Herbert deal signed : 262M - 5 yrs extension

Bengals already letting other guys set the market with Burrow, although some reports are that Burrow isn't ready to sign anything. Let's all hope Justin Jefferson signs before Ja'Marr Chase as well... -

I very much want Torrence to win the starting spot, but Bates is a decent player and Kromer is somewhat known for guys making a jump in year 2 of his system. It shouldn't be concerning if Bates enters the season as starting RG. Elam is a very frustrating situation that, to the outside fans pov, makes no sense given his play on the field. -

I think there's a difference, as you allude to in adjustment, with Dodson filling in for Edmunds in Edmunds role... and Dodson starting at MLB in McDermott's Defense, in which Dodson, hypothetically, earns the starting role. I'm also not sure Dodson is a typical McD 3 down LB, so if there is a larger role envisioned for Rapp, it could be as a rotation piece for Dodson and Johnson in different packages. I'd much rather Bernard or Williams win the spot, but at the very least, I'm incredibly relieved that we didn't overpay for a flawed MLB. -

NFL has a salary cap but a perfect illustration of the differences in owners.. Talk of Burrow needing to take less in guaranteed money because his owner doesn’t have the ability to keep enough money in escrow to play cap games in order to attempt to keep their Big 3 together, let alone guys like Boyd, Reader and their pass rushers. Meanwhile.. Jets owe Aaron Rodgers over 100M next year. Obviously they’re not paying that, and will likely spread the hit out over void years.. Pegula seemingly gives Beane a blank check to any, and everything, under the cap. -

Kincaid is who I’ll be paying attention to. As a fully functioning TE, it’s tough to make a huge impact as a rookie, historically speaking. However, if Kincaid gets work mainly in the slot, while moving inside to chip/block and keep defenses honest, he could be as an impactful as many rookie WR’s as of late. It would be so huge to get a legit weapon in the middle of the field that allows Gabe Davis to play off him with Diggs as the 1. An improved OL with Diggs, Davis, Kincaid, Knox and Cook as the focal weapons would not only be massive for this year, but for the future nucleus of this team as we start transitioning into our next window with the current OL top 6 all locked down for multiple years with Morse being a year to year player imo. (I do think Davis will get extended) Oliver, Rousseau & Elam making the jump on defense would also, obviously, help immensely. -

The Chargers Offense is weird .. not sure if it’s by design for Herbert or what, but every game seems like a hundred dump offs to Ekeler with intermediate to deep shots down the field to zero separation big/physical WR’s. -

And Lamar was given the MVP for his troubles. He can’t stay healthy the past two years, and struggles in the playoffs. Herbert, with his one brutal playoff loss included, has at least shown he can win regular season games from the pocket. I think the Top 3 are clear in Mahomes, Allen and Burrow, but after those 3 it’s a toss up with Hurts, Herbert, Lawrence, Lamar etc.. I think don’t think any GM, if drafting from those 4 to start a franchise, would choose Lamar. -

Yea.. just saw some quotes from him yesterday. He’s all but admitting this is the last year of all three together. Times like this are when we should be seriously thankful for the Pegula’s. -

Literally my only thought about this is how it pertains to Burrow & the Bengals. They have 3 guys who do not seem like discount deal guys in Burrow, Higgins and Chase. Good for Herbert though. Maybe he can finally hand Mahomes a loss again. -
PFF Top 50 Players for 2023 - Josh Allen at 12, Diggs at 24
SCBills replied to Lost's topic in The Stadium Wall
Josh Allen is the #2 player in the NFL, and the only one with the ability to overtake Mahomes for #1. Let people sleep on him because he’s been on a less talented offense than Mahomes/Burrow, and played half a season with a torn UCL. Through no fault of his own, 13 seconds has been a dagger to his reputation amongst the elite thus far. -
They signed Jones to moderate deal that they can get out of pretty quickly. What would you have them do? Tank the season?… because that was the other choice. They decided not to. Therefore they signed Daniel Jones. Having a competent QB, regardless of what you think of him, makes them a playoff contender in the NFC. Saquon Barkley, a RB, does not.
-
Barkley is elite .. he’s not McCaffrey (imo) McCaffrey is an elite RB and an elite slot WR. Also, the Giants roster is not elite at almost every other position.. Theres no Bosa, no Warner, no Kittle, no Deebo etc.., And most importantly, no Kyle Shanahan. (For as good as Daboll is, Shanahan is unique).
-
It 100% does. These comparisons are honestly getting ridiculous. Giants have a chance to make the playoffs with Daniel Jones, who is a Carr/Cousins ceiling QB, in the NFC. Giants have no chance if they had to start over with a rookie while leaning on a massive multi-year deal for an elite RB that’s dealt with injuries prior to this past year. They’re in that weird mid-level/back-end of the Top 10-12 QB category. Probably not good enough to win big, or consistently with.. but in a weak conference, the QB makes them a playoff contender and they’d need to tank the season if they had thoughts of Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Barkley maybe adds a win or two to their record. Jones is what makes them a playoff contender… even with the weaknesses he has.
-
Solid player, but that’s about it. Adequate. Can definitely do worse. Count me as someone who would rather have Phillips. Hopefully he doesn’t try to sprint after QB’s for no reason in the open field and stay healthy. As long as we have Daquan Jones, Poona Ford and Ed Oliver, give me the DT4 that can make splash plays when used a little more sparingly to preserve his body.

All-Pro DT Chris Jones not at Chiefs Mandatory Minicamp
SCBills replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
30M/year or having to trade Chris Jones would certainly help re-align the step up they’ve taken over the rest of us from crushing the draft recently in conjunction with the Tyreek Hill trade. -
Yea, in fairness, if Allen’s injury truly limited his ability/accuracy to throw short … that would clearly affect the RB passing game. Im just to the point where I want a defined offense with punch, counter punch and an effective jab. We have way too many options, and outside Diggs, none of them elite/game-breaking… yet. Figure out the run scheme.. stop being game specific. It’s ridiculous. Pass catching RB’s, multiple TE’s.. ok… How about we just have solid RB play and focus on making sure our true investments at TE pay off this year? There’s our punch (Diggs/Davis) counter punch (Knox/Kincaid) and a power run game with Cook/Harris/Murray & improved OL (effective jab) I never needed to see how we integrate yet another random player into the offense with Hines.

This is from the Syracuse.com write up on Harty.. “Harty has played 554 offensive snaps and 354 special teams snaps over the course of his three seasons. Five of his nine career fumbles have been muffed punts and the other four all happened on special teams. He’s never fumbled the ball on offense.”
-
For one.. it almost started to feel like “too many options” with the Bills perhaps feeling forced to integrate Hines into the Offense. Now.. it’s, somewhat, defined roles. RB1a/Pass Catcher - James Cook RB1b - Damien Harris RB3/Power Back - Latavius Murray I honestly like this RB room a lot. Bigger, and more powerful, than the RB rooms we’ve had with Allen .. while still retaining the speed/game-breaker element in James Cook. Obviously losing Hines, if he were to make the team, hurts KR/PR, as he was top tier in that respect. Deonte Harty is just as electric, however, with a higher variance of ball security issues. I’d suspect he now focuses on KR/PR .. which may also define passing roles a bit more, with Kincaid/Slot WR also being a bit murky.

Interesting tweet … although, personally, unless Jones is seeking an Aaron Donald contract, I think the Chiefs are set up pretty well. I’ve seen quite a few saying trade him and others saying that just because the Hill trade worked out, doesn’t mean Jones would… What say y’all?… obviously Jones signing on a team friendly deal is a bad scenario for us, BUT if not… would you rather he sign a mega Donald type deal or the Chiefs trade him for another boatload of picks? They’re obviously, in my view, set up well for the future in comparison to the Bills, Bengals, Dolphins, Chargers, Jets, Ravens etc., that Hill deal put them a step ahead of all of us financially… but Chris Jones is the most dominant DT not named Donald (and I might be willing to say he’s on his level).. they don’t make the run they’re on now without him. -

Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)

Toney was a recent RD1 pick and Moore a recent RD2 pick. The stretch is you saying you wouldn't trade a recent RD5 pick and two journeyman WR's for them. -

Best case scenario, aside for us getting im on a team friendly deal. Jags looked to have a cakewalk to the division and no reason they can’t compete for the 1 seed. At least now there’s a team with any level of ability in the AFC South that they have to face x2.
