Might not have just been Dallas Buffalo was worried about. Baltimore could use a CB and Beane might have deemed that 4th rounder less valuable than ensuring he got Elam.

I mean... I wasn't remotely expecting Elam to be the pick, but I know ***** about college football. This just proves to me all my podcasting pre-draft was pretty meaningless. I think this is one of those typical Beane "traits" guys. Seems like a guy who has all the physical tools in the world but just needs some refining. Well hey... everyone hating the pick might just consider we just drafted a 4th piece of our secondary--a physical specimen who you can't even say is raw, just needs some tweaking--who is playing with 3 veteran all pro secondary players and is being coached by 2 former DBs in Sean McDermott and Leslie Frazier. I think this makes sense.

This is a weird draft. I'm almost more excited about the players we're going to draft in rounds 2 and 3 (and even 4) than I am about round 1. I'm more nervous about who we'll draft in round 1 than anything.

Fair enough. I just don't think you see teams let go of Elite QBs unless there are serious medical issues (Peyton Manning), character/legal issues (Deshaun Watson), long-lasting conflicts in terms of QB & organization (Wilson & Brady), or age (Brady & Manning). Now, by the time Allen's current contract extension runs out he'll be 32. We certainly can't discount the possibility of injury with the way he plays, but I don't think that's as likely as others might think because of his natural physical build and the fact that I think we're going to start moving away from all the designed runs. He won't be too old at 32, so that won't be a question. Josh Allen's character is impeccable, so I can't see character or legal issues ever coming into play. I know your reasoning earlier was all about "bright lights." I just don't think it's a viable reason. He's getting all the national attention he could ask for already in Buffalo. And it's not like these guys don't travel or do commercials in the offseason. I can't say that reason is completely impossible because anything's possible, but I'd say it'd be 1% or less that he wants to go play in a bigger market because Buffalo is too small. That's actually rarely happened in NFL history, anyway. QBs make their teams bigger market teams that are more nationally viable... see Brady, Mahomes, Burrow, Rodgers, Wilson (who didn't leave Seattle because it's a small market isolated in the upper northwest), etc. Allen has already done the same for Buffalo over the last 2 years. That leaves organizational friction as the most reasonable possibility. But even there, as long as we have a healthyJosh Allen at QB, I would think we will be a playoff contender every single year and a Super Bowl contender most years. That kind of success maintains organizational consistency in terms of the "big 3" in the coach, GM, and QB. Again, I can't see that type of situation driving him out. For me this is a conversation we should come back to in a year or 2, whether we draft Hall or not. Beane hasn't been very adept drafting RBs. Singletary is a nice player. Moss kinda sucks. I understand everyone's argument that that you can find really good RBs in the later rounds. The problem is, Beane hasn't struck gold on any of those, yet. So to me, if Beane believes Hall will be a true #1 RB who can be a difference maker in the way Singletary hasn't been, draft him and see if fans complain in a year or 2 if he becomes one of the 5-10 best RBs in the NFL. Of course, if Hall is a disappointment, it's clearly a horrible pick. But any 1st round pick that busts is a disappointment. I prefer Hall in the 2nd. If we can trade back from our 1st pick or trade up from our 2nd pick to get him, that would be ideal. But I do think that a 1st round talent at the RB position could make a huge difference in our offense that pushes us over the edge immediately... especially considering that RBs are typically successful immediately.

If Josh plays the way we all expect and stays injury free, he'll retire a Buffalo Bill. It amazes me that you think we'd let him walk after this contract. Are you thinking he's going to be unhappy and will want brighter lights of a bigger city? Do you not pay attention to who Josh Allen is? it moved it moved again

Zion Johnson (or any IOL) in the 1st. I realize we need another Guard, but I really don't want to see one in the 1st.

Gunner... thanks for the work you put in here. I want to ask about a few prospects... if you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts: Treylon Burks gets a first round grade from you. It sounds like a wide array of opinions out there on him and he really seems like he fell in the draft process because of testing numbers. I assume your 1st round grade on him is based purely on his tape. Do you have concerns about him? What are they? How would he fit in with the Bills? Chad Muma gets a 2nd round grade from you. He's a guy I know Joe Marina raves about. Do you think he would be a player to step in for Tremaine in 2023 if we were to draft him in the 2nd or 3rd (you think we could get him in the 3rd?)? If we did that, what would we get from Muma that would be better than Edmunds and what would the step down be? What are your thoughts on Dylan Parham? Do you think he'd be a good fit with Buffalo and when do you think we'd have to draft him? Cam Taylor-Britt seems to be universally loved by at least all the gurus I listen to, yet he's considered a 3rd round prospect. What's the deal with that paradox? How do you feel about him? How would you feel if we didn't address the CB in round 1 and drafted him in round 2? He seems like a riser, to me. Or how would you feel about him in the 3rd round? Why is he a 3rd round prospect rather than a 2nd rounder? Finally, I see that you rank prospects broadly, but how would your top 5 CBs and WRs look if we asked you to rank them in terms of how they'd fit with Buffalo?

Gunner I'm probably going to bombard you with questions in the next couple days leading up to the draft. I don't hide the fact that I really don't watch ANY college football, but I'll say that I feel a bit more educated about this year's draft than any other year. I've been spending a lot of my time as I wash dishes or do work around the house or get ready in the morning or driving to work listening to podcasts from the likes of Joe Marino, Dane Brugler, Daniel Jeremiah/Bucky Brooks, Bruce Nolan, etc. Everyone seems to share the concerns about arm length for McDuffie. Yet, everyone also seems to believe he's one of the top 20 players in this draft with a true 1st round grade. So... let me ask you this since you watch these prospects: Is McDuffie's film truly just that good? Is the only real concern about him his arm length? That's an honest question and I'm genuinely curious about your answer. My feelings are that if his game tape is truly just that good and for everything else he tested well (isn't 4.44 fast enough for a CB?) and the only concern is his arm length... aren't the chances pretty decent he'll be a good starting CB if he can make up for those few inches in arm length if he has more fluid hips and better instincts and can be right in the hip pocket of the guy he's covering at all times?

Sorry this is a slow time of year as we wait for the draft. I watched this little clip from Allen. Let's all remember that Josh Allen is now an absolute celebrity. He's facing off against Tom Brady in The Match in June with Patrick Mahomes for God's sake.
