When did "tall" become "long"?

If character means something we just hit a home run
yungmack replied to 17 Josh Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has fully taken responsibility for going off the rails, said he "got lazy," and seems to have learned from his errors. Isn't that really what "character" means, that we learn from our mistakes, take responsibility, and become a more mature person? -
No matter the opinions on the price the Bills paid to get Watkins (and I believe it is actually cheap), how is it that these "experts" can regard him as a once-in-a-generation receiver, then slam the Bills for taking him while giving the Browns a pass for NOT taking him. Personally I'm happy with the Watkins pick and I think the Browns passing on him was a huge mistake, especially considering the player they took at 9.

Very plausible and well-reasoned. Good work.

Drastically over valued players in this years draft -

So good to get some intelligent insight instead of that useless info that comes from that silly Mike Mayock. -

Howard Milstein interested in the Bills

You forgot to call her a thug. -
It's the beginning of May and it just occurred to me that there have been almost no stories about Nathanial Hackett or Jeff Tuel since the end of the season. I've heard a lot about the new QB coach, EJ's off-season practices and seeking advice, lots of talk around here about getting another QB, or the absolute need for a "#1 WR" of TE. Coach Marrone has weighed in, as has Doug Whaley. Yet nothing about -- or from -- the guy who supposedly is in charge of the offense. Once I started thinking about this silence, I thought it was odd. And Tuel...Last year he had many of us around here excited to the point were some were actually envisioning him becoming the starter. Then he had his well-reported problems on the field and since then he too seems to have disappeared from Bills news and discussions. And we're having more talks about bringing in another back-up QB, maybe drafting one, etc. as though Tuel didn't even exist. Personally, I'd like to believe that the guy we saw last summer and early in the season is the "real" Tuel, and that he's used his time in the barrel to greatly improve himself and will have become the guy who got us excited last year. I'm not saying that the silence from, and about, these two guys suggests anything nefarious, just that it's kind of odd.

Mayock might only do one mock draft, but he constantly changes his rankings of players as the draft gets closer.

Howard Milstein interested in the Bills
yungmack replied to SF Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, Milstein, the guy who played a whole lot of angles and political connections to take over a city that's home to one of the more spectacular natural wonders, then gutted it, looted it and left a hollowed-out wreck behind, now wants to buy the Bills, probably by playing a whole lot of angles and political connections. Give his history, would anyone really be surprised if the Bills wind up in the same condition as The Falls? If Milstein is seen as an appropriate owner, why not Donald Sterling? He's about to come into at least $1 billion. -

A case to be made for Zack Martin
yungmack replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some how this falsehood has taken hold, probably because people (and I am not singling you out, this is widespread) haven't paid close attention to the claim that "this is the deepest draft in years FOR WIDE RECEIVERS." No one thinks it's a great one for QBs, nor is it particularly deep (in the "can't miss" category) for DL. Beyond the top two, maybe three guys, the TE position isn't particularly deep. There don't seem to be any RBs making teams drool. However, and fortunately for the Bills, it does seem to be deep across the OL, and at LB, at least enough to get very good players through the first two rounds. BTW, Zack Martin is a member of the legendary Matthews clan. -
Would you trade two 1st round picks for Tony Romo?
yungmack replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because of his age, injury history and gigantic contract, if I were the Bills the only way I'd make this deal is if Dallas gave Buffalo their two first round picks. -
You may be correct the Bills may regret not taking Ebron (if they don't, that is). But they will also regret not taking Richardson, Matthews, Lewan, Evans, Bortles, Carr or anyone else. Unfortunately for the Bills, they can take only one player at #9. The NFL always finds a way to screw Buffalo.

Big, big obituary in the LA Times this morning. -
You seriously want to go defense with the #9 pick? That's where you see the greatest need? Just asking.

The original NFL ownership was loaded with "questionable" characters, many who had ties to gambling, bookmaking and, not surprisingly, to the nascent organized crime families. The Rooney and Mara families were both heavily involved in all aspects of what is now known as "the gaming industry." I don't know if anyone has written a comprehensive book about this aspect of the early league. JW, get crackin'!

I was impressed with the Murphy segment. Sounds like he's making all the right moves. I very much like that he's working with Calhoun, who is maybe the best "QB whisperer" around. Fingers crossed about injuries.

"Draft Value" is dumb. Take BPA and dont look back
yungmack replied to maddenboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
"Draft Value" and "BPA" are dependent on the needs of the team doing the drafting. Back when SF had both Montana and Young, would they have drafted another QB just because he was the BPA? No. And as to never taking a RB in the first round, what if you had the chance to grab the second coming of Jim Brown, Cookie Gilchrist, Earl Campbell or OJ Simpson? Sounds like you'd pass on them but I would run up to the podium to put in the card. -
Are you apologizing for The Hotel New Hampshire, Mr. Lithgow?
