Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
yungmack replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley was building a fine roster...until he helped bring in Rex who began ripping apart the roster, misusing the players, hiring every rum dum yes man he ever employed in his life, failing to properly prepare his team mentally and physically, then topped all by hiring his idiot brother whose failed D from New Orleans was on full display Thursday in, I guess, a stubborn attempt by Rex to show Sean Payton he made a big mistake firing his "genius" slob of a sibling. Whaley's mistake was hiring Rex and he's compounding it by not firing him immediately. There are no problems with anything else he's done. In fact, he's been a great GM otherwise. -

Buffalo Bills Fire Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The D last night looked like a carbon copy of Robby's NO's D last year which got him fired during the season. While I think firing GRo was stupid, it's not likely to make much of a difference with the O as Lynn cannot possibly install a competely new one at this point, given the limitations of the line and the QBs. But NOT firing Rob about condemns the D to wretchedness for the rest of the season. -
Jeremy White: Bills vs. Ravens All-22 Review
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Breakdown in coverage really matters if you hold onto the ball too long, which probably comes from not being able to anticipate where your receivers are supposed to be. I believe Brady lets go of the ball somewhere around 2 seconds. If TT can't do that, or if Roman isn't coaching TT that way, this is going to be a very long season. -
To be clear, I wasn't saying Rex should be fired after one game, or even that he's on the hot seat. What I am saying is that should the Bills continue to look like a clown show, I have to believe the Pegulas will replace him, though probably not until after the season. With that possibility in mind, I was just wondering who the more knowledgeable people around here think would be a great replacement. I personally don't want to see any more retreads like Rex, or great coordinators who don't seem to have the goods for HC, like Chan, and definitely not someone in their 70s like Coughlin. Ideally, you want something like the Steelers have, who are on just their third head coach in nearly 50 years. But to pull that off, you have to identify a HC you can commit to for whatever period of time it takes to get the franchise into that high success category. That's a huge act of faith and one you have to get right. But the process the Bills have been stuck in for a couple of decades now -- a new HC ever two, three years -- has failed horribly. And I think they've wiffed with Rex. Better to cut your losses and move on.

If you could pick just ONE player

Cookie. Hands down. -
Well, they're 0-1 with their list so this is just an attempt to get some (hopefully) fresh suggestions out there.

I, and many of us around here, have for some time been expecting Rex to be fired. The more cautious sorts have favored the "give him some more time and let's see if he can fix this" approach. I believe that's been the Pegula's stance, because they believe in organizational stability which, if you have the right people, is the sensible method. And I think they also felt that Rex could turn things around, particularly with the defense, which was his biggest failure last season. In fairness, it does seem somewhat better based on yesterday's performance. But after yesterday's abysmal performance by the Bills in almost all other areas -- coaching confusion, game planning, continuing lack of discipline, player preparation -- and the many off-season problems leading to suspensions given and maybe more coming, I have to think that the Pegula's are at the very least at this moment considering a coaching change, if not now then after this season at the latest. With that in mind, I would like to invite anyone who is really good at identifying potential HC candidates to weigh in here. I am not one of those people. I'd like to hear from the sort of person who can identify a Bruce Arians, a Mike McCarthy languishing away, or even can make the case why a first rate coordinator such as a Wade Phillips would NOT be ideal as a head coach. Maybe it's someone in college, though most of those who've come into the NFL have flopped spectacularly. Could be there's a former NFL guy who's gone into college coaching and is redeeming himself, a la Pete Carroll. In any case, it's beyond my limited knowledge. So if any of you have suggestions, I'm certain many of us would like to hear them.

Watkins: injured or just trying to leave the Bills?
yungmack replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What keeps good players around -- and brings in good FAs -- in poor times is belief that things are on a definite upswing. Hope, in other words. And that's the jolt the hiring of Rex did last year. His epic fail with the D had to cut into some of that optimism. And now this year, it already appears the Bills are in a mess. If you believe you're one of the best and yet you are an after thought around the league, and that's largely because of inferior players and inept coaching on your team, would you want to perhaps try a change of scenery? While I doubt Sammy is faking an injury in order to get out of Buffalo, I really wouldn't be surprised if he did leave. Especially after yesterday. If I was Sammy, I think I'd be at least a little discouraged that I'm facing yet another season of career mediocrity. Heck, I feel that as a fan. And don't be surprised if other players begin to look fondly at what their friends and former teammates are accomplishing on other teams and begin to plan for getting out of town. -

Sad how many people posting here are slaves to authority, coming up with variants on the old "I disagree with it but it is the law and so must be obeyed." Seems like some would flip that old adage and take as their motto, "I'd rather live on my knees than die on my feet." -

I think Benoit has confused Manuel with Taylor. Otherwise, that statement is just plain nuts. -
Still rather have Hogan than Jones as the #3 guy, especially after watching the final preseason game.

Glen Gronkowski: "A Dream Come True"
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just a guess but I think the reason Gronkowski made the team over Felton is for his running and pass-catching ability. With Karlos gone, the Bills are in sore need of the big back who smashes through the line. From the little bit I've seen of him in camp and the preseason, Gronkowski can do that. Gillislee, Wilder, Herron, Williams consistently got knocked around in heavy traffic at the line. I believe we will see some interesting plays from Roman with this new "toy." -

Kaepernick and the National Anthem
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
In just about 2 days, a fan site in one of the smallest NFL cities has reached over 50 pages of comments, screeds, anger et al so, yeah, it seems as though whether or not you agree with Kaepernick, the response on TBD proves that it was highly effective. You could hardly have expected this if you were Kaepernick and could hardly have asked for more. Front page news around the country, covered on all the newscasts, and so on. Which is the best retort to those around here of the opinion that "he should just keep his mouth shut." And for those of you who are of the opinion that he should be punished for "disrespecting" the flag and "disrespecting" the Constitution and "disrespecting" our vets, the flag represents the nation in whole, including jerks, the purpose of the Constitution is always to protect the rights of the minority against the tyranny of the majority, fully understanding that the minority opinion is quite often despised by the majority, and the vets served to uphold the rights, the often unpopular rights, of that minority. We have the Constitution to protect the Kaepernick's of this nation from the bared-fang types who would do harm to those who exercise their rights while demanding they "get out of the country." It is those beastly types the Constitution is meant to chain and restrain. By exercising his unpopular viewpoint, Kaepernick honors the sacrifices of veterans (of which I am one), honors the Constitution and honors the flag. Those who condemn him are the Un-American ones. -
Kaepernick and the National Anthem
yungmack replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It's "All men are CREATED equal." It's an aspiration from the Declaration. The Constitution is the attempt to make the aspirations practical in governance, and it means all are to be treated equally under the law. In every day life, we are wildly unequal. And even under the law some people are "more equal than others." That's why so few wealthy and powerful people ever go to prison or wind up executed. -
Can't be worried about the penalties because it seemed to me at least half of them were BS.

"They" do? And you know this how? And they all didn't take college seriously? I guess Robert Woods was just joking about using all his off seasons to get his degree from USC. As far as I can tell, the overwhelming number of players on the Bills take their jobs seriously, put in the work and the study, play hard and aren't doing any knuckle-headed things. How do you explain that?
