Where is the data to suggest that things will change?

Not sure if serious.... -
Where is the data to suggest that things will change?

Manning wouldn't just have 1 bad game a year. And he was pretty abysmal in the playoffs on a regular basis for many years. We tend to mythologize the greats - but they weren't models of consistency for the most part. Most seem to think last night was the worst game we've ever seen from Allen. -

I was upset yesterday. I just don't go into hot-take overdrive, and I remember what life was like before Allen. -

" Great, elite QB's, don't do what Josh did tonight" I mean, I just started a thread earlier about Peyton Manning throwing 6 picks in a primetime game. And they all have had games like that. As to the main question of the OP: I was pretty encouraged by literally every other facet of the game for the Bills. I thought the pass rush was way better, the O-line was good, Bernard held up well, Kincaid looked like the guy we hoped he would be, Groot has taken a next step, et al. This is a better team than last year. Josh just has to be better than he was last night.- 105 replies

Peyton Manning threw 6 picks in a primetime game once
Success replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
So, he's had more than one bad game? I'm not sure what people expect. There aren't many QB's out there who don't lay an egg from time to time. -

You're comparing Allen to Peterman? I mean, what about the Josh Allen experience isn't working for everyone? The double digit wins every year? Carrying his team for entire games? Looking like a video game for large stretches of the season? Making the Bills an annual contender? -
It happens to the best. Everyone is worried about Allen - don't be. He has shown resiliency throughout his career, and has what you want in a QB: a short memory. The Jets defense is elite, and they have wrinkles which have consistently given JA problems. That in itself IS a problem, but it doesn't indicate some wider, more overarching issue. It was just a bad match-up to have for the 1st game of the season. The Bills are going to bounce back, and have a great season. I have no doubt on that. The team I saw last night was better than last year's. The defense was stronger. We gave up some runs, but that pass rush was fierce, and our LB's and secondary looked solid. I thought Bernard had a great game. Kincaid is who we hoped he would be. The O-line held up pretty well against one of the best fronts in the league. The loss was solely on Allen. And that isn't a bad thing - because he'll be better.

There were some positives this game
Success replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Groot was so much fun to watch. Oliver had a nice game too - and looks bigger. Milano was stellar. Tre defended that TD pass as well as you could. Just a ridiculous catch. Kincaid, of course. The O-line looked pretty solid for the most part. Seemed like Brown was holding it down. Diggs is so good. Really, if we made a list - the positives go on & on & on. And the negatives are really "Allen's turnovers." Love the guy, but he single-handedly lost this game. He'll win many more for us.- 54 replies

I was really happy at halftime. He wasn't lighting it up - but he was playing well, against a really good defense. The wheels just came off. But ultimately, it was just one bad half.

2023 NFL Season - Week #1 - Bills at Jets - Post game game thread
Success replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
You missed the 2nd part of my argument. I said that it's valid to say every game is a big game. But not in the context of saying "Allen doesn't show up in the big games." Because, then - you're saying he never shows up. That's all. I think it was a somewhat significant game - but I'd be hard pressed to call it a "big game." Those don't really happen until we get deep into the season and playoffs, imo. -

If week 1 is a big game, every game is a big game. That is not an invalid argument - but when someone says something like, Allen never shows up in the big games - by the nature of a statement like that, every game isn't a big game. So, no - this was not a big game, by most definitions. -

I can save everyone a ton of time: - The Bills window is definitely closed - Allen can't get over his turnover problem - he'll never rise to the level of (insert hot QB here, along w/ Mahomes) - It's Miami's division now - Blah, blah, blah - hot take - blah, blah, blah -

He has a mixed record in big games. He has been spectacular in some. Tonight, btw, was not a big game. -

My advice for the week: don't watch ESPN. Don't listen to Bill Simmons. For the love of all that is holy, don't watch or listen to or read Nick Wright. It's a good week to spend more time w/ family, maybe catch up on a few shows. -
C'mon. This is WEEK ONE. Are the Bengals not SB winning material? How about the Chiefs? It was a terrible game for Allen. But that's it. The OP is right - there were a ton of positives w/ pretty much every other unit & player.

Start the Diggs hates Buffalo stories again.

If the Bills weren't completely written off all summer - they are now. I kind of like it. -

This is such a ridiculous take. They might? We'll see how it goes. Is Allen planning on 4 turnovers a game now or something? -

My optimistic take: We've tried the whole "tear through the league in Sept. & Oct., then fizzle out" thing. Maybe we learned some lessons tonight. If Allen didn't have that kind of game, we win easy - the D looked good, Kincaid looked good, there were a lot of positives outside of JA. We can hopefully string together a couple of wins against sub-par teams now, and see where we really stand when Miami comes to town. -

This is a great game so far. I guess it's a little "ugly" - but we've moved the ball well, and the D has been stellar for the most part. Can't ask for much more. -

That guy who flipped off the camera? Been there. -
He has the talent. He was good when he played last year. This feels like a personality/process/scheme thing (not all the same things - but close enough). And if that's the case, it reflects more on the staff than on him. There are situations in the league where he would likely thrive with his skillset.
-
I'm trying to separate myself from expectations. It's not easy. I lived through the Kelly years, and now we have Josh Allen. Odds are that we're unlikely to get another incredible QB again in my lifetime -so, I really just want to enjoy every game that Allen plays, and the time that we have him. My energy is definitely different this year because of that. I'm just low-key about the whole thing. I'm less invested in the outcome of winning it all, and more living in the moment & just trying to enjoy each week.

If the Bills win tonight, does the narrative change?
Success replied to ChicagoRic's topic in The Stadium Wall
Of course. Narratives change every week in the NFL. The media is lost right now - the 2 darlings of the AFC lost in the 1st week, and the 2 "marquee" QB's looked kind of bad. If Allen comes out & looks great, and the Bills win going away? Buckle up. The Bills will be back on top of everyone's radar. -

I like that there is going to be some weather. We can't just be that team that plays great when the sun is out & the temp is comfortable.
