Former Bills to Open High End Steakhouse in Buffalo

How about Peter Luger's? Not in Manhattan but...And then there's The Palm... One of the great movies of all time. -
If he could be brought back from the Netherworld, it's no contest: Paul Brown. The modern game of football is his legacy, and every coach at every level his part of his "tree." If the Bills are discriminating against the dead and will only hire the living, then Belichick followed by Pete Carroll or Bruce Arians. If none of them want the job, fly Doug Marrone into town and check his level of interest, then don't hire him. What sort of condition is Lou Saban in?

Bills analytics dept--focuses mostly on ticket pricing

First off, compliments to TG for a rarity by Buffalo media: a story in depth in which complicated ideas are clearly explained and from which I learned things I didn't know. Secondly, the possible shortcomings in analytics is revealed by the data on Carolina. If I understand it correctly, the data shows that Carolina made it to the SB but shouldn't have if the analytics was infallible which reminds me of that old saw, "Who ya gonna believe, me or your lyin'eyes." I once met an American couple in France who set out touring the Cote du Rhone wine countryside using GPS. The device took them on the correct highway then onto a country road then onto a narrow dirt lane and finally down into a no-path field where they became enmeshed in brambles and had to be towed out. I asked why they kept going when they could see the mess they were getting into and the guy said, "Because that's what the GPS was telling them to do." -
Look, I am one of those who loathes Rex in every aspect, and not just his coaching. I would not be surprised if he is gone before the first game, or before the last one. But for now he's here, he's the HC, and the fate of the Bills is in his hands for now so I'm hoping he goes at least 11-5 while knocking off the Pats twice, and grabbing at least one win in the post season. That won't make me loathe him less as a person but winning sure would be a fair trade off.

PFF Asks What is Tyrod Taylor's Ceiling?

I agree 100%. My only concern about TT is his body type: it reminds me of RGIII and might make him similarly injury prone. Other than that, I think he's going to be fantastic. -
It is my feeling that pro football has peaked within the US and further growth must come elsewhere. It might be that domestic revenue growth has also peaked and will grow largely through inflation. It might even begin to fall as even hard core fans seem to have reached a financial limit if the dismal failure of Time Warner's Dodger deal is any indication. Anecdotally, it also appears that the audience is greying. And with the FCC changes coming in the set-top box area, and the opening up of access across providers and subscriptions apparently coming near fruition (which will give us one-app access to all our programming), and the acceleration of cord cutting, the business model is in flux. Once unbundling gets rolling, the absence of those cable subscribers who've been essentially subsidizing the sports fans will, it seems, force up prices for those of us who want to keep our (paid) access to sports programming. It's likely to be a huge jump in our individual costs and that might drive away a significant percentage of sports fans. All of this adds up to continuing problems for ESPN.

But you can also include their history in your assessment. So far, not so good in Rexy's case. Wasn't Hue Jackson interviewed? -
MMQB: Rex + Rob: The Battling (and Babbling) Buffalo Bros

If you are old enough you remember Big Daddy Lipscomb, a truly terrifying defense man (the nickname gives a hint). Here's what he said about how to play defense:"You keep picking up guys and tossing them aside until you find the one with the ball. Him you keep." And that, Rexy and Robbie, is defense in its essence. -
Now that is truly funny.

Are you simply obtuse? Modern autos are most certainly built to be protective in the event of a crash while they are most certainly not meant to be intentionally crashed. Ach, the damage done by Derrida.

So what you're saying is, this is all just practice and not part of the regular season? This is going to upset some posters around here. -
The sky is always falling, or getting ready to fall, or has already fallen because... "It's Buffalo, Jake."
-
No they can't. The modern automobile is "built" to protect passengers should you crash into a tree; it is not "meant" to do that.
-
And did so in 2011. Is this the smoking gun behind Whaley's statement? Is he secretly reading The Onion and taking it at face value? Is he being punked by God as Buddy was by that "interviewer?" Does God hate the Bills or just their fans?
-
I disagree: it's far more than mere semantics. Damage -- some of it grievous -- inflicted by another player, is an ordinary condition of football. Baseball, basketball, tennis, golf...not so much. If you play football, you are going to get hurt because the human body isn't built to withstand the type of contact that's the essence of the game. Eliminate the contact, or overly restrict it, and you've essentially ended the sport. As to whether the human body is "meant" to play the game, that's more of a philosophical question. The only things human bodies aren't "meant" to do are things that are impossible to do, such as walk around in outer space without a g-suit. Whether or not it's intelligent to do some of things we do is another question. But no matter how weird, if it's at all possible, someone will do it. Witness "Jackass."
-
If Whaley had said "built to play" instead of "meant to play," doubt there would have been nearly the reaction.

Yep. I take the Red Line subway to the Expo Line which stops right at the Colosseum. Couldn't be easier. Anybody from east of downtown can take the Gold Line or a Metro train to Union Station and connect over to the Expo. If you fly in the day of the game, try Burbank. Take the shuttle to the Red Line or p/u a Metro train right at the airport. If you use LAX, grab an Uber to the Santa Monica Expo station. If you're coming from SD or Orange County, take the Amtrak to Union Station, then the Red Line to 7th St., switch to the Expo line, yadda yadda yadda. It's cheap, no traffic hassles, no DUIs, and the trains will be packed with fans. No need to take a car anywhere near downtown. -

Shaq Lawson fiasco? It was pretty clear he was going to need surgery. The question was, Could it wait till the offseason? So the surgery is no surprise, only the timing. Not a biggie in the overall picture. And if Shaq is as good as advertised, imagine how much better he'll be for the next decade after the surgery. How's that for OOO-ism? -
Please keep in mind that a receiver is totally dependent on the QB and the OC.
