 against backups and a wildly mediocre starting Center and we're making excuses for him ... and advocating to pay him long term? These kind of moves, if made, are why we will be behind the Chiefs and Bengals. You can't pay guys on Defense who aren't reliable impact players when your QB is making 40M+ -

SCBills replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
Who's cutting him? We're all talking trade. He has value. Maybe we don't get back what we're hoping (Day 2 Pick) but even if we don't, it clears his 11M. We talk about investing on Offense.. How exactly do we suppose we'll do that if we have Oliver eating 11M on a 5th year option and/or pay Edmunds whatever it is he ends up getting. Enough. We are going to have to fill some roles on Defense with cheap/rookie players if we want to give Josh Allen an Offense that can go toe to toe with Burrow and the Bengals next year. -
I think some here nail it when they talk about how our offense was ill-designed for the playoffs and the weather conditions. We relied almost solely on the vertical pass game, which was never going to be ideal against a good defense, in poor footing conditions and low visibility. It's not the sole reason we lost, there's plenty of coaching/roster decisions to be evaluated, but it played a big part. Do we beat them indoors? I don't think so. They're just better coached, more talented and wanted it more.. But I also don't think it looks like it did on Sunday.

SCBills replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's infuriating that we even have to have this convo. They should've never picked up his option... now that we have, hopefully we can move him and at least get a pick back. Ed Oliver eating up 11M in a DT rotation, meanwhile (and who knows what comes available) we could take that 11M and sign the top IOL on the FA market. Then target WR and G/C/RT on Day1/Day2 of the Draft. -

SCBills replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's an undersized DT. That's not a necessity on this team, or any team. Good player, but he's a luxury. Trade him for a RD3 pick. Take his cap hit and sign an IOL. Go into next season with Daquan Jones and Tim Settle as your starting DT's. Some of our rotational guys can be JAG's... In fact, they're going to need to be if we want to give Josh Allen real help this off-season. -

SCBills replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall
They need to trade him. He is good, not great, and shouldn't be in our future plans. Shop him for a Day 2 pick and just move on. He's never stepped up in big moments and that cap hit makes me want to throw up.- 133 replies

Their defense would've certainly given us problems, but it would've been inside and we would've had Micah Hyde back, with a game under his belt, and two weeks to prepare against Brock Purdy. I think we'd have a chance there.

I actually think we could of beaten the Chiefs & Niners, but like the Bengals, the Eagles probably would've rocked us in the Super Bowl unless Josh Allen was just otherworldly. Bills Offense needs an overhaul. In order to compete for a Super Bowl they need 1 or 2 high quality OL talents added, along with a real WR2 (with WR1 potential/ability) on the roster allowing Davis to be WR3 with Diggs as WR1. That puts Allen's Offensive talent on par with Cincy and KC. Will they do that while being ok with notable potential downgrades at certain positions on the Defense? Not sure..

I feel like this is so much easier to get over than 13 seconds. You couldn't talk to me for days after that. Now, the reason I'm taking this easier is because I feel it was necessary. This team, if not constructed/coached to a degree that's Super Bowl worthy, needed a wake-up call. They got it. I have faith coaching and major personnel changes will be made this off-season to change the defensive philosophy and direct more resources to the offense. If we just run it back and re-sign Edmunds, draft one early OL and a Day 2 WR, then call it an off-season, I'll probably feel worse at that point than I am now.... because it will be evident to me that McDermott/Beane may not have what it takes.

I can’t handle another off-season where we do this …. It was either Howard or Jeremy yesterday: We need a WR ”oh, you want a RB?” No, a WR ”oh, ok, so a TE?” No! A WR… ”Ah, ok, got it .. pass catching RB”
-
Not directing this condescension towards you, but how about .. novel idea here.. we bring in a DC with a Defensive philosophy that doesn’t require above average talent everywhere on the field to remotely slow down a good offense in the playoffs? Let Poyer walk. Let Edmunds walk. Let Phillips walk. Trade Oliver. Bring back the modest contract pieces like Shaq, Klein, Dodson, Marlowe and Dane. DE: Von, Roussseau, Shaq, AJ, Basham DT: Jones, Settle LB: Milano, Dodson, Bernard, Klein CB: White, Elam, Jackson, Benford NICKEL: Johnson, Neal S: Hyde, Marlowe I mean…. Figure it out… there’s enough talent there. Contractually, we have to cross our fingers that Von, White and Hyde all come back strong from their injury recovery. There’s no way around that. Now we have money to spend in FA on Offense. Go Offense on Day 1 and Day 2, then fill in our Defense on Day 3. Will there be weaknesses? Probably. Figure it out. Chiefs have weaknesses all over that defense. Maybe it gets exposed by Cincy this weekend? Maybe not? But it is what it is. At least, if Mahomes was healthy, (at worst) they have a good shot to keep pace/out-score the Bengals.

Was bringing Hamlin into locker room just a bad call...
SCBills replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
I will choose to believe he was there, and this isn’t some super weird body double situation that everyone is in on… ….but if anyone wanted to create the illusion that something strange is going on, he/they are doing everything possible to give that illusion. -
Everybody's Feeling Stung right Now but please.....
SCBills replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
“How, every year, it’s the same thing” - Stefon Diggs, not a poster on TBD. -
Nah.. I want everyone to have narratives. If Josh has the unfair “can’t beat Burrow or Mahomes in the Playoffs” narrative, give Mahomes the “can’t beat Burrow” narrative and Burrow the “can’t win the big one” narrative.

SCBills replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall
Everything about yesterday was weird, including the Hamlin appearance. They might as well had a body double there. Random angles, blurry snow shot, hidden as being driven in. That game felt like an awful fever dream. -
Bengals have zero reason to respect us at the moment. That being said, that tweet crosses the line, and if we have any sense of self-respect, he’ll get his when we see them next year.
