I think McDermott's hiring is consistent with what they will look at from a GM. The only downside would be if the GM states he doesn't want McDerm but not sure if that will surface as an issue. McDermott looks like probably the best option out there this year. Hiring a GM with Rex still here would have been a bigger issue.

I would personally like to see us go after Eliot Wolf for GM. There are some very good options with Veach from KC, Beane from Carolina and DeCosta from Baltimore but I could see Wolf as a superstar GM. First he has a wealth of talent as well as good family lines with his dad Ron, which I am sure could help in running an organization. Eliot comes from a solidly run organization that understands how to draft and develop a good consistent football team. He has also been involved in scouting players since he was 14 and watched scouting videos at the young of 10 with his dad. Who else would you want to learn player scouting from than Ron Wolf? He also doesn't freak out at press conferences...

[closed]It's good that Whaley's gone but...
Billzgobowlin replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they had every intention of keeping Whaley but they probably saw the discord between Whaley and the newest coach as with Whaley in the past and decided it was too toxic to keep Whaley. Also Pegula probably realized that from McDermott that roster construction was majorly flawed. Ryan lost out temporarily but when Whaley had the same issues with McDerm Whaley had to go. -
Whaley has done a better job of drafting than Pats
Billzgobowlin replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pats always draft at the bottom of each round we draft near the top. They trade down and gain more picks, we trade up to get higher picks. They trade a lot of picks to get proven players we don't. Whaley overall may make better picks but he certainly didn't have a pulse on the team and how to construct one. -
Breer: Bills an organization that is still broken.

Pats fans laughing at Bills GM firing
Billzgobowlin replied to CanadianFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have zero respect for a franchise that has been caught getting away with cheating twice and hiding and lying about it. -
I hope not. Too soon after he was fired for a drinking problem. I wouldn't mind hiring him but in an advisory role only.

He later said that he knew he wasn't even a consideration for the job so that's why he took his name out. After that he was in the running for the Colts job but they chose Ballard.

I have wanted Eliot Wolf for a while. He is a top notch evaluator and will be running the show in Green Bay soon if no one scoops him up.

GM Doug Whaley has been fired
Billzgobowlin replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't buy the Panthers assistant GM replacing Whaley but I do see it being possible Whaley does get fired. Pegula got rid of Tim Murray because of discipline issues and I am sure McDermott or even Polian brought these issues to light in the Bills organization first. My guess is that Polian stayed away in the first place because of that such issue and Pegula wasn't ready to purge that side of things yet. Just my thoughts. -
I think he actually sounds really polite and thinks through what he is saying. Arguable the best in the league right now.

Who is going to play WLB for this defense?
Billzgobowlin replied to Brianmoorman4jesus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you. The problem is they gave Rex Ryan the keys to the hen house and overspent on things didn't really benefit. Clay was an overreaction. We should have made the Dolphins overpay for Clay then dump him in their laps. -
Some solid prospects still available

We have a long time to wait but I could see a Tight End in round 5. Would love to pick Chad Kelly in 6th. -

We need Safety and we need LB. Doubt we will find a starter in the lower draft rounds. I like Poyer but I don't think we have a true box Safety. In June we will have some money open up so we will probably go shopping. -
Cardale wouldn't last. He really can't throw the ball. The only thing he has over Kelly is he stays healthy.

Browns release TE Gary Barnidge

I think O'Leary with the right coaching will be a solid player. He is solid in route running and catching just not very fast. -
Video proof GM Doug in charge of answering phones

Maybe but I feel that Nix was part of the influence of trading down there. When Whaley drafts he can't resist trading up at least once a draft. I fully would have expected Whaley to draft Lattimore. -

Doug's MO is to trade up. He likes losing picks to get better players. I don't know who made this decision but I don't believe it was Whaley. -
Cam Robinson Still Available.

I would not trade up for him to waste a pick but if he is there when we pick I would love for the Bills to pick him -
Browns release TE Gary Barnidge

Touche. Also in all fairness we are talking about the talentless Browns too. I would have thought he didn't need to be cut though and would have been a valuable piece. -

That's crazy. I think Barnidge was their best player on offense last year.
